2018 Olympic Figure Skating Team Event Day 1

Congratulations Shoma!!

Highest SP score ever recorded in the Olympics!!!

Haven't perused the pairs yet. It's unfortunate the men were such a disaster (save for Uno, Bychenko, Rizzo, Cha) but at least Team Canada is in a solid position now. It really is the best we could have hoped for since we assumed to have probably been 3rd in men and 2nd in pairs. Here's hoping Osmond can have a solid SP in ladies and V/M should likely take 1st in dance. I still think Skate Canada shouldn't take anything for granted and ensure Chan does the FS (he needs a confidence boost after that SP - and he likely to do better than Messing would) and that V/M and D/R skate both segments. W/P could do the free dance but it's riskier than V/M.

OAR will gain ground in ladies but if Osmond stays within 2 places lower than a Russian, then V/M should cancel it out by likely placing 2 places higher than B/S (maybe more depending on the Italians).

wow, Miu Suzaki & Ryuichi Kihara are really popular on twitter with their yuri on ice program.

I chose to not wake up at 3 a.m, but rather record the event and watch at 6 a.m so I could fast forward commercials and zamboni breaks. Sad about the men's event, but well, here's hoping individual will be better.

What a disastrous men event. Only baby Cha, Bychenko and Rizzo for save the day.

he's always smiling and happy, no matter what he shows on the ice. i'm so tired not only of his performances, but also of his attitude. he also likes to say in an interviews that he did well, right after he skates a program full of falls and pops

Yikes, this statement is rather salty. So the guy is trying to be optimistic and put on a brave face, and you're actually holding that against him?! Would you rather have him breakdown a la Pogo at Worlds?

Also a program is more than just jumps. So a skater can still believe they did well in spite of jump errors.

And finally, his job isn't to act how you'd like him to act and say what you want him to say. He's not here for you.

Apparently it"s going to be very hard for S/H to take over S/M in individual. They should go perfectly clean.

I caught only Mr. Uno's program live and thought to myself "eh, he is rather scratchy today." Then I rewound the DVR to watch all men's performance and realized how smooth Uno's program was in comparison. Even outside the jumps the performance was just not there. Everyone appeared to be on a knife's edge even during the footwork sequences.

I am really hoping this was a chance to shake off whatever nerve they were feeling. My family (who are not skating fans) did not enjoy the performances and it became obvious that I was holding them a captive audience.

Mmkay, but it’s not like it was the best program ever. Just score inflation taking its course.

Oh it's not the best program ever. But it's the highest-scoring Olympic SP ever. Even dropping his PCS to 45 would have made it the best score ever, thanks to the 2nd quad.

Funny is the effect the Olympics have on scores :cool14:

After the team SP in 2014 a reporter asked Yulia how she felt about her best performance ever. She was quick to point out it was just her best score ever ;)

Meghan also has terrible lines. I imagine that bothers TAT more than anything.
the difference between Eric a great elegant skater & her is visible. I bet it also bothers her. No harmony.
& obv she hates the ppl who are self righteous & slander others :disapp:

If T\M aren't chosen to skate the free then OAR are saying "we don't want a shot at Gold or Silver"
who cares about silver
Gold is out of reach anyway (& it was obvious when Ksenia is out) so who cares :confused2:

I kind of agree with this and especially the part about Eric being an elegant skater. I hardly ever comment on Meghan 🤔

Hey folks, GS is covering. Check out Twitter/Insta for photos. Here's a quick recap with quotes from the skaters. Feel free to comment on the "article" thread here.

I just landed in ICN and checked the results.......which is expected somehow.....*palmface*

Edit seeing what saltine said I decided not to go through this thread....

Just catching up on the Men’s SP in the team event. A very depressing event, very poorly skated. Uno looks in very good shape. At least Bychenko and Rizzo skated well. Shocked with Chan, Chen and Kolyada. Team OAR have work to do, US and Canada (despite poor skates) have scored ok.

When Kolyada messed up his final jumping pass, you could see a look of relief in Team Canada 🇨🇦, they realized he would be behind them.
