2025 Canadian Nationals: SR Women's Short Program | Jan 18, 2025

Fee-Ann landed a stunning 3F-3T in warmup, which surprised me as I hadn’t seen her attempt a triple-triple before. She seemed frustrated with her score, likely expecting to take the lead, but it’s a reminder that a triple-triple is now a baseline standard. Despite her strong skating skills and jumps, a triple-double won’t suffice. Likely a 60+ skate—hopefully, she can bring the triple-triple next time! Very
Clean-ish, I would say. I think we had URs. And spin travel.
Still, well done! Wonderful to see her so happy
I didn't see any under rotations. Her Landing positions are so great, I love her extension, all the way through the fingertips.

Well it was not poory skated but boy area the judges stingey. If this was the Usa we might see a five percent raise everyoe. Madi deserrved say a 73, What a dog fight for the bronze though. Yikes its anyone's.RUiter could stil comme back and take bronze.

70 and she even got a q on her 3t - which looked OK to me.
I think that would score 70 internationally. From what I've seen, the tech panel and judges seem to be scoring on an international standard, which is refreshing in a national championship. One caveat: Sara-Maude was overscored, IMO, especially in comparison to the rest of the field.

I hope the tech panel is also wearing their international glasses when it's our turn next week.

What Sara Maude did well was extremely good. So, got penalized for her wonky combo but her axel, her Lutz and everything else were so clean and beautiful. I can understand the score though I also thought it could have been a bit lower too

Well whoever hoped for 6 55+ scores here in the Short, we got a few more than that - Ten of them, and really Justine's score is close enough to count it, no? Also, two 60+, one of which is a 70+ score.
That was me.
The Canadian Women mesmerized me. I didn’t expect Juliane, Hetty, Breken to do so well… I enjoyed this competition. Everyone is so close to one another except Maddie. Placements 3rd to 13th are separated my six points. The fact ten ladies exceeded 55 is fantastic.

I wonder how many ladies will surpass the domestic benchmark of 166. I hope to see at least four of the ladies do it…
😜

Maddie was 🔥
The best SP I have seen from her. Just as good, if not better than her Olympic performance. This lead of 8 points is a nice cushion for her.
Lia will face some competition from Maddie domestically next season.

Katherine 🔥
61.99. I thought she was tense and nervous. The 3T 3T and 3Lo were tight jumps. I hope she holds on to the podium and gets to go to 4CC

3-8: Within 2 points of one another. In the top group, I expect Juliane and Hetty to fade. So, Sara-Maude and Fee Ann are in a good position to get that 4CC spot

Now for my faves:
7th - Breken: that was solid. I was hoping she would get a better score. But, that lutz did look under
8th - Kaiya: I think she should opt out of the triple triple. A 3F 2T will give her more points. I thought she was doing well with the spins until she botched one of her spins. All these lost points make a difference. I expect her to move up with her free skate
13th Amy Shao: She is my fave!! I was clapping until she fell on her 3F. I wish she went for a 3S instead. To me, she has the best skating skills; my artistic Queen
17th My Grace 😭: she was on her way to a 50 SP score until she messed up that spin. I’m hoping she rallies to move up a place to 16th. Please go for two 3T, not one 3T in the free skate. Go for it!!

Uliana was the shocker!! I think she is out of contention for a 4CC spot and Junior Worlds spot. The good news, is that her Denis Ten score of 178, might get her GP spots anyways. This allows others to get SC spots so that four of our ladies are in the GP circuit instead of three.

Sr. Worlds - Maddie
4CC - Maddie, (Katherine, Sara Maude, Fee Ann, Breken, Kaiya)
Jr. Worlds - Hetty, Breken/Kaiya, Kara and Megan

So, basically five ladies duking it out for the two available spots for 4CC and JR Worlds. It will be an interesting event tmrw. May the best skater win!!

Regardless of scores, Amy Yang was one of the skaters I enjoyed the most. Skaters who really express music seem to be so few and far between these days.

Maddie was clearly the class of the field. Love the Lion King program. It was sophisticated, and her performance quality was unmatched. The jumps were gorgeous and big. She finally looked like she was having fun skating again. For the last few years it's looked like some kind of final exam that she had to get through. Hope to see a good LP as well.

Nice to see that Medland-Spence's Warsaw Cup wasn't a fluke. And Sarah-Maude looked good here too, in spite of the jump error.

The top 3 after the short are 3 of my favs. Really like Sara Maude and think she has the goods to do well - she just never seems to put 2 good skates together. But here she did show more promise in that she skated strong even after a big error. Really hope Katherine can medal and make the 4CC team. Think she has earned some international respect with her Warsaw win so she might get some good marks at 4CC if she skates well.

Maddie should take the title and go to 4CC. I hope, Katherine Medland Spence will get a medal and get to go to 4CC. I hope, Kaiya gets to go to 4CC.

Maddie was just sublime tonight. A bit hesitant on that triple combo but other than that..absolutely solid. I think Fey Anne Landry has improved quite a bit since last season. I haven’t seen much of her. Kaiya to me has improved a bit too, especially with jump technique, but I think she still has a long way to go in terms of maturity on the ice. Another o e that stood out for me was Breken. She has a real love,y style of skating. Very smooth. Love to see her work on some fluidity and speed but she’s a fantastic skater. She could move up a bit if she skates a good free program.
