2018 Olympic Figure Skating Team Event Day 1

who cares about silver
Gold is out of reach anyway (& it was obvious when Ksenia is out) so who cares :confused2:

No...they could have easily (and still can) put T/M on both programs...the gold is only out of reach when they make decisions to put it out of reach

the difference between Eric a great elegant skater & her is visible. I bet it also bothers her. No harmony.
& obv she hates the ppl who are self righteous & slander others :disapp:

Pointing out that athletes should be clean is not slandering others.

That short program was Nathan's nemesis *ba dum ...*
I didn't expect a clean showing from Patrick but I feel even more for Nathan and especially for poor poor Misha :(

Well done to Shoma and Alexei for skating solidly.

I woke up in time for the last group of pairs then kind of snoozed again afterwards so I'm still catching up on what I missed. I have seen most of the men's SPs and congrats to Junhwan and Alexei for skating clean programs and to Shoma for his almost clean program and winning the SP here. Great job, guys. And especially congrats to Shoma for keeping his cool and getting through that first mistake with the 4F. Also, that smile after his final pose can grow crops, clear skin, feed world hunger.

I haven't seen Patrick's SP yet (I'm trying to find the courage) but I've seen Nathan's and Mikhail's. While I kind of expected Misha wouldn't go clean, I didn't think he'd combine the +Combo and 1A issues he's had all season into one single program. :(

Despite really liking Nathan's short program, it didn't have the same humpf it usually has. What went wrong here? The overwhelming pressure being thrown at him from all corners of USA media and too great expectations to meet for a 18-year old kid? The lack of a consistent layout that doesn't allow him to fall back into body memory? Whatever it is, he needs to shake this off and come back stronger on the 16th. Hang it together, kiddo.

By the way, what is the issue with his 4Lz, of which it seems he's only done one in the three official practices so far? His 4F doesn't seem nearly as stable as the 4Lz was.

That was a glorious demonstration of Pairs skating by T/M. Sky high triple twist, wonderfully in sync SBS, amazing throw with great height and length, brilliant lift. A rightfully deserved PB and clear victory. I was pleasantly surprised with D/R, better than I’ve seen them, she has worked very hard to improve, their tech really helps them out. The Germans felt flat, they really slowed down into the throw.

The Kneirms skated very well, skate clean and they will be over the 70+. Disappointed for the Chinese, she looks so regal on the ice, but messed up sbs cost them, if it was clean they would only be 4th at best, which is a bit harsh. On the whole a very well skated competition, I really liked the lowere placed teams.

I wonder has Kolyada cost OAR the gold? It will be hard to catch the Canadians.

Technically this was a top draw for T/M. Impressive twist. Even higher than S/M. But the best comment I read here was they are just too good for their programs. That is the point. They are skating to juniors' programs.

After you have seen Aljona's make-up and dress there is only one name for T/M's costume: ugly tatters.

Have been catching up with the posts here. Thread is so long. Happy for Shoma^^

Wonder if it would be possible for Japan to grab a Bronze in the team. One could only hope^^ Wish all the skaters a good and clean skate!

OK, I'm a real Johnny Come Lately here as I'm only just catching up on the Team Event action because I've been at work and have just recorded the whole day.

Apparently the American dude on Channel 7's commentary is Jim someone or other...never heard of him, LOL.

I'd like to say the Tech Box here at the Olympics is seriously sad...come on IOC step up your game.

Ya know...it’s working for them somehow. Maybe others have good programs but they don’t always live up to it/give it justice where as T/M clearly are noticeably better than their programs. I’m not sure I know of many others who had not so good programs and got so much success out of them....not named Kovtun who I always had a soft spot for. Especially I Can’t Dance

A pity we have not had that from Kolyada the entire season :frown:

Ok, I missed the event, then woke up and watched the no spoilers videos and wow. Just wow. What did happen exactly. Is this Olympics already. Is this a new competition where getting your ass on the ice adds GOE? Omg. Poor guys. And poor my heart.
It's such a pity. Nemesis is one of my favorite programs of the season, but that costume was terrible, and somehow Nathan didn't sell the performance as well as he did in other occasions. Guess Oly pressure really gets to you.
Kolyada...I never really got his SP, but I never wanted to see him bomb. And this wasn't even bombing normally, it was almost an...implosion. Poor guy.
Shoma didn't start with his usual energy, but managed quite well to hold on and improve and by the end of the program I was hooked.
I'm still heartbroken about Patrick and I don't want to talk about it. I keep hoping he'll go clean and show everyone but... It's such a pity. He's such an elegant skater. I keep hoping, I keep hoping.

And to end in a positive note: I love Cha, I love Cha, and I love Cha!!! He's one of my faves for the future :3 so energetic and lovely and lively and... I'm very glad he got to skate clean. And what a good layback! Good mojo for Orser Team, I hope!!
I'd've loved for him to have got higher scores, but that's figure skating I guess! Kudos to him anyway and I hope he delivers in the next events.

For me it's strange how the Russian Fed decided to split the disciplines. i think it was the wrong strategy from the beginning.
