Petrosian, or other top Russian women in recent times really stir up emotions. I think Adelia really only got away with that 3A in the short program that should have got a q, and the final 3T in the free skate which should have been at least a q or maybe an underrotation, but didn't have a huge bearing on the overall outcome. In terms of judging, that's no worse than what we saw at the GP final.
Petr had several huge underrotations not even given a q, several q's not called and no-one cares. Even the people who only jump into the Russian championships threads once per year, just shrug. No-one cares.
Just an observation is all. Russian women really stir up emotion and passion, even if they haven't really done much wrong. It's great for the sport to have such passion I suppose, and it's only really Russian women that can stir it up in people.
I'll have to re-analyze the clips of her jumps, but let's say she had gotten a q in the short for the 3A and a call on the second 3T combo in the FS, it wouldn't change much. She would still win overall in comparison to both the silver and bronze medalist.
One of Teamtut's biggest strengths that I like is the math for their top athletes (barring that random plus rep for Kamila that one time in the Russian GP's that made no sense on how it happened). A lot of them can think on their feet and swap in a difficult combo for more points in the second half.
When Alisa fell on the 4T I thought she would go for another 4Lz or another 4T or even push a 4F (I saw that she also lands 4F now in training videos?) since she was behind by 12 points.
When I saw that she didn't go for it, I automatically thought "that's how she lost". If she had successfully landed a risky 4Lz + 2T instead of 3F! + 2T she'd definitely have beaten Petrosian for the gold medal.
I saw the results before watching the FS so when I watched I was fully analyzing the skates of the girls and doing the math on how Petrosian held on to the gold medal.
The way some people exaggerated the event I thought the judges pulled magic tricks and broke rules by giving her +4 and +5 on the fall, the step-out and the pop. That would make more sense here, but that's not what happened.
She was rightfully blasted with -5 for the only fall she had on 4T and -4's and -3's for the step out on 3A. 0's and -1 for the pop on the other planned 4T. There was no positive GOE manipulation for Petrosian over Alisa for her major errors. The math---the basic arithmetic just worked in her favor for what she threw down.
All three girls on Podium fell once and had 2 or more errors with negative GOE in the free. No one skated a clean free on podium.
Alisa received a PCS boost for her fall at Nats by +3 as a new Junior turned senior at her first senior Nats.
Maria at her first ever senior nationals with 2 errors--one of them being a fall received +3 PCS boost for that fall.
Both the silver and bronze got +3 boost in PCS for falling. Both girls with 2 errors and a fall.
In contrast, Petrosian the reigning two time National champ with 5 seasons competing at Senior Nats fell from grace by practically -6 in PCS. She got punished twice as much for 3 errors yet for some that is not enough. They want to her to be punished even more by over -27 points in PCS which no skater on earth receives. Even the worst skater on the planet does not get -27 in PCS for falling on every single jump pass. It's absolutely ridiculous some the hatred thrown her way.
Alisa won the free skate over Adeliia---it seems like some people forget this and act like Adeliia won both events. Alisa won the event where she bested Adeliia in BV.
Alisa lost the overall event due to her own mistake of not taking enough risks to secure the gold medal. If she was truly hungry for gold she'd go for the third quad and I stand by that. She could have even forced a 3A in the short just like Petrosian to guarantee that Adele has as little lead as possible and so she could surpass her score.
Maria lost due to having nearly the same BV as Petrosian with zero lead technically in the free.
Maria had 75 in BV while Petrosian had 74 in BV.
Maria beat her by less than 1 point in the tech score. 1 point does not make up for a nearly 15 point lead in the short. Yet it seems no one is doing that math.
Even if they boosted Maria to 70 PCS out of nowhere to match Petrosian's regressed 70 PCS in the free instead of the boosted 65 that Maria got, she'd at most score 223. The math was never on her side to beat Petrosian with that 15 point gap in the short let alone Alisa who had a 6 point lead over Maria from the short score and free BV. The short (who should be on top) is debatable between Alisa/Maria since they competed based on the same elements and the artistry is subjective/up to taste in some aspects but the judges favored Alisa overall for the lead. To them she was higher quality by 3 points for that 74 vs 71 in the short.
I may not like the mistakes Petrosian made in the free (and this is why her gold win feels so sour and not satisfactory like last season as we all expected a clean skate after the clean run-through at the practice session. We saw her hype, she failed to live up to it, and it seems some people want to destroy her credibility completely for it), but for me she rightfully earned her gold. She got her deductions for her major errors, added an extra 3-3 combo in the free, and took the risk in the short to almost guarantee herself that gold medal.
The extreme fixation that the Russian ladies needing to be perfect in all things (spins, jumps, glide, flexibility, deep edges, emotional projection, etc) compared to the Russian men is next level disturbing. It makes no sense. I wish it was passion for a good portion of these fans but for me it's more so malice towards the skaters especially if their from a certain coach. They do not keep this same angry negative derogatory "perfectionism" energy for non-Russian ladies when more errors are made even from more controversial coaching staff.
However, I am seeing an increase this season in snarky comments towards Petr since he is the one going to the olympics. He wasn't a target before he was chosen.
I'm not satisfied with the freeskate of any of the ladies on podium at Russian Nats, but agree with Adele's placement. The most heartbreaking was Dasha.
