2015-2016 Programs by Discipline

Thanks a lot, Cherryy. She is not quite as thin anymore, but her posture still isn't good and she is still too slow on the ice. Spins looked slowish too. Overall this program feels a bit too lethargic and, yes, boring, to me. I hope that will change.

Edit: Sorry for two posts in a row. Should have responded to dorispulaski and Cherryy in one post (usually I do so).

The posture does need some work. She reminds me of Jeremy Abbott and Kostner in her early days. They all had this hunched over thing going on while being quite elegant otherwise. I wonder if it's something that happens more often with long limbed skaters. I hope her team will address it and help her fix it. I disagree she was slow though - thought she was covering the ice quite well and quite efficient in her skating. I really liked the sweeping patterns she was creating on the ice with her edges. I think the program has great potential.

I think so. It's like with tall people who think are too tall. I don't know if you have noticed but many of them tend to close their shoulders.

Her posture needs to improve. As for slow she covered quite a lot of ice and it's still early. I like this program.

Maybe I get this impression because the program itself is so slow moving and the boards don't seem to slide by as fast as when other high level skaters skate .

Interesting, because the thought of her SS being significantly improved stayed in my mind throughout the performance: she has nice edges and a lot more control in her basic skating I think, which actually gave me the impression of producing nice speed, too.
The moment right before the CCoSp with the twizzles going perfectly with the music is just everything

I don't think it's because it's slow that makes me not fully sold on it, i agree with others that she's executing her edges quite nicely. I think it's the fact that it's obvious (ETA: to me and some others) she's DOING the choreography, rather than PERFORMING the choreography.

As I said in her thread, it seems she's focused on executing the movements. Everything is textbook, but it lacks (for me) that emotional oomph that kind of program should provoke. But I think it's well-choreographed and it seems she got the technical goods, so my hope is that the movements will become more natural as the season goes on.

Agree with Mrs P. but will add that it has more of a forced feel than a natural appeal to it IMO. Of course this can be worked out in time and as the season unfolds but I must admit that I'm one of the "it looked slow" folks. :drama:

I was raving over her programs during this event last year and I'd say she wound up taking mostly heavy criticism about her programs as the season unfolded. So of course now when I'm not moved everyone else is.

I agree that it currently lacks the emotional oomph, and I think logically that's an aspect that will improve as Polina gets more used to the program. Overall, I like the program, it has a lot of potential, and it showcases her as lady. I can't wait to see GWTW, though I assume that it might similarly be lacking in emotional depth at this point in the season.

Super impressed at how well she landed everything and executed her content for it being this early on. (Experts: how did her flip edge look, if it's possible to tell from so far away?) I hope she keeps that consistency up in the LP.

^ agreed, the lack of emotional oomph is probably due to she is not quick familiar with this program yet. .

I don't think this program will ever have an emotional oomph. Although that would be nice to see. I'm not sure I've ever seen Polina emotionally invested in a program yet.

I think it would be interesting to compare this program from Glacier Falls with Jason Brown's FS from Broadmoor Open. Both have similar goals in their respective programs = Show line, display strong skating skills.

I would say (with the caveat that I am a fan of Jason's obviously) that Jason shows more emotional investment in his program while Polina is more textbook in her edges/technical content. I think if you would combine the two you would have one heck of a program.

I think the ending pose this time already had enough emotional impact, I can imagine why some audience get so excited, although I am not there. Also, there are many highlights in this program already. Just needs more time to get under her belt.
EDIT: the later half, if she can show more strength/punctuation/indication similar to her ending pose in the future performances, then she will definitely get the emotional impact.

Those jumps so close to the boards :hopelessness:. Didn't they learn from last season??

Love the costume. Sure it's a little too glittery in the front but I love the sexy open back with the long, asymmetrical skirt.

I like the program choreographically, and it seems like Gracie was halfway there on selling it. Decent effort for a summer competition. But seriously, something needs to be done about where her jumps are done in the rink.

I actually like Polina's program more than Gracie's. Her upper body is much more controlled. Hopefully both ladies will grow into these programs through the season and deliver the emotional aspect as well.
