2018 US Championships Sr. Ladies FS

Honestly give Michelle the third spot and call it a day..

Michelle Kwan? I'd be all for that. She could do a program like Katarina Witt's Salute to Sarajevo. Solves a multitude of problems and would be a surefire ratings boost.

;)

Sealing her fate IMO.

She had a generous score based on her performance IMO.

Oh, I agree. Ashley is making a mistake here.

On a related note, I need to be a journalist. Because my question to her would be “Who should be off the team to make room for you?”

I think she’s going out scorched earth. She won’t get names to the Olympic or World Team, and she won’t accept 4CC.

good for Ashley to speak out and she totally is right. Her PCS were ridiculous, especially considering the PCS inflation going on for other skaters. Yes her SS is not as smooth as Karen's, but her performance quality has always triumphed over her SS in her PCS scoring.

I really appreciate it, when skater's speak out to unfair judging. They should have known that they couldn't pull that off with an Ashley Wagner without her speaking out.

Do I think Ashley deserves to be third? Not necessarily. Karen was pretty good and she was hit with many unfair UR calls, when judges tried to fix things. I don't think Ashley can beat Karen if Karen skates like she did. But do I agree with Ashley's PCS? Nope. And I think she would have taken her fourth place so much better, if the judges gave her the PCS she deserved for her performance quality and then didn't shower Karen with undeserved UR, resulting still in Karen third, Ashley fourth.

LOL pretty funny. How about Lu Chen? Jimmy Ma and Emmy Ma?

Lu, Nathan, and Karen Chen, Patrick Chan, and Mervin Tran all have the same Chinese family name. I think there is a skater named Tan and he would be one of the old family too.

We have also gone through Jin, Kim and Gold meaning the same thing.

As for Ma, I'm more familiar with Ma Lin and Ma Long, two of the greatest table tennis players ever.

If she does or doesn’t go, she won’t change who she is, we know this. However, her stating this on the air may open the eyes of outside forces, like NBC or public sponsors. who may put PR pressure to take her.

If she does it the private way, USFSA can just say “we’ll take it under advisement” and do what they wanted to anyways, and after the fact, if Ashley puts up a fuss then, put out a bland public statement thanking Ashley for her long contributions to figure skating, but they are going in a different direction.

IMO no amount of pressure will convince USFSA to knowingly give themselves that huge of a PR disaster which will no doubt ensue if they pull another 2014.

Given what happened to her here, I bet if Wagner had to do it over again, she would not have chosen to skip 4CC last season as she could have medaled and perhaps won it last year with the lackluster performances there and it would have made her resume much more marketable to the Olympic selection committe at these Olympic trials.

Ashley seems to have decided for some years, now, that 4CCs is beneath her. Same with Skate America, too, per her own statement to Andrea Joyce. From the way she looks at them, I seriously doubt she’ll want to do either competition again.

And then there was the new short Ashley was planning to create right away, evidently at Worlds and Olympics (again to Andrea Joyce?). This is called counting your chickens before they hatch. Doubt this went over well with USFSA.

Arrogance was definitely not a winning strategy this season. Hard work, commitment, and talent were evidently the magic combination.

I’ve never been a fan of Ashley because her performances make me nervous and the posturing seems so cliché, but the arrogance made her skating not worth my time. I had just kind of had it with her.

And that was before tonight’s petulant blasting of her scores. Skaters don’t make scoring decisions; judges do. They’re not hers to make. Mindbogglingly disrespectful; not the kind of person you’d want to represent the US or the fed at the biggest competition in the world.

I can’t figure out why people keep making excuses for her.

They sent Max Aaron to Worlds in 2014 instead of Jason Brown.

I have a feeling this will be the case. It would be a bitter pill to swallow for Ashley/Karen not to go to the Olympics but it would honestly be a suitable, fair solution to split the big-ticket events and give each of them a shot. There are rankings and 2019 Worlds spots to think about too.

Chen and Chan are the same name? very confusing.

I agree with you, WeakAnkles, and I reported this poster. Hope it makes a difference. Bringing race into a conversation that has nothing to do with race is irresponsible.

Thank you for doing this. I received an infraction yesterday from my interaction with this poster, and even though I am not arguing it, I believe in the course of our discussion that there were multiple occurrences that I could have reported, but I don’t know how to report people 😂😂.

Mine was actually tame compared to what I saw with other interactions, including the above.

I feel like Ashley really has only herself to blame for the situation she is in. One does not simply debut a "one month old" program at Nationals and expect to gain a spot in the Olympics by virtue of her PCS. Hopefully the selectors hear the pure ungracious bile she unleashed during the interview.

You really think the US public cares who's on the Olympic team? What few people I know who are watching have never heard of any of these people and won't remember their names until reminded again by February. Sad to say, but that's the case of figure skating in the US now. :ohwell:
