2023 NextGen Team Camp - Competition Simulation | July 22-24

Ooof, I just realised how long their combined names are :dbana:

But also, these two are so good (3Tw2, 2A, 3ThLo), especially for such a new team. Martina is a pairs girlie through and through (look at that fight on the throw landing 👀), and I'm so happy she's been able to find a partner who works for her. Definitely contenders for the JGPF, if they keep it up like this.

Not a fan of the music selection, tbh, but that's just my personal taste. 🙈

Jazmine and Kieran actually seem like a very decent match visually, with their long legs and great extension. Solid debut for them too, though they are currently still lacking some of the polish, difficulty and synchronicity of Ariano Kent/Laliberté-Laurent. 3Tw1, 2A (timing still very different), 2ThLo, fall (?) by Kieran in the sbs spins.

Pretty program and pretty skaters ✨

Ava and Yonathan are keeping their Short and I'm very happy about that, it's so fun and it fits them so well. ☺️

Nice start to the season, with an effortless 3Tw2, effortless 2As and an upgrade to a 3LoTh. Ava got a bit off-axis on that throw, but hung on like a true champ. Another contender for the JGPF, me thinks?

Annika and Kole are new juniors, so I was expecting them to not have quite the same level of difficulty as some of the other pairs.

What I was not expecting, however, was for them to be almost the same height  It's not necessarily something bad,as it does make for a very unique and striking picture, plus allows for easier synchronisation on sbs elements, but it does make twists, throws and lifts harder, and he hasn't yet filled out to the level that he's able to quite make up for the lack of height at the moment.
Does anyone here know how old they are?

Ashlyn and Tristan also don't have the biggest height difference, but Tristan had enough strength that it's not a huge issue anymore. It does also have to be said that he's 21, so that doesn't come as a massive surprise either.

A lot of slightly negative GOE, but no huge issues, except for the quite messy cath on the twist. Huge upgrades in difficulty for them - Triple twist, clean 2As, triple throw. If they can clean this up and show similar difficulty in the Free, the might have a shot at the JGPF too.

Not another tech issue :rolleye: Actual score for these two is 46.51 - 4th place.

Don't think I've seen either of these two before, and they also clearly are still a pair in the earlier stages of development. Solid base, with a nice double twist and double throw, and decent synchronicity. Nice visual match too, and love the burgundy outfits, particularly Lily's dress

Some issues for Lily on the double axel, and just general small errors that will disappear if given more time for development.

Well, I am very happy with what I've seen here today. Two pairs teams who I'd already label as competitive, and two to three who could become competitive soon enough. - I don't think we have to worry about (Canadian) pairs at the moment based on this display.

She would be 13/14, he would be 15/16. He is probably the youngest male partner that will compete in juniors in Canada this season. They have been skating pairs together for at least five years. They are brand new up from novice, so I'm not surprised that this first outing was a bit rough. They were doing sbs 3S and throw 3S last year, so hope they are able to perform those elements in the free. It would be great if they could get the nod for at least one JGP event.

Oof, I freaked out a little when I saw the 24.xx! Not sure if I am a fan of them staying in juniors, even if they are allowed to by a loophole, but am glad they are sticking around for another season. The more provinces with strong pairs programs, the better.

Really looking forward to the dance. This will be the first time I am watching the 80s dance theme for this year

So exactly at that difficult stage where the girls are already starting to top out in height, while the boys are not growing significantly yet, and also still have difficulty building muscle.

In that case, I hope they can stick it out for a bit longer because they're otherwise well-matched. It's just going to be a bit difficult for a little while.

Juniors are foxtrot. Don't know if it is an 80s foxtrot, but suspect not.
This season juniors and seniors actually do have the same theme (80s), just different patterns (Rocker foxtrot for juniors, silver samba for seniors).

Not sure if I'm personally a fan of that, it could get quite draining to have the listen to the same kind of music over and over again at every single ice dance competition.

Tango was already a lot last season, and that was just juniors and not juniors and seniors.

Oh, I didn't realize it was different for juniors. Seems lively so far anyway
Juniors also still have 2 compulsory segments.

Sometimes JR and SR themes are related (blues for one and midnight blues for the other, for example, or two types of waltz). That probably won't be true with the recent changes for the seniors.
