2016 Skate Canada Ladies FP

Really hate this program and music and voices and phone ring, but Zhenia is so precious and has a heart of steel. Domination again this season!

I enjoyed her SP, didn't mind the miming in it — except for when she had the obvious rest stop at the halfway mark where she stood and posed for the judges. But when she brought it out again here it started to seem overdone and needlessly manipulative. She is plenty expressive enough in her skating that the mugging is unnecessary. She does it in every single program so it feels like a bore, rather than something special. Hated the phone ring and the voiceover. It honestly made me cringe and took me out of the program, wondering how survivors and loved ones would feel having to listen to that in a skating program.

I understand why she does all the jumps with the tano arms, but they really need to do something in the rules to limit it. It's too much of a good thing and becomes utterly meaningless as a result.

I agree with the placements but maybe not the scores. Kaetlyn was overscored to me but I'd still have her second. Satoko's problem was the short. She needs to get those jumps around and she'll be right up there at worlds.

Well she is short but she has to figure out how to use it to her advantage and really if anything she should have better more powerful jumps and spring (smaller body area per muscle mass should favour her on the other hand artisitcally it is sometimes to create nice line - though on the other hand she could have been like Osmond's coach Ravi Walia - I saw on youtube and the guy look horribly awkward - not elegant lines at all because he was thin and tall looking.

A couple of tumbles
she's more secure and her execution far better than any of the others

well deserved victory and scores.

shes obviously going to win, but her program was bad imo

It's clearly a risky subject to take on, and not to everyone's taste, but the level of negativity that I'm hearing here is surprizing. I found much of it very lovely.

She's got many great elements, delivered a 7 triple program with many of those in the second half, and is consistently laying down markers that other women need to beat. While she didn't take the same kind of risk in of major new elements or transitions into them, there is so much content...

So, in sum, while I could look for less tanoing, a nicer step sequence, and the story of the program is likely to wear thin as the season wears on, I can really appreciate the greatness in this program too...

Remember what Tara actually said last year at WC: ''she was born to land 3-3''...
She is a gorgeous skater... the very best in the world.

I am not going to lie by saying that I wasnt a fan of Medvedeva last season. However, her previous and current programs are one of the same. I just cant get behind the contrived over-emoting, miming, and overscoring. Yes, she deserved to win gold but not with that score of 144+.

As a Canadian I felt like Kaetlyn was a little over scored. She is a really wild skater; you don't know if the jump will be landed until it is landed because sometimes she has a weird tilt/angle in the air. That being said, she has the biggest presence on ice.

...and the biggest jumps. It does help!

And Liza is the only skater to get no !, e, or <. I call that a victory! :agree:

I think Mirai was hit the hardest.

its hard because then you have to cut down on the spread eagles, ina bauers and such into and out of jumps and the list goes on. blame this on COP folks for every step forward sometie there are a few back.

Med had some mistakes, but still got the gold. Good!
BTW, Osmond is great :) Wish her luck this season! She deserves it with all her prior ilnesses and even the desire to stop skating...

Looking at the protocols...
Kaetlyn was not overscored technically. She got a ! on the Lutz and a carrot on the loop.
I'd argue her PCS scores are reflective of what she put out there today.

Evgenia

Panel start to think . They called ! for her flutz. And even judges noticed it.Amazing Maybe on euro they will have guts
