2024 Skate Canada Women's Free Skate

Alysa please ditch MacArthur Park. It is so generic. Unless it really is all about the fun then keep it. Maddie S I don't know what has gotten into you this season but it is doing you a world of good on so many levels. Kaori you seem not so comfy with Chicago. I hope you work your way into it. Rino that FS was inspirational and is a primer for not giving up on yourself.
I have always thought MacArthur Park was a weird song, but it good to see Alysa back and enjoying skating.

If this had happen in any other country with National entries Maddie would have medaled - so much for all those who always said the CAN skaters were over marked at home events. !
Actually - although it is very early to say - it looks like home advantage may not be as blatantly slathered on this year; even at SKAM which is notorious for it, favourites Isabeau and C/B didn't win last week and Malinin did, but was down from his usual perch.

So maybe just maybe...

But officialdom's favoured will still be overscored overall. That changing is too much to hope for.

It was great to see Alysa back on the ice but that music is just ridiculously horrible for her. Massimo Scali - you should know better than that! I don't think it's skateable music, for one thing, and it certainly didn't stretch her artistically. She looks really good for having been away for a while. I do like Kaori's music. I think it usually gives her a chance to show some personality but tonight she just seemed "off" to me. Maddie Schizas did a great job. Not sure she would have medaled anywhere else but she was certainly giving a good fight.

I am sorry but calling out an announcer "racist" for butchering a name is going too far. I bet announcers in other parts of the world have a hard time with plenty of names. That doesn't make anyone racist. Unprofessional, fair. Racist, no.
He also butchers Rino's last name. How long has Kaori been on the scene now? Clearly he doesn't respect Japanese people.

Chris gushing over my baby again and again :laugh2:

"not just jumping skill but her skating skill oh my goodness"
"she's a revelation tonight"
"and I'll say it again, Rino Matsuike from 10th place to winning the free skate over the world champion, then got herself the silver medal"

If Chris were a GSer he would adopt her instantly I bet

Alysa please ditch MacArthur Park.
I love Donna Summer, and she's a way better singer than him (which is, umm, not hard), but for me Macarthur Park belongs to Richard Harris.

damn, the american girls are really struggling this season :bed:
Again, not really, Alysa did exactly the same as she did in the early competition. So, did Isabeau last week. Bradie, ditto. Isabeau is not an early season skater, and Alysa and Bradie are doing well considering they are just returning to competitition. They are both strong competitors. Elyce just had one good competition where she was definitely overscored in PCS for her empty programs. The last two competitions were very inline with what is expected and previous seasons performances. The Korean women also did as expected, unfortunately.

Actually, the ones who surprised me were Rino (in a good way). Yeah! And, Kaori and Hana. I expected more from them. They both seemed very very tired this week. I'm sure Kaori will get it together and I am really rooting for Hana .

Same with the non-Yuma men too! Really going back to the pre-2014 ages.
It's not quite as bad as it was heading for Sochi though - at that stage they had Takahashi and Hanyu as locks, which meant all of the rest, great skaters who were easily among the world's best, battling for one spot

It's no different than Siao Him Fa. You get See-Oh and See-Ow (as in cow). But it has nothing to do with racism. Heck, Kagiyama gets his last name pronounced so many ways I've lost count along with Koshiro's first name. It could be worse . . . this is the face Yuzu made when the announcer said: "Representing China, Yuzuru Hanyu."

C/B and Isabeau lost too many points to win. C/B got very high PCS despite their fall...

Can you blame him though 🤣 it must have been so shocking after reading her bio (17th in JNats) and 10th after the SP and seeing THAT.

I'm so happy Rino showed up and showed out. Skate Canada is her lucky place it seems 🥰

Also I think all the favorites need to do is just not lose too many points to lose to the next best scored skater in the overall competition. Easier to say than do, and it really depends on who the second skater is.
