this is a funny rule isn't it ?
Apparently, the first lift, he lifts her over the head too long.... so that's an illegal move... however, for some odd reason it doesn't make the lift illegal... just that part of the lift...
so the element counts but there is a deduction.

I think it would be the same for a choreo step sequence where I believe emilea did jump an axel (if I recall correctly) and received a penalty... the choreo seq is not nixed but the illegal move receives a penalty...

Same, to a lesser extent with Canada. Nothing much before Bourne and Kraatz (we have to go back to Wilson McCall) who had to fight against so many Russian teams and the French... then Dubreuil-Lauzon made some progress for Canada and opened the way to Virtue and Moir.. At some point, Virtue and Moir, Weaver and Poje and Gilles and Poirier were all competing at the same time... amazing when you think of it that they all won world medals.

I thought LaLa was headed the right way with their 5th place 2 years ago... but they are going down the rankings lately. They will need to have better programs and hopefully, Dubreuil executes .

as a long time ice dance fan : it's a love-hate relationship.

I am getting slightly better with the years in accepting what I cannot change.

Piper and Paul are Olympic champions in my mind and heart. And I am okay with being delulu

enhanced protocols from skating scores is easier to read... you can see how dirty the judges played this one... they are all over the place.

Vadym's exceptional talent was visible for me since I saw him for the first time at junior level. He stood out from the rest and still does, and only gets better. Emilea is newer to ice dance but it's incredible how fast she got to the level she is, they are a great match and she doesn't remain in the shadow at all. Even if I'm not Igor's fan in terms of material he gives to his skaters, I cannot take my eyes from them. Plus they seem to be the best trained team in terms of fitness, they must work incredibly hard and it's a sport after all, form matters.

I haven't actually kept track of who said it, but I've heard at least six or seven, maybe eight commentators, all former elite figure skaters, say that Vadym is actually the best male figure skater, period. It was Johnny Weir the last time ... he said Vadym is the best skater he's seen, across all 4 disciplines.
I'm glad I've refused to get interested in the really technical aspects of Ice Dancing. But I love love love 😍 to watch Vadym😍:love4:. And the way Emilea complements and keeps up with him is something else!

ETA: It was either Tracy Wilson or Gabby Papadakis (commenting for US Nationals) who said the way Vadym moves seems God-given. So yes, exceptional talent!

Emilea and Vadym did so well today! :jump3:

I'm old enough to remember when the US was a complete wasteland in terms of ice dance. US figure skating owes a LOT to the coaches who moved here.

I hate to say it but Anthony creeps me out with his "acting." the last time I was this creeped out, it was by Gene Wilder in the Chocolate Factory movie. I couldn't even allow myself to see the Johnny Depp version! So sorry, not sorry.

I really love the way Christina Car skates, though. She's a Madison Hubbell style diva in the best way!

I hear you, but Anthony comes by all that drama honestly. If you've never seen them, you should check out his parents' old performances on YouTube.

The apple doesn't fall far from the tree! ;)

I haven't watched his parents in a long time, but I used to. I don't remember them affecting me the same way.

I'm glad I only have that reaction once every 30 or 40 years! It does go to show that we all have preferences and all respond in our own way. :)
