ice is slippery... see my predictions had nathan 1st... he ends up behind patrick in 6th....
i was hoping Patrick would give us a similar LP as the one in Nationals... would that have been enough for a medal? probably very close (Patrick only tried 2 quads at naionals, tripling the second 4t.... but nailed everything else)
So here are the positive :
4t-3t wonderful
4s : wow!!!! it doesn't get better than that...
i don't believe that i can jinx Patrick (or anyone as a matter of fact) but I never liked the idea of a half loop combo... it has damaged him in the past... and it cost him about 9 points today... his 3A wasn't bad, but he had to put a hand down... and he did try to tag the rest but it was counted as a sequence and the 2s was invalidated.....
POSITIVE : after the mistake, Patrick goes for the 3rd quad... YES!!!! that's new guys!!! Even if he did touch his hands down, it's a huge improvement.
The rest of the program showed promise...as Patrick did recuperate and refocused.
Now... 94 in PCS... give me a break... I don't mind Yuzuru getting higher PCS than Patrick today... the guy laid it down brilliantly.... I was of a different opinion for the short program... BUT COME ON... 94??? for Patrick's programs?
If the ISU wants to keep a high level of skating, they have to show how important PCS are by giving the points to a guy like Patrick... I thought Patrick's program was still the most beautifully constructed and gorgeous tonight.... 2 jump mistakes... fair enough.. NO FALLS though... no pops.. no disruptive mistake... why 94? whatever they would have given him wouldn't have changed the ranking but would have made a statement....
I have been talking about the process for a while... Patrick is in the middle of it.... he is not done... i have no issues with these WC... and that's what was nice about Patrick's reaction afterwards : he said to Marina something like :" there is room to grow for next year"
Yes... there is... and that's the right attitude. we will see what he does now. But for sure, there will be two quads in the SP. I don't think he will change much the LP... I think he may even keep the journey...Patrick doesn't get satisfied until he performs something perfectly well...
I have no idea if he is going to wtt... i never know about that event... if he is, we may get another chance at seeing the new layout with the 3A combo.... I would like to be convinced that it's a great tool for him..
okay.. i am burned out... i think i will sleep all afternoon...
I hope you guys are not too disappointed.
The zone : I felt Patrick started well.. just like in the SP... but he psyched himself out with the new combo. His focus flickered just long enough for him to lose it... and he went on and off again... i think his last spin was quite slow compared to usually... like he was exhausted or something.
I have to say i am not surprised simply because what he has achieved with the SP is so positive and new for him that he probably had a hard time to keep focused. I am actually encouraged that he didn't do like at GPF or even 4CC.. this was so much better here in terms of focus.
I am going to have major patrick withdrawals this summer... omg...
