It not about the judges "letting" Max. If Max performs to his ability and commands the ice, the judges will give him huge on tech and a bit less on PCS, like they normally do. But doing the tech like he can should carry Max along with decent PCS numbers. If Stephen had not rotated the quad, then he would likely not have scored as much.

I totally forgot about Elena. But at least she is creative. And it could have been worse.
I recomend to all skaters to look at Kevin Reynolds for example (bias!) and think if they don't want to think harder.
