12. Elladj Balde QC
Black costume with greenish pattern.

TES: 35.80
PCS: 29.22
Total: 65.02

Oh yes. Balde just brought the house down. He is DA Man!

3A, iffy but landed
3F-3T
3Lutz nice.
His in-betweens are not as intricate as Joey's
Final combo spins, the last two positions are short on rotations and slow. He was visibly tired and had some stamina issue. Other than that, you look at him and remind yourself what men's skate is about.

Wow Fedor into fifth and another group to go. Mira got buried also in her SP. Well I guess the Canadian judges are being as tough on their skaters as the international judges will be. I only hope the US judges do the same at US Nats next week.

What Balde amazes me is, he's leaning way off the axis but still manage to land the jumps

Now Fedor into 6, still one more group to go:no:

my computer cut out and I only caught parts of Fedor and of Elladj Balde

Fedor - you can see he's undertrained. engaging casual style, (I don't think a knock off of what Joannie did at all ) but not as *commanding* as he probably could be, indeed needs to be, to pull it off competitively.
3a i think had a skid on the takeoff, good that he even rotated it, but nowhere near able to land it (did he get full rotation credit?)

Elladj - interesting unique skater, skating to native S.American music (pipes and percussion) with i presume a native-inspired tassled costume... crowd loved him, hopefully he can build more speed and attack into his skating. 65.02 into 2nd and pleased with that.

Well, let them be tough on the other skaters, just not my favorites.

I agree, even though it is tough to see likable skaters falter and be given low scores. It is fair in the sense that they will be judged this strictly in international competition and it's important that they be prepared for that.

You mean the one choreographed by Jeff?

I don't know who choreographed, but Fedor does this Joannie thing at the beginning of the program with both arms up and swinging his hip. I just had a hard time warming up to the program with little originality.

Current standings:

1. Joey Russell NL 68.27
2. Elladj Balde QC 65.02
3. Ken Rose CO 60.82
4. Jean-Simon Légaré QC 60.40
5. Paul Poirier CO 58.12
6. Fedor Andreev EO 56.68
7. Gary Wong BC 55.15
8. Maxime-Billy Fortin QC 54.69
9. Louis-Philippe Sirois QC 54.07
10. Matthew Penasse WO 48.13
11. Brennan Martin EO 38.32

Andreev's 3A was downgraded. He also had one level-one spin, and only level-two circular steps.

Patrick Chan will make these men look like boys and he doesn't even have a quad or a solid 2nd triple axel. Pretty obvious who will win this year.
