2017 GP Skate Canada Ladies FS

There should have been at least 2 carrots for Osmond there. So every single skater gets at least 2 and Osmond magically not even getting edge calls, which she usually gets. Sure, Jan....

kaetlyn rarely gets carrots or edge calls.... very rarely she may get a ! on the lutz ...

she jumps high and rotates her jumps.

BTW. Courtney had a similar hand down on her combo and also didn't get a deduction... it's up to the panel to see if the whole weight was on the hand or if it's just a touch down

It is worth to mention that only skater with higher TES than PSC is Marin Honda.
What this mean?
a) she is only one to perform better/comparable to her level.
b) she was really underscored in components (maybe cause she was first to compete)
c) ...

This is the real travesty of this event. Marin could/should've been on the podium. She skated first, which really did her in. Her chances of going to the GPF were killed in the short program. Skate Canada has had a very harsh panel during the last years. Satoko and Rika had really tough times here. I would be cautious to send my skaters here. I'm curious to see how she'll do in China.

To be honest her spins actually looked better to me than last year. She seemed to have more speed and hold revolutions longer.

They did look a lot better today! I know that she has said in the past that she doesn't do spins that much/doesn't like them because of concussion history. So it wouldn't surprise me if choreo was the same.

This. Although I do think a lot are attacking Kaetlyn herself (as many do with Evgenia). I think it's within our rights to criticize scores, but it's important to blame the right people. Osmond's score was a joke, but that was entirely on the judges. She doesn't give herself her own scores.

It's just like all the disgusting, petty, vile comments Adelina still gets from her OGM nearly four years ago. She didn't judge herself, people! The bullying that some of these skaters have to deal with because of their placements, which they have NO CONTROL OF, is enough to make anyone suffer a mental breakdown, ESPECIALLY teenage girls and younger 20something women.

Keyboard warriors like this disgust me, especially when they hide behind "freedom of speech".

To those asking about the conversation between Anna and her coach. First of all it appears they have a very honest but sadly not that encouraging relationship (but hey, maybe she needs the tough love, who knows). From what I recall, the coach told Anna that maybe she should practice more run-throughs of the entire program, as she only started doing them a week ago and not often enough. It seems the coach thinks Anna's not putting in enough effort. She also mentioned that Anna should gather more speed as she skates because she jumps with no speed, on the spot, and just generally seems dead on the ice. And yeah, she said that if Anna continues like that, she won't go with her. She probably said some other stuff but I can't recall.

My opinion: that's really harsh, but I can't say that it's untrue. I don't necessarily think Anna needs to change coaches, she probably has other issues mentally that she needs to take her of, maybe see a phychologist or something, because she really needs to sort some things out (her confidence mainly). The coach could've been more... I dunno, nice? :frown: But it's their relationship.

Regardless of the "Relationship" You NEVER tell a student that you are quitting unless you mean it!! I wouldn't be able to trust, or even look at a coach who spoke to me like that. I have been on both sides of the fence and I can tell you, that conversation would have broken my heart and ended our relationship.

Uh Osmond won by 20 points. The 9.5's and 9.75's are crazy (not as crazy as getting 10 with a fall) but her overall PCS was around where you would expect it to be with average home inflation. Elsewhere she would still clear 70, I'd imagine.

I would looooove to cross reference those wailing inflation here (when Osmond wasn't egregiously inflated, and neither were the other two Canadians at that) with whether or not they had anything critical to say about Rostelecom.

And instead of battling this kind of behavior, we get commentators on TV actively enabling this. So it just escalates.

All the wailing and gnashing of teeth over the less-than-perfect performances here is hilarious. It's the second grand prix of the season. This is expected. Not everyone is as insanely consistent as Medvedev — who had a fall herself last weekend. Chill. They're trying to build to peak at the Olympics, not Skate Canada.

I won't even comment on the mania for accusations of overscoring on display, except to say that it's no surprise that Kaetlyn would be the only skater with no downgraded jumps. Under rotations have never been one of her weaknesses.

I never had the courage to see Anna´s long program worlds 2017, and from what I read here, I think it is best that I do the same with this performance and pretend it never happened.

Same with Alissa czisnys worlds 2012 meltdown. Still can’t watch it to this day.

Average home inflation for a great program, not with a fall, an almost fall and a pop (with totally generic and forgetable choreography). Definitly not enough to beat Marin's perfect program (comparing the mistakes) by ELEVEN points.

omg, I seriously was hoping that poster was exaggerating or making things up. Poor Pogo, I think she needs to find a new coach. Honestly, Goncharenko or Mishin would be great options, though Mishin probably has a full schedule training Carolina and Liza. Maybe Goncharenko would take her since Lena left?

How about Alexi Uranov

Did you watch the other skaters?? In comparison to them how did Ashley do "so poorly" the winner had a touchdown stumble on a combo and a pop and won with an almost 20 point margin for gods sake. Did you watch Anna? That's skating poorly. Ashley wasn't on top of her game but she delivered a solid skate with less mistakes then the other girls.

 And showed incredible fighting spirit.

Thanks for clearing that up. I'm all for tough love. If it would actually work. And that doesn't seem the case here. And another thing is to say these things behind closed doors, but not in front of the World for everyone to see. For all her 'mature' looks, Anna seems still teenaged minded to me, and Anna Tsareva is the adult here.
