2015 US Nationals Senior Ladies FS Jan 24

Ashley comes across as so arrogant. Not my favorite.

Really? Your first post in the forum since joining a year ago, and it's to put down Wagner? Well, that's your opinion, of course. I think she has a lot of critics and her reactions are honest and a way of silencing her critics. It's certainly more refreshing than a rehearsed, typical answer of "Oh, I just tried my best and believed in myself, and this title makes me happy."

I'm so pleased for Ashley! As far as I could see, she made the rotation on both 3-3s. The "lutz" edge is more suspect and I imagine an international technical panel wouldn't be so forgiving. But that's easily fixed- just go for 2 3Fs instead of 2 3Lzs and she can take the ! on the Lz. This is by far the best she's skated in her 3 titles. I think her score was probably about 8-9 points too high, but she'd probably be around 140 if she duplicated this skate in front of an international panel. Worlds just got a whole lot more interesting.

Gracie was also very good. I think this is the best FS I've seen her do this season. I still don't like Phantom for her, or the lyrics, but her elements were strong and she fought hard to land 6 clean triples. She is a very deserving silver medalist. Again, her score is 8-10 points too high. Hopefully she can skate well at Worlds too.

I thought Karen Chen was great. She is so sure of herself for someone so young. I think she got the benefit of the doubt on her 3Z-3T (the 3T looked < to me) and she lacks maturity, but the rest of her jumps, her speed, and her spins were admirable.

Polina will get the 3rd spot for Worlds. She also did one of her better FSes this season. I thought her 3Z-3T was > and she was on the wrong edge on the 3F. She was solid elsewhere other than the 2nd 3Lz.

Overall a great competition. Congrats to all the ladies!

Chen was called UR on the 3T actually. But I agree with everything you said!!!

More tape delay comments: Great job Tyler Pierce! She looked a lot better today then when I saw that same program at sectionals a few months ago.

Though Mariah finished one spot above her, I hope Tyler gets sent. I think she could use the junior worlds experience.

"Listen to your muscles, listen to your movement. BOOM BOOM"
"I'm terrified." :laugh2:

Uploaded Ashley's free skate, no gab from Tara / Johnny:

Thank you. This one's much better quality. :)

Regarding the calls: Include me among those who say the rotation looked good on all the jumps--it's just the lutz edge that probably deserved !. It's not a big deal to go for two flips though. She'll lose a bit of BV, maybe lose to Elena and Liza if they're perfect, but she's likely to beat everyone else if she skates like this.

I really dislike the age cut off. Karen would make an impression for the U.S. at worlds. showing we have up and comers with triples to match the young russians.
sorry to say, Polina is just too boring and meh. She will not make any impression at worlds. we should be able to send Karen.

Uh but Polina landed a clean 3Z+3T (Karen's UR on her 3T), and 3F+3S. Karen will be fine at Junior Worlds first.

She will have plenty of competition at Jr. Worlds with the Russian trio (Serafima, Evegenia and probably Maria) and the Japanese gals (Wakaba Higuchi, who is only 14, and also won bronze at senior level at Japanese Nationals). If she does well there, she will make a positive impression.

Watching it late on dvr, so happy for Ashley! I'm sure this was answered before, but it will take me forever to go through this thread, is Mariah Bell eligible for jr worlds? I really enjoy her skating.

*edit* I also really enjoy Tyler, I wish we had 3 spots, and Karen, Mariah, and Tyler could all go.

Just got back home. OH MY GOD. My heart just stopped for a moment when I saw Ashley's score. I am super HAPPY!!!!!!!!!!!:party2::points::jaw:

I am hoping Mirai gets thrown the 4CC bone again. Or at least gets a Grand Prix assignment.

I like Gracie but dislike the plastic packaging Frank has been trying to cram her into. She needs more jazz and less princess. Maybe James Bond.

I'd be willing to wager Karen Chen will get 4CCC because she can't go to worlds.

Just watched Wagner's FS, consider me very impressed. I really like this program for her, it works all around.

I just got through my DVR up to Gracie. I love love love both Gracie and Ashley. Tara said something about Gracie's performance not being as electric. I really think that was the music choice. And it's odd, because I remember people complaining about the Moulin Rouge score for Ashley. I always thought it drew people in more.

Still am reminded of Tonya Harding when I see Ashley, and not in the knee way. She has that same fire in her eye and go-get-em attitude that I loved about Tonya. Very happy for her. Though I love Gracie too. I think they're both still contenders for a world medal. Yay. (Especially if Ashley can repeat that performance.)
