2025-26 Russian Nationals Pairs Free Skate

Maiia Shegai & Andrei Shaderkov (PRM). I loved the music. I loved the costumes.

But, unfortunately, they didn't have the best of skates.

They go into 3rd position in both the FS and overall.

I can see arguments either way but it should be consistent across disciplines.
I don't know about that. Pairs and Dance are super different disciplines headed by different technical committees... There are a lot more levelled elements in ice dance than in pairs, and most ice dance teams are going to be aiming for lvl 4s for both partners, while in pairs you could easily have a team purposefully aim for "mismatched" elements on sbs jumps (quad+triple or triple+double) even with the slight negative GOE that would incur, as long as the BV is high enough. 🤔

well it's winter, isn't it?

No need for the skaters to rub it in, though. We can feel it and see it!

At least Valeria Khodykina & Daniil Butenko (MOS) costumes don't have that "cold" look to them. They are black and royal blue.

"Winter" is always great music for skating to. But, I am not sure about the way it went all modern towards the end in this programme.

But, I enjoyed that.

They go into 2nd position in the FS, and the lead overall.

*Looks out the window*

Probably not in the European part of Russia.
You guys aren't covered in snow there in mid-December?

3Loq two days in a row? I must be completely blind but Valeria rotated it both days.
I can see this as q especially relative to him still being in the air and finishing perfectly—basically an entire quarter more than her.

There was usually snow the last couple of years, but not now. Even in St. Petersburg, it's not. Though the forecast looks like I'm going to be frozen soon.

She didn't transfer her weight here, though.
