2018 US Championships Sr. Ladies FS

TBH the one I'm most disappointed about is Angela...I was hoping that she at least landed top 6 to get a very good shot at 4CC...she might still get it with Starr but I'm not sure.

I doubt Ashley will accept an assignment to 4CCs. She "doesn't do" 4CCs.

If Ashley says no, this might bump Angela up to a 4CCs spot. Even if not, they might want to give Angela an alternate spot because it'll give her more USFSA support $$$. I think they did this with Mirai, maybe last year or the year before?

---------

Also, can Starr do 4CCs (senior) and junior worlds?

I don't see that the 3 ax helps Mirai that much considering the points she has gotten with it in competition. Hope it doesn't become a nemesis for her.

Utterly without controversy, IMHO. Bradie skated the best. Mirai skated the second best. Karen skated the third best over both programs.

The issue of what PCS someone might or might not get from international judges at some other event is irrelevant. The question of who might beat Caroline Kostner or Kaetlyn Osmond is irrelevant. These three U.S. skaters earned placement on the U.S. Olympic team.

No, no, no. These were how they were SCORED, Not how they skated.

It's really obvious that
1. They didn't want Mirai to win
2. They're pinning all their hopes on Tennell
3. Everyone has now decided to hate Ashley after she got the US back on the world podium

.... Gracie's tweets have been the best thing about this night. And Mirai's happy tears, which I joined in on.

Ashley "got the world back on the world podium" so US figure skating owes her forever? That just doesn't make sense.

Yeah it was mentioned a few pages back. :palmf:

Thank goodness it didn't seem to affect her in the FS!

So proud of all of these ladies but especially Mirai. :luv17:: She fought hard to get back to the Olympics and she richly deserves to be on the Olympic team!

Bradie was awesome, clearly the most consistent jumper we have now. Still a little bit juniorish for my taste but her FS is still charming. Imo Ashley was amazing! I really enjoyed her FS. I would have had her in third over Karen but no controversies here. Hopefully there will be none when they name the Olympic team!

I thought Mariah did a terrific job too!

Honorable mention to Starr Andrews! What a talent for the U.S. in the coming years! Well deserved standing O!:

MIRAI - YOU'RE GOING TO THE OLYMPICS AGAIN! WOO HOO!:yahoo:

Yeah this is def a surprise compared to how we were talking before the SP.

well they would look pretty stupid if they kept the same storyline when the judges were saying the complete opposite

that's why you don't run your mouth until its all done (but of course I doubt this group of commentators are capable of that ;))

If Ashley doesn't do 4CCs she needs to retire cause she'd probably lose all USFSA favor and that was on thin ice from what we saw at this Nationals

Heck. Send Mirai, Karen, and Ashley to 4cc. Top two go to Korea. If you add up all of the qualifiers and average it out, all of these ladies would pretty much tie for qualification. That’s what makes it extra heartbreaking

Why should Mirai still need to jump another hurdle to go to the Olympics?

Tennell’s PCS are the biggest farce of the ladies event at this championship. I can’t believe she will be going to the Olympics as a 20 year old skating to such childish music with awkward posture and immature presentation. I take nothing away from her technical mastery, but her PCS leave A LOT to be desired. There’s no way she will get scored as high internationally on the second mark.

You are all fighting for who is going while Wakaba, Elena, Rika, Polina T, Mai and I don't know who other more exciting skaters I forgot will stay home. Think about that.

Is it really necessary to put the American women down by insinuating they are worse skaters than the Japanese and Russian ladies who didn’t make their respect teams either? Good lord. There are only so many spots for so many skaters, it goes with the territory of this sport when it comes to the Olympics, Worlds, and 4CCs/Euros. But we don’t need to divide and degrade their talent, stereotypically based on nationality alone.

Bradie's score here would have pipped Yuna Kim for the silver at the 2014 Olympics.
I'll just leave that sitting there for a minute with a big LOL. Get real. The USFSA are to blame for overscoring these girls again, and again, and again, and then casting them aside as soon as someone comes along and skates two clean programs.

Everyone who is here to rub salt in the wound should gtfo.

And byeeeeeeeee to the Bradie haters. She never had a senior GP until this season. She struggled with injuries in the past. She's from a non-brand-name coach and she clearly doesn't have top tier choreography. But the girl can jump and spin as well and as consistently as the Russians and Japanese, with better transitions than other US ladies. And hit those level 4s.

As if US Nationals were the first to have inflation for certain skaters over others. Consistent skaters get fabulous PCS internationally even when, in an objective vacuum, they aren't THE BEST EVERRR. USFS is simply following the trend. I don't blame them - like fans, they are frustrated with inconsistent skaters and skaters who can't rotate their jumps.

And bless Bradie, she's past puberty, which is also in her favor. Let's see how she fares under the pressure cooker at the Olympics and get her working with Shae-Lynn or Jeff Buttle next season.
