Men - Free Program

I was just about to say, when all was said and done, things turned out pretty much the way everyone was predicting.

The only surprises were Verner  and Oda  (but seriously, why can't the boy skate the program that he prepared and practiced a thousand times without forgetting how many combinations he has done?)

Is it possible that Oda has a memory condition(acute amnesia) that is set off by high pressure and stress. Something needs to be done about it!

Yay Brian!! I'm so happy for you.
I like this podium, but only wish Evan had done another firecracker performance.

Congrats to Brian and to my favorite Daisuke who had the skate of a lifetime that brougt the house down. Also a shout out to Evan and Johnny for securing three spots for the US next year.

Poor Jeff! I don't know why the silly guy went for a quad. Not necessary considering all the splatting before him. A clean performance would have assured a silver, or at least some medal. But there's always next year, and hopefully he'll be more trained then!

I love Jeff, but with the way the top guys skate, I'm not sure a clean performance without a quad would be enough for a medal, and a a performance that was clean except for a splat on the 3A definitely wouldn't have been enough.

If you can consistently rotate the Quad, it's always worth it to just go for the jump in the Long Program. A fall on a Quad is worth 5 points...if you don't do the Quad then you basically have to put a Double Axle in your program, which is always going to be worth less.

In any case, the Quad really has no effect on how clean the rest of Jeff's program is. He knows there's a 99% chance that he'll fall or land really poorly. It's there simply to give him an extra point or two.

You know, I realize that I'm a minority on this one, but my heart goes out to Emanuel. I just wish he could shake his personal demons and skate like he does in exhibition. That's what the world should get to see.

His jumps looked really laboured to me this time. It was like he didn't have the energy to rotate them.

Paul Martini: "He showed signs of being at least conscious in the program"

... he did go on to say more... conscious of doing this/that. I just thought it was funny!

Espn didn't show Emanuel's sp and I suspect they won't show the lp either, but i do feel badly for him. He is a beautiful skater - but IMO his problem now is way beyond 'mental' (and I mean that sympathetically). I sincerely hope he can find competitive energy and training, or happily retire and WOW us in shows.

I mean that Emanuel has clearly suffered from nerves or some kind of 'mental' block for years - hence, the major mistakes from a man who many call the best skater in the world. But, he appears, this year and IMO, to be out of shape or not well trained as well. I don't mean it meanly - i admire him a lot.

That was a great LP by Lambiel! Good for jeff to try the quad. I would never feel comfortable to see a male skater get a medal without a quad. It was like expecting a medal without a quad is waiting others to fall.

ESPN just showed Verner - what a great he did, beautiful jumps - lots of areas to improve, but really gorgeous jumps and presence on the ice.

Yup, I like Lambiel's program as well, very aggressive. Kodus to Jeff, at least he tried quad, rotated his 3A.

OKAY

Can someone please make clips from the ESPN broadcast especially the traditional shot of Brian Joubert shirtless and the fluff piece.

ok - I must agree with Button that Lambiel just had to many mistakes in his LP - BUT what a GORGEOUS absolutely LOVELY and AWESOME program.

I really admire it more when skaters get new programs each season, but I sincerely, truly, honestly hope Lambiel keeps both of these for next year and skates them lights out all season long. Wow - i loved it.

I actually really liked Weir's LP - I just wish he could skate with energy and conviction 'cuz he is another beauty to behold (IMO).

Me too, hope Lambiel will keep both just so he can skate them full out without mistake. It reminds one of Yagudin's program Gladiator, my favorate one, but he never skated that one clean how would I like him (Yag) recycle that program.

I still don't get Weire.

Brian J. was wonderful. Diddn't expect him improved so much.
