2015-2016 Programs by Discipline

is the great gatsby ost the new poto then?

I am not reaching for the bottle yet. So far we have a Russian Ice Dance team, one American doing something by Beyoncé... so not the same as Jason's I would think, and then this by Jason.

So we may very well not even have any of the same song played, and at least it is spread between disciplines and countries.

Perfect music for Jason. Thrilled to see this. Any idea what his LP will be to?

Rohene also sent out an message that had the tags #scentoflove #foundyourshortmusic #seeuinclasstomorrow

So, there is some guessing that "Scent of Love" might be something. Which could be a piece for The Piano soundtrack, from a Korean movie from a Taiwanese TV show, or it could be nothing.

So that is the closest we have.

Yes, since he (in my mind, surprisingly, wonderfully and happily) appears to be reprising elements of Juke in the SP, maybe we'll get the sad dramatic movie music in the LP. But I still hope it's the Asian shows (because I don't know them), instead of the Piano.;)

hmm maybe JB is using the soudtrack from the older versions then? I don't remember hearing his music cut in the recent GG soundtrack anyway

i have a feeling that it will be. it's a shame, too, since both have such lovely music.

I do hope that people use the other songs. I like Young and Beautiful, but please no saturation of it everywhere.

I think the LP will be more serious or at least lyrical than Gatsby. I think it maybe a red herring to be honest, but it still is what we know. I like keeping the SP character, but I am not sure movie music again for the LP would be the best. So if it is Scent of Love, I think my vote is the TV show.

I actually agree that either of the Asian options would be better.

Wikipedia has five movies listed (one silent - but may have had a piano score with it), a TV episode, and an opera.

We could easily have three different version of Gatsby and still have room. So with luck we will still have variety, even if a similar theme.

So the music Jason is using is NOT from the "The Great Gatsby" movie soundtrack.
It's may also be the answer to the "Scent of Love" reference.

I did a Shazam of the music and it came up with a song called "Love is Blindness," from the album "Themes Inspired by The Great Gatsby" by a group called The Grey Orchestra.

Here's the whole album from Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/album/7eZSLygEVIkyUkNWRVeXpr

This group appears to do orchestral variations on popular songs and even instrumental versions for karaoke?!. I found a few other albums, including one centered around James Bond theme songs.

I can't find any sort of bio info or who exactly is in this group.

ETA: It gets crazier...so the song is actually a Great Gatsby inspired/Charleston-style cover of "Love is Blindness" by U2 (1991's Achtung Baby): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q8_HZ2jG_60

The album is actually Jazz-age remixes of popular songs. Wow. Rohene sure finds the most obscure music.

Although now I think it would have been interesting if Jason actually did a program to the original U2 song, lol.

ETA 2: Mr. P points out this is reminiscent of the work of Postmodern Jukebox, basically the super popular YouTube group that does style variations of popular songs. Here's their "Gatsby" take on Lady Gaga's "Bad Romance."

"Love is Blindness" is in the Great Gatsby OST. It was covered by Jack White for the movie (who did a great job): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZWir6wUkPtw

Perhaps the program will go from instrumental to vocal?

Or go down in history for the program with the longest pedigree to list off.

So - I think we have a 1920s orchestral cover of a movie cover of a U2 song.

Answering the question "Where is Misha Ge from?" is almost easier than this.

I mean, whenever people do the orchestral (usually the Vitamin String Quartet) version of "Feeling Good", it's an even longer pedigree, because the Quartet based their cover off of Michael Buble's version, which is a cover of Nina Simone's version, which is a cover of a British musical.

But technically I'm still right (for now), as the version played in the video is NOT on the Great Gatsby soundtrack. Not to mention the musical styles are very different!

In any case, the program won't be similar to the others who actually use the OST.

That said we haven't seen the whole program so maybe the Jack White version might be used? The length of the song by the Grey Orchestra is 2:42, which might work within the 2:50 program requirement, since there is a +/-10 sec grace?

"Love is Blindness" is the only song that is in both the movie soundtrack and the Grey Orchestra album. The rest of the Grey Orchestra is a mix of modern songs and standards.

Ok, I may be alone in this since its been used A LOT, but does anyone else want to see Ashley Wagner skate to "Papa, Can You Hear Me?" for her SP? I feel like it would be a really good change and a good chance to have another go at playing a "sad" character instead of a "fierce and sassy" one. The last time she did something like that was Romeo and Juliet, and I felt it was beautiful.
A skater at my rink skates to a lyric version. It's from Glee. I can just see it in my head.
Wishful thinking?
