2024-25 Senior Grand Prix Final Women's Short Program

Wakaba's dress was rather... undistinguished.

False, Amber cleanly landed the 3Axel. The loss of balance was on a transition after she had landed the jump. She was deducted in PCS for that error.

How odd to try and claim that a skater who wasn’t even in the event would have skated clean here. Events like this when errors are contagious to all the skaters happen from time to time.
It clearly should have got a q, plus she was completely off balance in that landing. One judge gave this jump a +2 another two +1 :scratch2:

As you can see, clearly on the q, then desperately tried to hold her balance which led to putting her knee down on the ice.

We got this all of last year with an American skater where the tech panel and judges suddenly had dropped the strictness they had for other skaters (especially those outside of the Big Two) and would overlook all the cheated landings, big GOE for mule kicks, etc.

Then on the loop Amber has a two footed landing but got a +3 from one judges and +2 from another. What is going on?

As you can see this is the loop landing both feet down on the ice.

It's about the integrity of the event and that has now been tarnished.

Also, Amber didn't get dinged for a fall. "A Fall is defined as loss of control by a Skater with the result that the majority of his/her own body weight is on the ice supported by any other part of the body other than the blades e.g. hand(s), knee(s), back, buttock(s) or any part of the arm."

This is exactly what Amber did.

Also look at her flip. Clearly underrotated. Tech panel missed it again!

I feel very sorry for Mone Chiba where they didn't miss dinging her with anything.

Both Amber and Kaori pre-rotate their Flips and Lutzes so much that their takesoffs are so circular they get away with URs all the time because their hooked landings blends right in with their cheated takeoffs.

Wait until you see her FS dress...
I went and had a peek via the Skate America video and pics. Very meh, which is sad considering she had a couple of my favourite outfits...

Kaori's OTOH I think is great, proclaims 'queen' for all to see.

I'm of a different opinion- I thought the red is garish and the opera gloves are there to hide her lack of good posture when she doesn't generate her usual speed. And wait until you see her FS dress...

I'm not surprised of the lack of creativity and quality, especially if Wakaba is still commissioning her usual designer.

Anyway, Wakaba is hilariously my favorite performance even with the fall (her owning up to being a dumbass who puts her combo last is cracking me up, lol). Please leave this dumbass layout here and NOT bring it to Nationals, thanks.

Rino's SP is just the universe saying she can't have a clean SP, she'll be too overpowered for this world.

Also is it just me, the camera angles, or did everyone seem slower? Including Kaori, which exposes her bad posture.

Its hard to understand Wakaba's logic of placing the combo last when she gets calls on it all year. Maybe she was just experimenting before Nationals, where the World places will actually be decided. If she wants to tweak her SP, she should replace the flip with a loop. My biggest criticism of her is that since the huge letdown of missing the Olympics with her Skyfall program, she seems to always take the long view of building for Nationals instead of really putting 100 percent into winning individual competitions.

Wakaba is a dumbass (complimentary, said by me with fondness) who wanted to have fun here and she had nothing to lose at this stage of her career, and honestly I'll take her laughing the mistake off compared to Kaori sobbing after her SP.

And on Nationals, I'm sure she'll play it safe, but what's there to lose? At worst she won't get called up to Worlds, meaning it won't be her responsibility if anything happens to the Olympic spots. Win-win in my opinion!

Yea. Its next years Nationals that will determine Olympics placement anyway. All the Japanese girls here have done enough already this year to be in the running next season. Higuchi definitely seems to prioritize expressing herself and doing what she likes. Hopefully she brings the 3A next season.

Like her skating I guess today. But there's a tomorrow. Actually all the skating for the ladies was "undistinguished"' ; kind of disappointing not just Kaori who fell and missed levels but no one owned it. Good for Amber though to be first. I may have gone with Mone for first but whatever. The base value of the triple axel is worth so much even with a mistake. I guess we will see a wild freeskate.

Dancing days? Not sure what you mean. The only dancing I've ever done is in the clubs /discos! LOL

I am so sorry. I had brain fade last night and mixed you up with another member. (I'm so relieved that I didn't reply to the other post of your's that I was going to reply to, as that would have been even more embarrassing!)

I realised it as soon as I woke up this morning, and was hoping you had been away from the forum too so that I would get the post edited before you noticed. But, alas.

By the way, I don't know why, but I noticed yesterday that the GIF's embedded from that particular site, yarn.co, are not displaying on my computer. Other GIF's are. I had to copy the addresses and open the actual pages to view them.

Doing a Google search, and there seems to be an opinion that it is a dodgy site. But, I don't know if that is right.

Just thought I should let you and other members know about that.

Anyway, sorry again for the mix-up.

Actually Wakaba probably skated the best of anyone today, especially her step sequence was the highlight. She just also made the biggest mistake as well. Honestly, for the overall skating, Kaori was probably the worst, which she would probably agree with. The problem with Amber's 3A scoring today was that her UR didn't even get a q or even negative GOE, despite the obvious ice tracing of her landing and her knee down.

If we score the jumps correctly, and still maintain the massive PCS for a program where every jump element was cheated, and the huge GOE on everything else, her score would have been 64. This is totally unfair to the other skaters who don't get these bonuses.

Mone’s SP really doesn’t display the wonderful quality of her skating in the way that her sublime FS does. I understand Mone being marked lower in the SP because the music doesn’t fit her style of skating at all in terms of interpretation and performance. She doesn’t give the energy and expression in her performance to match the uptempo of her SP music, so I agree that her PCS in the SP are lower than that of Amber. Skating is not just about jumps either. Mone earned a level 3 on the step sequence while Amber earned a level 4 on all of her non-jump elements.
