2015-2016 Programs by Discipline

I love the costumes but not the dance . But I appreciate they always try to be original.

As a matter of historical interest, "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" appeared in the 1967 Beatles studio album "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" (see Wikipedia link.) From the album cover, I think that it's Ringo Starr in Pink (Piper) and Paul McCartney in Blue (Paul P.) The older members of the audience might find that the costumes and music bring back some fond memories.

Ditto. Those cosumes are awesome but the dance needs to be more kick *** to live up to that eye-searing craziness.

I agree with this. I'm all for "craziness" but this program is lacking in that. It's more like wannabe crazy and going half way.

Piper and Paul's SD... honestly is exactly what I expected... well... maybe I didn't quite expect exactly those costumes, but I expected something weird that screams "I am trying too hard to be original". Anyway, I think their SD could mostly work, but the Beatles at the beginning and end mixed in with the other music just doesn't work for me. It doesn't flow. Their ending pose with the peace signs also needs to go. They are trying to be fun, but just end up looking dorky. The costumes are eyesores, basically too distracting. There are many instances where Less is More, this would be one of those.

My feeling is that this season we might see a number of "I am trying too hard to be original" SDs. I hope I am wrong. I don't understand why teams are afraid to be too "waltzy", their assignment is the waltz. It is like saying I don't want my Paso Doble to be too Paso, I don't want my hip-hop to be too hip-hop... ???? Anyway, I am all for a more modern take to a classical theme, but I still think you can't just forcefully try to fit an old fashioned dance into a modern theme/music and vice versa. It still needs to make some kind of sense. The choreo can be more modern but not modern dance and the music can be more modern but not rock and roll.

Anyway, just my thoughts...

I think their SD can work if their costumes reflect the dance style and - maybe changing a little bit their interpretation/presentation of their dance's concept - executing the peace sign at the end appears a bit incongruous. As it is, it's like a comedy of errors - military costumes, waltz, somewhat dorky expressions, and the Beattles' hip activism mixed in. But the dance reflects their style - trying hard to be original and different.

I enjoyed the dance but as a SD? Well, it needs work.

I understand, but I think the "original" is coming from possibly due to there are assumptions of teams choosing the same waltz and thus us getting headaches from getting another warhorse being thrown into the long list of warhorses that drive us crazy.

Plus it's good to be original and have the judges be surprised in good ways. Like if you watch with no judgement due to the fact that a song might be rock for example, you might be surprised.

Her heart going on and what-not? Oh... dear... sigh...

 I remember the summer when that song was first out, it was hot and it seemed to be blaring from every car and house window. One soon got sick of it. In fact, I recall that there was a story in the papers where a woman took her neighbour to court for a Noise Prevention Order because she was playing the song over and over again non-stop. A music expert was called to give evidence and he stated that the simple structure and repetitive notes of the song were such that heard over and over again it would be akin to torture! :laugh2:

LOL. Well if there is anyone who can pull it off, it would be her.

Omg. Radianova skating to the queen of cheesy love songs La Celine Dion? Christ. This will be hilarious overemoting at its finest.

This story has made my month. Thank you, TheGrandSophy.

I'm really afraid to find out what he chose for Anna now. :slink:

Have mercy. I have a dream that one day,one day soon, someone will go into his little CD collection, and just burn them all to ashes. I mean why do we have to be subjected to this, why?

Well he only picked her short program music......her coach came to him with Titanic or she was the one who chose it off his CD collection  Nobody made her do it :p I'm pretty happy with these choices.
