2015-2016 Programs by Discipline

www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ZK8vYnwVGM Here's an example from SCD of Never Tear Us Apart being used for a Viennese Waltz. I wonder which version they'll be using, as there have been so many good covers as well as the original. Plus what on earth are they going to have as the other rhythm? I love the idea of using modern songs for the waltz but as they can't use it throughout the program it's going to be hard to make a coherent program. The skaters who are picking a waltz from a ballet usually have a march or polka from the same work to use so at least their different pieces will relate to each other.

Something will come to them like how B/S are using Masquerade Waltz and a March from Romeo and Juliet. They'll find something. Isn't this pattern no more than 40 seconds?

Well lets hear it for at least two teams willing to go outside the box. Now I'm curious about the rest of the skaters in their team, P/C, H/D, Hurtado/Diaz, P/I, who else am I forgetting, hmmm. This is gonna be so cool.

my gut telling me that for Papadakis/Cizeron they'll go for something modern in SD (even something experimental in terms of rhythms mixing) and a total warhorse for FD...:|

but regardless - I hope too that teams like Hurtado/Diaz, Paul/Islam, Hubbell/Donohue will go modern for SD

What better team to completely mess with the judges this season? Love it :yay: As for the warhorse FD for P/C, I don't know, they've never done warhorse have they? I expect them to do something interesting for both programs.

I've only just realized that Shoma Uno and Max Aaron both are going to skate to Nessun Dorma. For all the annoyance with warhorses, don't tell me it's not going to be exciting to contrast and compare. :cheer:

Augh. Just... augh. I look forward to Aaron's POTO program the following season. :sarcasm: That's so frustrating - Aaron should be trying to differentiate himself, not conform. Stuff like Tron went over well because it engaged the audience. It sucks that he's spending (presumably) the tail of his career pandering to the judges with warhorses.

Also disappointed that Uno is doing it too - I feel he could be a Dai in the making and it's unfortunate to see him pick a warhorse.

Jeremy will be portraying all the anger and rage of that song in which case he is putting on the persona of a black man's issues and then when he takes off his skates he gets to walk out of the arena with all the privilege of being a white male.

THIS. So much. What the heck was he thinking? There's experimental and then there's this ridiculousness. I'm sorry Jeremy, but you've lost points with me and possibly your marbles to go with it.

Wakaba Higuchi's new SP http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2uusfu_樋口新葉-2015-2016-新sp-doi-2015_sport I think her plan is to put all jumps in the second half.

This is probably my fave of the Japanese girls I've seen so far. She skates with such effortlessness, particularly in her transitions. Excellent basics, and great speed too (could be a bit more flexible but that's not a huge issue). Interesting that it's the music Osmond found success with... but you don't see too many Japanese girls doing Mambo style programs. :) She definitely seems like a future force to be reckoned with.

Here's what's going on:

Upon further research, I think they're calling Jeremy's program a "Wolf on Wall Street" program, for the Leonardo Di Caprio film that uses "Black Skinhead" in the trailer/film. (Jeremy used the hashtag #ProjectWolf to discuss the upcoming program on twitter).

At best this changes the lens from which HE views this program--he sees it as a program based on a movie which uses this song, which is why he uses this song--rather than a "pure" expression of the music and lyrics of the song. Does it change the unfortunate racist implications? No, but at least it reveals his best intentions.

ETA: Video link to the program I found on twitter https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-lejY8ZvNmg&feature=youtu.be for anyone who is interested.

In regards to Kanye and Jeremy...I can't think of a single reason after seeing Jeremy's performance for anyone to draw offense from it. It looks like Jeremy is just borrowing a concept from a movie that Kanye already agreed to associate himself with anyway and I'm sure he was compensated better than I'm sure most skaters make in an entire season.

As someone who took part in the original discussion and hunted down the program video and concept, I completely agree. It boggles my mind that a song about being black in America would be used for Wolf on Wall Street, but Jeremy's program is obviously based on the film rather than the lyrics/concept of the original song.

I got the Wolf of Wall Street reference. But that song is about racism, and from a skating standpoint it does nothing to showcase Abbott's talents other than a different side of him I guess (not one that I particularly enjoy).

I totally agree. But get ready to duck the tomatoes. Tried to say something like that earlier in the thread. Max is a unique skater and contrary to popular opinion I DO like him. I just feel like his music choices haven't been true to himself. He's a dynamic skater and skating to classical music just doesn't get it for me.

Apparently Jenny and Dave on TSL know what Gracie's LP music is...Dave mentioned it could be a bit feisty, but he associates the music with Evan Lysacek and Jenny also commented "Miki Ando." I'm not a mental catalog of past programs...any idea what it could be?

Firebird?

But how much more true to himself can it get if he is the one who is in love with the music and choosing it?

It's just a little frustrating to have to constantly point this out. Phillip Mills didn't go to Max and say, "You're doing Nessun Dorma and Black Swan and there's nothing you can do about it".

Briefly looking through Miki and Evan's program lists on Wikipedia I see that both have skated to Carmen, Scheherazade, The Firebird, Espana Cani, and Samson et Delilah. I used to associate The Firebird with Miki Ando so that's my guess but that's all it is, a guess.
