2024 Skate America Rhythm Dance

Even if Marie-Reine Le Gougne had been the only person on the technical and judging panel, the scores could not have been more rock paper F'ed up.

Hopefully Gilles and Poirier will save ice dance with their surf rock RD next week. They're my only hope for an anchor in this sea of chaos.

I am trying so hard to not complain and be rude about the judging because skaters can't control it, but

a). can we please get rid of the choreo rhythm sequence and its scoring? It is a stupid element because there are so many teams with really great choreo sequences that get tiny pittances of GOE and then Lilah and Lewis do the exact same thing that other teams are doing and get 4+ points on the element. It's wholly based on reputation and maybe your ability to do a cartwheel or fun trick move (this isn't a complaint about their score so much as the element itself)

b). hating on Diana and Gleb gets taken way too far sometimes, but for me, they have some of the weakest skating skills of the event and I personally would not have had them on the podium based on how everyone else skated.

A small nitpick, actual title: LeFreak.

Signed maven of 70s disco and loving the disco Brits. :)

LOL!

I forgot that! I do remember the origin of the song. It was written after Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards (founders of the group Chic) were turned away at the door to the infamous disco Studio 54.

Angry at the "red velvet rope" policy, they wrote the song with the shouted phrase "Freak Out", but it was originally "*&%# Off". They changed it to "Freak Out" to make it radio friendly.

I had a feeling watching practice that Evan in particular was a little off at practice.
We will see how the free dance goes. Congratulations to Lilah & Lewis! Boo to the judges for such weird judging - something to irritate just about everyone.

Way to go, Fear/Gibson! I for one am tired of seeing Chock and Bates win championships with noticeable errors and don’t even get me started on the ridiculous over scoring they’ve been gifted at the past 2 world championships, particularly in the RD. I am hoping for Fear/Gibson to pull off the upset on American ice. They already beat Guignard/Fabri last season at the NHK Trophy and a 6 point lead is HUGE in ice dance. Chock and Bates are rarely clean and I am tired of seeing the judges over score them. They are not in the league of Papadakis/Cizeron and the judges need to drop the act that they are.

I am lamenting the placement of Mrazkova/Mrazek as they are my favorite team here, but oh well. Live to skate/dance another day!

As a C/B fan, I think it’s clear this was a fluke mishap for them but I wouldn’t be surprised if they rethink their RD before GPF. I also think it’s very clear that Fear/Gibson now have the edge to win this event, though Madi and Evan may win the FD.

And I am tapping out now…

Yes I don’t dislike D/S but today I really didn’t think they skated their best. Diana’s edges did not look that deep (at least on the TV) and they seemed slower than I’ve seen them skate before so I am a bit puzzled by their marks 🤔

I loved the 70s and saw lots of men dressed like that.

But no one was wearing bad cologne? Or cologne at all? Maybe the Philly clubs were different. ;)
Side note that my mom is actually from the Philly area 😆 but to be fair by the 70s she was living in NYC. She also vocally hates 70s fashion to this day, haha.

All judges agreed with Fear/Gibson's overall lead. Spanish and USA judge were on the low side for them (below 80)
6 had them also leading in PCS. 3 put them behind C/B in PCS (USA, Spain and Korea)
Canadian judge had Chock/Bates third behind Davis/Smolkin
Spanish judge had Davis/Smolkin into 9th
British judge placed Fabbri/Ayer last
German judge still love Tim Dieck (had them 3rd overall)
Korean judge had Neset/Markelov into 3rd

Oh. Ah. Turns out the ex-Belarussian and now Georgian judge Levshunova also judged at that famous Warsaw Cup where Diana broke all records and made sure she'd be at the Olympics. Jussayin.

I don't mind the "Madi and Evan are always overscored reputation scoring even with a mistake so terrible Americans home ice so terrible on and on"

because their scores are just as fair as Diana and Gleb's.:sneaky:

But glad to see Lilah and Lewis in first. Not because I have some deep seated resentment of Madi and Evan, but because they deserve it.
