2024 Skate America Free Dance

Detailed marks

British judge with F/G 1st in the FD
US and Spanish judges had Smart/Dieck into 2nd
Georgian judge the only with Davies/Smolkin in 3rd
Czech judge with the Mrazeks into 4th
So things as usual
Ah, Korean judge liked Neset/Markelov

Jean Luc does deserve accolades for his commenting, which was excellent! I am hoping you encountered him at some point in the competition, and were able to tell him how much we enjoyed him!
I am so sad to say I have not. I have a dad joke I’ve been storing for 3 years in my brain for him and that’s a very dangerous place in which to store things.

Had I known he would be here I would have attempted to find the Olympic t-shirt I bought to support him.

Congratulations Fear & Gibson for skating very well in both programs for the win. Nice recovery to Chock & Bates for the silver. I think this program will grow on me more as I get more familiar with the intricate holds, transitions and difficult lifts. Jean-Luc said it best on the practices - this is a hard program done well. Most improved goes to Olivia & Tim on making adjustments to costumes, music and obviously putting in a lot of work on unison and polish. I knew you guys had it in you and you entertained us all so much. Nice GP debut for Neset & Markelov.

So, I'm curious what people think....does it help or hinder Diana Davis to be Eteri's daughter? I certainly think of her as talented but she and Gleb have made a pretty quick ascent in the ice dance ranks. Deserved?

F/G. I love her red dress. Really good program and skate. :cheer2::jump::yahoo::party2:
I fully believe she will be changing into a shining gold dress by end of season so we are bedazzled and forget about her lack extension.

It is a fun program, but more of the same. I also noticed they skate quite far apart and had some hesitation before a lift, so I’m surprised at how high they scored.

Rough outing for team USA in their backyard.

I’m sure they were hoping for three golds and only got one.
And that one not by the expected muchly much, and without taking the FS. Skate America is notorious for home cooking, what happened???

I'm biased, I really dislike F/G's FD, IMHO, it highlights all their weaknesses, isn't fun, and isn't original or creative. So, I'm with the US judge on this one. I would have put that program under S/ D by 5/6 points ( love that program, it's so unique and creative) and under C/ B who skated extremely well today and whose program suits them by a good 10/14 points. But, as I mentioned in other posts, fans are even more biased ( despite the fact most won't admit that) than judges so the actual result is fair enough.

Levels had an huge impact on the RD scores, the FD showed who the judges really favor. They aren't really into the "nepobabies." The only "top" team who was really hurt badly by levels in the FD were the Mzareks Their coach is so good at teaching explosive power, but despite the fact that he serves on a technical panel and used to work with Queen Barbara Fusar- Poli, his teams consistently get hit with low levels even when visually clean. I like the Mzareks but I love the Taschlers and I hope that coaching team figures out the levels.

I saw Olivia and Tim at this event last year. They have improved so much and well deserved this bronze.Etri has lost her mojo..just her drugs! As far as I’m concerned she doesn’t belong anywhere near skating..She should have been ban for life and why she is allowed coaching and at competitions is beyond comprehension!

Hmmm. Interesting. I honestly overall would have put Chock and Bates first though I do find them an awfully lucky team Fear and Gibson were good but in my opinion overmarked in the RD especially Still I can see what happened. I thought we might see one of the Canadian teams make a break through instead it was the Americans. I was not really impressed with Spain or Georgia. They were okay; I know Spain has its fans I do think the judges wannt to give Fear and Gibson a world medal but who will they dummp of the curent top three teams. My guess is Canada but on the other hand Canada has an up and coming team that seems hot. Fear and Gibson has had two years to make a break through adn they failed..

Okay, all caught up.

My adoration of Mrazkova/Mrazek is obvious.

Other than that, I am sick, sick, sick to death of Dune programs. I hope the fashion moves on by next season.

What's happening with Canadian dance? I thought we were all set for dance...apparently, no longer?

I don’t think D/S are a terrible team, they are sort of like Egadze in men. Proficient, but lack any sort of character to engage; if others mess up, they grab it. Smolkin improved last year, but stagnated this year imo, while Davis is more of the same. In the end, no matter how much people woop-wooped, Tutberidze's Georgian entries all took 4th place, but only Metelkina/Berulava actually underperformed, reason unknown. All of those 4th places came after much stronger feds in presumably hostile event. So, you do the math.

I thought C/B were interesting in the FS. Never was a fan of F/G, but Europe taking gold? I'm down with it. It was C/B to give away, and they did.

I will always find it hilarious that the dance teams are better at the pairs spins than the pairs are.

Love Neset/Markalov's first lift. The Czech team is so undervalued. One of the best touching the boards moves I've ever seen — usually I'm not a big fan, but this was great. Incredible lift where she stands on his thighs, but behind his back. Lauriault/Le Gac: the end of the program is dynamite with tons of great unique moves and a dynamic choreography section. The rest could still use some work, in my opinion. But I also thought they were judged VERY harshly here for a small slip at the beginning. So sad for Fabri/Ayer. Not the impression they wanted to make, and that fall looked painful.

Smart/Dieck: I liked this FD. The placement of the twizzles in the choreography at that point in the music is brilliant. And their lift sequence at the start is very effective.

Davis/Smolkin: This music....why? Just why? There were a couple of interesting lifts but on the whole this program is the definition of generic. I was bored.

Chock/Bates: I love Take 5. So I wanted to love this. I'm so disappointed. Where's the avant garde? Where's the unexpectedness of jazz? Where's the cool? Instead it was a bunch of generic footwork. I was hoping for something outside the box, instead we got a very safe, expected program. So disappointed.

I find Fear/Gibson perpetually overscored, and this was no different. Besides being bland and forgettable, it was messy.

By far the two best programs of the day for me where Smart/Dieck and the Czech team, with an honourable mention to the end of Lauriault/Le Gac's program.
