Patrick Chan

I think it's very likely that Patrick ends up at NHK. Javier will almost certainly be at TDF and since they are seeded together that won't work. Also Patrick won TDF in 2013 with amazing skates just before Sochi and I would hate to think of history repeating itself... Since we all know what happend just a few months later.

I think Javi will be in Russia, it will be his 7th appearance at the Rostelecom Cup.....because he has a Russian wife according to madame Tarasova
I don't now why I'm talking about it in Patrick's topic.......maybe it's spring.

I'm re-posting this because I accidentally deleted it. :o:
-Patrick skates his best when he listens to his breathing and actually feels the blood going through his vessels.
Why does it sound so sexy?) And someone said that he's not flirting with the audience.....he doesn't need to, it just turns out naturally) Well, maybe I'm hopeless ;)

OMG... you just made my day, my week, my month, my life!!!!! I loved the fluff piece and i had looked around to find the whole story.... Patrick is just so kind ... he doesn't even need to act here... just being himself and he exudes care and compassion for buckaboo

OMG...

Is a man sexiest when he flirts with you? No, it's when he's caught being himself and when he's engrossed in something with keen focus, be it serious or fun, paying full attention to something - a task, an enjoyment, a performance, or you. (Flirting is somewhat self focused with intention to get reaction and attention rather than a complete focus on another person.) An example and proof as cited by 4everchan:

i mean, to go heads over heel about Patrick telling a bed time story... yeah... Patrick is the sexiest man alive and he doesn't even know it ;) what's not to love..

I feel sorry for our friends who can't see the video but I am in no way tech savvy enough to help... maybe someone can put it on her website ? :) hehe

i watched it on the cbc site but it's also on youtube... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cjOIcmo8mHs

is this also geoblocked?
It works for me with a VPN. I'd love to share it with everyone here, but each time I tried to download the video from YouTube while the VPN was turned on, there was no sound (the sound being the whole point of it ). Sigh. :ohwell: I'm sorry a lot of you can't watch it - it's amazing. :(

NEWS FLASH: I THINK THIS ACTUALLY HAS SOUND! Don't ask me how this happened, but please enjoy! :)

Today I stumbled upon this CBC fluff piece that aired right before Patrick’s Worlds SP. Vivley, it is definitely worth a transcript. A few fascinating things in it:

-Patrick says that he has to lose himself in his own personal world and “disconnect” from the audience and everything around him to get the job done. He loses himself in how he interprets the music and how the music makes him feel. If he’s going to skate well, anything beyond the boards doesn’t exist or matter during the program. It’s adorable how he says “maybe the audience doesn’t want to know that.” I personally find that, when he skates his best, even though he thinks he is disconnected from us, I am still able to feel a lot of emotion from him; in other words, when he feels the most disconnected from us (he used that word, but I prefer focused inward), he actually connects with us (at least me) the most successfully.

-It’s so eye-opening to hear this from the master of the blade himself: “I feel my blades actually more [than hear them]. The sound is the aftermath of putting myself and feeling the blade in where exactly I need to be to get the optimum, whether it’s speed or edge quality. But for me, I can almost close my eyes and feel the blade, and the sound is the product of that.”

-Patrick skates his best when he listens to his breathing and actually feels the blood going through his vessels. He’s in a different world where he shuts out all the useless senses. He says it means you’re in flow and in another place.

I’m so grateful to be a fan of Patrick Chan and that he’s such an open skater!

thanks a lot skatingfan4ever for summarizing this piece!:thank::ghug:

lately, when I thought about Patrick's skating, I feel like he with few other skaters re-defined for me a term of 'perfect performance' in figure skating. With him, it's never about the cleanest skate which leads to this 'perfection' of performance, what's unique is that he somehow surpassed that border of 'clean' being considered as 'best'. This 'perfect performance' means that Patrick's ones gives me food for thought for long time after he finishes his skate on ice, his skate 'lingers' on my mind, resonating deeply on different levels.

There's indeed something to be said about Patrick's words on skating his best while shut down, reduced to his breathing, blood flowing inside, focusing on blades, music, blending all those 'outside' elements into his own world created, because it is a part of that 'perfection' in his performance. He actually CREATES a moment of uniqueness, fueled by him, his personal feelings, how he feels during skating, how he incorporates things from 'outside' to this own bubble and he's even not aware how impactful, powerful is the effect put on the ice, visible to the audience. And this 'powerfulness' of his skating/performance impact is not forceful, 'in-your-face' kind of one for me - it's more about quiet sum of little things, gestures, looks building into unity, about focus and thoughtfulness of Patrick giving himself all into performance to move people, maybe not straight away, but for a long time, like in my case.

And lately, I came to thought that Patrick's skating reminds me/resonates within me similarly to Gabriella Papadakis/Guillaume Cizeron's way of skating/performing (French Ice Dancers, 2-time World Champions, recent silver medalists) - it is not about feeling itself, with full force, but it is about SENSING, scratching the surface somewhere inside me with this 'artistic aesthetic', a desire for beauty, to create it using your body and space created by it. It's all about some impressions, different things moving me about his skating in different times. It's kind of 'transcendent experiencing' regarding understanding Patrick's skating for me, never just 'watch and finish' kind of thing.

thank you NNF :)

for me the difference between Patrick and the others is that the beauty in the program and the skating is felt rather than being fabricated. I don't want to belittle the French dancers who I like quite a lot. However, I feel that their approach is more plastic. A bit more in your face indeed, simply because they are two on the ice and need to work that into choreography... so I see moment of great beauty in their programs but they are prepared and almost predictable. When I watch Patrick, even if I know the programs by heart, there is beauty every second of the way. It's an artistic refinement that no other skater in my opinion can match and it leads to an experience of long lasting emotional reception. What you describe as
"his skate lingers on my mind"
is a very perfect way to word this. A true performance is one that one will remember forever. I am still shocked at TEB 2013 for instance... I still remember watching 4CC LP from last year... It was in the middle of the night... I had passed out while watching and woke up just in time for Patrick.... what a wake up call from the skating gods to allow me to witness this via online streaming as it happened !!!

I still remember what wine I was drinking LOL ;) I went to bed that night, face planted down on the pillow, legs and arms apart like a star facing down, and woke up the same way. ;)

Of course, everyone is different but I have never felt like this for any other skater which is what is so striking to me, and what makes me so connected to Patrick at an artistic level. It is only with Patrick that I forget that figure skating is indeed a sport.

back at You, 4everchan :)

the similarity expressed between Patrick and Frech is of course my subjective one and only in terms of resonance of skating, this 'instant/momental beauty creation' on ice , that kind of beautiful, pure artistic little pictures, impressions that etch into my mind and seve as an inspiration, for me in writing, drawing, choreography work, dancing...It's just great feel to sense that kind of experience with so much 'heavy'/loud skating around.

and way to go with 600 pages!:hb:, You made it guys with Patrick happy place:laugh:

Patrick praised P/C's Worlds 2014 LP performance and said he aimed to be able to reach and move the audience like they did.

An additional  for the news flash. :)

Patrick praises so many people :) true class act... unlike me ;)

for instance he also says Javi is very artistic ;)

Javi is artistic in his own way which is part of his success. I appreciate different styles but Patrick's is sublime and supreme, a different league from all others.
