it is very difficult to rest right after such a performance. I hope Patrick had a good night of sleep and has a short practice session just to prepare for saturday. If he reaches the same mental state, the Journey could really be even better than at nationals.
I liked his interview with helskinki 2017... he said "I already have won medals... i am only going for my personal best" that's exactly the right set up and mind set. I think his work with a sports psy is starting to pay off.
No matter what happens next, Patrick has entered a new world.
BTW : this was the first ever ISU competition with 3 men breaking the 100 mark in the SP. So Patrick with Shoma and Javi will remain forever in the history book for that spectacular event.
I am going to bed... planning to wake up for dance in 4 hours.

You can tell Charlie is an elite skater himself because he phrases his questions REALLY well. He asks questions that skaters would have good answers to. He asks positive questions and gets positive answers. You get the best answers if you ask the best questions. Having been asked these types of questions himself for years, Charlie knows how to ask them in a very polite way that allows for fleshed-out answers that are still not too long. And he's so nice about it!
On another topic, in the GS article, Patrick said, “I wasn’t going into it being like ‘Oh, I need to be first or third,’ I was just ‘Okay, I know what I need to do, I will get the marks that I deserve if I put everything on the table.' It was a great feeling to wait for those marks. Breaking 100 with one quad – that’s huge for me. To do it at a Worlds, it just shows that. Imagine if I did do a second quad where the points would be and where I would be in the standings. So, one step at a time. I couldn’t add a second quad without accomplishing this today. I wouldn’t have the confidence to.” So, a 2-quad SP next season seems like a real possibility now. If he does do that, I hope one season will be enough time for him to get comfortable with it before the Olympics. Mistakes in the Olympics SP = Way Down in the Standings. (I realize 2017 Worlds isn't over yet

This has nothing to do with Worlds, but I want to share it now anyway. My computer desktop background is the sunset picture Patrick sent us from Marseille. I chose it because it reminds me to always be positive. Patrick had a very rough LP and placement in Marseille, but then he told us, “It’s all part of the journey; nothing a hug can’t fix.” He thanked Marseille and said “on to the next.” So, as I remember Marseille through looking at this picture so often, I remember to always keep going in my own life. I also like it because Patrick is only one aspect of the picture. My eyes go first to the gorgeous sunset, which makes me smile even more than Patrick’s gorgeous pose. It’s a beautiful picture to look at several times a day. :yes:

Good article with such great remarks from Patrick! Even though... psst, I (and I think we all) already knew that he could do two quads in the SP a while ago. But I'm glad that he got the confirmation that he can really do it!
Now I'm going to need to look at all the news articles that came out last night and add them to my blog post!

That's wonderful that you have it on your desktop, and yes, it is so beautiful and calming. My hope is that tomorrow Patrick reverses what happened at GPF and goes on to skate a clean LP, thus achieving his goal of two clean skates at last!
Jackie Wong reported on the practices today here. It looks like Patrick might have been a little more tired, because he had a few step outs on his jumps. But hopefully he is resting well now. :agree:

^I agree. Everything seems to be about jumps these days. You're skating well if you're landing all the jumps, you're not if you're not landing them. It doesn't matter what you're doing between the jumps. I'm glad Patrick stuck to his guns and all the best in the FS. Let's hope the next 12 months bring him the results he's after.

I have a disagreement with Patrick on Style vs Substance. The Style skaters he mentioned, and himself, are really Style+Substance skaters, which is why they are the greatest. Only today with the scoring system, the biggest Substance skater can overwhelm even the Style+Substance skaters.
Patrick has the Style cornered and he is building on his substantial substance. I am looking forward to more magic he will bring us.
