2017 Worlds Free Dance

I wonder if there was this much gripe about "fairness" when Yuna came back for her second gold in Sochi. Or do you only mean if skaters have completely retired? I personally think more props if you can retire for a few years and still be the class of the field.

I agree ^^ - and ask skylark why shouldn't top athletes go back into competition? Many in skating have, with varying success. Or is it V/M's immediate success that you actually object to? As for the skylark's comment about D/W retiring - :scratch2: perhaps, they're just realistic in knowing they would never beat V/M or P/C today, since ice dance has gone back to real dance, & the rules have changed a great deal.

They might as well hand out the medals now to V/M and P/C because nobody is beating them next season certainly not the Shibs who were vulnerable here and would have gotten beaten by the US #3 team if Zack doesn't fall. As it is W/P and even the Russian team were only about a point behind them.

If NYC landlords were true Marxists, I'd have a 3BR apartment. Rent and utility free. With a river view.

Just saying...

;)

HEEEEEHHEEE. I couldn't help but think of the classic moment in Whatever Happended to Baby Jane.[/I] "...but you are, Blanche. You are in that chair." You can wish for all the hypothethical scenarios, but reality will always come back to bite you in the a**.

I thought they were living together

Sigh. I was thinking this as well. There must be a Russian on the dance podium and also true about '14 Russian ladies.

Ok ... than I rest my case I just parroted back what someone else mentioned - "that they're not". I know that Fournier-Beaudry / Sorensen & Sinitsina / Katsalapov are couples.

If 6.0 ordinals were in place then P/C would be World Champions again.

if 6.0 ordinals were still in place

P/C were 13th in 2014.... would have been 10-11th at best in 2015.... their mozart having impressed the judges would have prepared top 8 for 2016 but would have sunk back to 10th upon return of v/m in 2017 and not getting their twizzles and bleeding in the sd :)

i am very good at that game too :) long live c.o.p.

I haven't kept up with their personal lives in several months so that situation could have definitely changed by now. I'm not sure. But they were together at one point

I am so disappointed/angry with the sound and the camerawork, How is such a mediocre job possible in Worlds!!? , there are memorable performances and we only got crappy video shots and low quality sound :curse:::gaah::furious::hpull::gaah:

I am P/C fan trash :drama:

I just love them so much. Watching them skate makes me weak in the knees, makes me feel things no one else in any discipline makes me feel. (Sui/Han might be the closest?) Kudos to V/M for their dominant, amazing shot dance, and on their free dance that I've enjoyed as well. But they don't make me feel things like P/C! Just get better at the SDs!

Team P/C!!!!

Just watched it all, what a crazy competition! The top 3 ended up being what everyone expected, but in a much different way than expected! The judges were ready to put both of the other American teams over the Shibutani's, but the American men both totally failed the twizzles! It seemed like they were trying too hard, to be honest. Overexcited.

Papadakis/Cizeron deservedly winning the Free Dance, by a pretty good margin too. So great to see. Next season with better programs they will definitely be the favorites for the Olympics. In this day and age, repeat Olympic champions are not going to happen unless they are superstars and blow the competition away. Virtue/Moir already have their Gold, ISU makes more money by having new champions crowned.

Bobroba/Soloviev 1 point out of medal contention, LOL. Russia will do anything to try and prop one of their teams up for an Olympic medal.

Paul Poirier is so great. Under different circumstances he is a World champion by now.

I get that dance is really 'competitive' today, and that makes it marginally interesting, but I miss the Grishuk/Platov era when teams actually had dramatically different free skates from one another. It was hard to watch Shibutanis, P&C and V&M one after another, and then closing the event with a medley of heinous adult contemporary cover songs by Hubbell and Donohue? No thanks.

...and it's become so polite and sanitary. Instead of everyone training with each other and smiling when they get beaten by rinkmates who fell, ice dancers used to be full-on divas that got into barfights and trashed each other in the media. Those were the days.

Can I second that? At least the first oart about variety, not the barfights. Geez, I was sitting there at the arena and in the middle of V/M program I was thinking about how boring it is to watch practically the same program for the 3rd time. Basically, I only enjoyed Shibs, because they were first with their slow-serious-piano-music program.

Nah, this just showed how important it is to get those L4s. They need to focus on execution and come back with some amazing material. This season was lost because of the SD, not because of Judges and politics.

dude have you seen the scoresheet for V/M fd?

Don't think so. Don't really know. But still.. Poje vs Morozov. Even platonic friendship with Poje would be better than getting horizontal with Morozov.

They didn't make announcement, but they let to intend they are a real, especially in interviews on Xmas period.

I am not sure Morozov has captured who they are or rather been able to define who they are and I am not sure he is an ice dance coach anyways plus, which is wrong to worry about, I am worried he may want to snare Kaitlyn. His track record isn't great and that type of drama is not required. They showed some practices I hate the way he eyes her like some kind of prey. It looks like he is eying her more than for her technique.

I would think that too, but fortunately for her, Kaitlyn is too old for Morozov. Besides, he's a newly married man and his divorce isn't due to another 2-3 years, when Davankova eventually goes beyond her expiry date and he ditches her for another 20-year old. The saddest part is that there isn't an ounce of sarcarm in this post. :(

Did we ever get a full translation of what C/L's coach said on TV about their scores. I need some drama from the actual players. Anyone know?

She was very displeased with judges, lowing scores of better couples in favour of others, which should not have been on the last group of merit ( H/D). And rewarding couples who dance similar FDs to each other ( meaning P/C, V/M, H/D again) apparently she despised Shibs too, but she made no Names, actually, so I'm not sure she was criticising them too, also because she used to collaborate with Marina. And of course she made an allusion to Russians and what happened at Eeuros.

i think pcs were lowered by some judges indeed... and a few judges lowered goe on the steps too...

Curious as to what the scale of values for people are in ID? I'd expect a stumble like Scott had to reduce SS by at least .5 if not a whole point. The Ukranian judge still scored their SS a perfect ten. With a stumble? That seems rather lenient to me. Weird discipline that has weirder judging.

She got real then  We need a lot more of this!!

I thought she was quite vocal and didn't sugar coat it, which I find refreshing. Apart from being disappointed C&L didn't get the PCS (she thought) they deserved, she wasn't too keen that the last group all skated to the same program (well, except C&B). She reminded the viewers that when a team skates to slow music, executing most elements is easier as opposed to her team who were blazingly fast. After H&D's mishap she said that they didn't belong to the last group and that the only team who can pull off P&C's style are P&C. The other teams should skate with more personality (which I agree with). She conveniently forgot that her own skaters have been skating to the same "happy go lucky" program for years, with comparable music and the same rotational lift in splits, but well... :rolleye:
