2018 US Championships Sr. Ladies FS

Utterly without controversy, IMHO. Bradie skated the best. Mirai skated the second best. Karen skated the third best over both programs.

The issue of what PCS someone might or might not get from international judges at some other event is irrelevant. The question of who might beat Caroline Kostner or Kaetlyn Osmond is irrelevant. These three U.S. skaters earned placement on the U.S. Olympic team.

For those holding out on whether it will be Karen or Ashley, it will obviously be Karen. Just look at the PCS.

I REALLY wish Karen and Ashley duked it out at Four Continents. It would be the most fair thing, but again, I don't think they would give Wagner that shot (they'd be more likely to give Karen that shot if the positions were reversed).

I still can't with Bradie getting highest PCS. I can get her winning but she'll be lucky to get 65 PCS internationally.

Haha. I love Nationals. Thanks for the laugh.

I would argue the reverse. Ashley can go to worlds for her swan song, she’s already been to the olympics. Karen likely has another quad in her and could use the experience.

I was thinking the exact same thing. Ashley to worlds would be fine with me. I still think if AW went to worlds, the international judges would probably put her way ahead of Braedie.

Heck. Send Mirai, Karen, and Ashley to 4cc. Top two go to Korea. If you add up all of the qualifiers and average it out, all of these ladies would pretty much tie for qualification. That’s what makes it extra heartbreaking

That's actually an interesting idea.

If they WANTED to send Ashley, they would've given her PCS equal to what she earns internationally (PLUS regular Nationals inflation!!!). She was doomed from the beginning, which no one predicted. I think we all just about expected USFS to give her all the help she needed to get on that podium (THE REAL ONE, not that pewter BS) no matter how good or bad she performed, justified or unjustified.

Yeah this is def a surprise compared to how we were talking before the SP.

It's really obvious that
1. They didn't want Mirai to win
2. They're pinning all their hopes on Tennell
3. Everyone has now decided to hate Ashley after she got the US back on the world podium

.... Gracie's tweets have been the best thing about this night. And Mirai's happy tears, which I joined in on.

USFSA has to send Bradie. Too big of a score to pass on. But I don't see Bradie getting these marks internationally. I know she did well at Skate America but, still, there is not much of an international body of work to use in comparison. Mirai has the capacity to be in the top 10, maybe 5, long shot podium. The third pick is tough. I'd go with Ashley. Karen had 5 underrotations in that program. International judges will not hold her artistic scores to the levels that the US judges did. Neither Karen nor Ashley had a great year. Ashley has had long term better achievements. Karen has had her moments but consistency is not her game.

What if they sent both Ashley and Karen to 4CC and let them duke it out there?

Exactly! It is not like Karen didn't get called on her TES.

Well we all have pretty low standards from Wagner in terms of freshness considering the never-ending Moulin Rouge's we've gotten from her.

She's gotten more acting mileage out of Satine than Nicole Kidman ever did, though that's only because of the time she's devoted to the role, not ability.

Polina withdrew (???) because of an old injury. Bradie placed first, MIRAI PLACED SECOND, Karen third and Ashley fourth

I fail to see the humor. Yes, Karen got 4th place at worlds last year, and won Nationals. Karen also followed that up with bad placements on the Grand Prix this year.

You’re telling me that NBC isn’t screaming at USFSA to send the 3 time national champion, multiple Grand Prix Final medalist, and the last US lady to win a world medal since Kimmie Meissner and Sasha Cohen, only a year before Karen’s 4th place, and routinely gets some of the highest PCS scores in the quad, over someone who only finished 2 points ahead, with scoring that would never hold up internationally? And USFSA won’t listen?

Now THAT is funny.

Mirai would definitely beat Bradie if she landed her 3A clean. Bradie's PCS are going to deflate on the international stage. I
preferred Mirai's, Ashley's and Mariah Bell's programs to Bradie's. And honorable mention to Karen Chen's spiral.

and how many times in competition has she been clean with the 3A?

Besides Mirai at NHK (the competition all her fans went gaga over) was close to perfect on all jumps, except the 3A, and still couldn't break 130! In fact she barely beat Alena Leonova in that LP!!!! Her goe was very low and will continue to be so. Bradie will get much more goe because her jumps are superior and therefore her PCS marks will go up as well (because like it or not the tech and PCS are linked). Bradie's reputation will only go up while Mirai's 3A hype hasn't really worked anywhere except at these nationals

Bradie's PCS did nothing for me. She is sort of like being in Nathan's position before the artistry was more developed. I think they should send Mirai, Karen, and Ashley, with Mariah as an alternate.

WHYYYYYYYY does the pewter medal exist other than sadism???

So that people would know
1. Who did not get to the Olympics; or
2, Who was the one that bumped one of the top 3 to go to the Olympics.

And both in 2014 and 2018, is the same person.
