Why do many people think classical music is easy to skate to? Not challenging anyone, simply curious about it...
The commentator of Eurosport also said Caro's Humoresque SP is a piece of music easy to skate to, which, for me, is a piece of music very difficult to express.

Actually they dare not choose the most difficult classical music piece to skate to. Try Beethoven Sym 7 movement 2. Or some Bruckner, lol.

The Duchesnay's used Beethoven's Symphony 7 ( I don't recall which movement) for a pro program.

Actually I think any piece of classical music is likely to be easily skateable because they all fulfils steady time signature principles such classic schools have been taught, not like blues and jazz. Problem is we have this tiny problem called the COP and its requirement which would certainly involve some editing (butchering) to the music if movements need to be conveyed faithfully. I doubt anyone had the heart to butcher a Beethoven 7 thankfully.... afterall, majority of music were never written intended for for skating, let alone choreography movements in the first place (unless written for dance originally, like Bolero, Swan Lake, ballets etc..).

I'd love it one day if Andrew Lloyd Webber can be challenged to write something specifically for the COP skating preferably for a FS program to avoid more butchering of his POTO that may have made him one of the most annoying composers in figure skating history...ALIVE! :P

Hmm. There are many pieces of classical music with changing time signatures and tempos that are not steady (rubato!!!). I agree with you that certain time periods of music are likely to be easily skateable (some Baroque, Classical, early to mid Romantic period), though of course there are anamolies within each period - but once you get to maybe the early 1900s when people like Prokofiev, Shostakovich, Schoenburg, and Stravinsky are writing music, atonality became much more common. And I think atonal pieces are very difficult to skate to. Even outside of atonal music there's lots of stuff that I honestly could never see anyone pulling off. For example, some of Ravel's works. Of course, everyone knows Bolero as Ravel's most famous, but my favorites of his are Gaspard de la Nuit, the Miroirs, Daphnis et Chloe, Jeux D'eau. I know skaters have used Daphnis et Chloe before (Hughes, Oda) but the others I'm not sure if anyone will ever skate to and pull off.
So I'd really rather not say that the entirety of classical music is likely to be easily skateable, because it's honestly not true, in my opinion. Maybe the most universally popular ones are, as they tend to be more lyrical and easy on the ear for the casual listener.

There are plenty of difficult classical music to skate to. Not only to express them, the interpretation, but also for the choreography.

The 2 movement of Beethoven's 7, it's not difficult for skating.
The second it's a slow movement (well, allegretto) and the principal theme is stated four times, at full length, between the first violins, then second violins and the progression culminates with the woodwind sections with heavy crescendo and a climax.
It's indeed a good music for the Ice Dancing.

Now, Bruckner is a total different story.

IMO this piece is definetely difficult to interpret. I think Maria is re-using this Vivaldi masterpiece again this year too which hopefully means we'll see it performed even better. There are subtle changes to the meter that can't easily be counted out but instead felt from the inside. I always could hear my conductor let out a deep breath as we approached musical variances of rythym.

I agree, IMO, why certain war horse classic music among many are chosen often, is because they are easy to the ears, also has highs and lows, easy to resonate with audience and some are really grandiose, therefore, easy to bring out projection and connection.

Indeed, that's why I don't get it why skater never choose this movement.
I wish someone will skate to this lied by Schubert: http://youtu.be/DLsaSm5iG9o
