V/M got the ideal starting order. Last of the heavy hitters, but not the final couple so it would be immense pressure + long wait after ice resurfacing warmup.

WTh Shawn Rettstat is the tech controller in Canada the anti Virtue and Moir the americans must be really shaking in their boots.
SC is deeper at the top. With two World champions and a World silver medal team. Then three more teams that have finished top ten in the past, one of whom has qualified for a GPF. As far as the hip hop debuts that I have seen from teams planning to compete at SC, I think they have potential. Stepanova & Bukin's program was my favorite debut of the four, and I really enjoyed Hawayek & Baker's debut as well. I think these two programs struck me as successful because both teams are young and attempting to break through, and both programs highlighted their own improvement and the more fun, youthful side of the team members. I appreciate that C&B and V&M are stepping outside their usual comfort zones to try the hip hop, but I have different expectations for these teams and I felt that both debuts could have been stronger. Likely they will be here.
SA was also deep, much deeper than last season (when there were only two top-ten teams attending). Two world champion medal teams and three more top ten teams this season (two of whom have qualified for the GPF). I loved the Shibs SD the most of all the hip hop programs I have seen this season. And Min & Gamelin's SD is clearly their strength this season, though I believe mainly due to the blues. They have been more successful with it than their free throughout the preseason, and they've competed at least four times so there really is a pattern there. I don't care for Tobias & Tkachenko's SD (I really liked their waltz last season, and this is not winning me over). I like Hubbell & Donahue's blues & I think the hip hop choreo has potential, but I can't forgive the program for the multitude of music cuts. I think if they settled on one hip hop piece, they would be more competitive this season.
All the dance events are deep this season. In part because the field itself has expanded internationally and is deeper than it has ever been. In part because ten teams are now invited to each event. But mostly because we also have a non-seeded Olympic gold medal team, a non-seeded World medal team, and a non-seeded GPF qualifying team in the mix this season. Five of the six events will have one of those teams entered along with the typical top-seeded teams. And both Virtue & Moir and Bobrova & Soloviev can be expected to finish top ten this season.

Please explain. Is this "good" or "bad" for the Canadian or American teams? I am not familiar with this person.
Shawn Rettstat is considered bad news for Virtue and Moir. And I guess a USA tech controller is good news for the US teams, at least that's the theory.
Well, a tough tech controller for V&M, a tough starting order for C&B, a tough away-field turf for C&L, and a lack of World-medal credentials for G&P and S&B.
Everyone has their challenges.
Thank you Mrs. P. Here's another question for you. Has there ever been a discussion of ice dancing on this board that doesn't involve a conspiracy theory among the ubers?:dev2:

The TS is from UKR and the ATS from POL, so they could stick together and thwart the TC.

ATS = Assistant Technical Specialist Ms. Sylwia NOWAK-TREBACKA (Poland)
Didn't know Nowak-Trębacka can be ATS.... can you do that and coach an active ID team?
But isn't it the tech specialist who calls elements and levels? My understanding is the Controller can propose corrections if he/she believes the caller has made an error. If they disagree, then the assistant tech specialist weighs in and it's majority rules. Is this incorrect?
Yeah that seems to be correct: http://www.isu.org/en/synchronized-skating/isu-judging-system/introduction
I have no opinion one way or another, just trying to explain why some folks are groaning at Mr. Restatt's presence.
