2015-2016 Programs by Discipline

Sui Wenjing/Han Cong announced on their weibo their programms for the 2015/16 season:
SP: Romance Anonimo (爱的罗曼史)
LP: Samson and Delilah (参孙于达利拉)

choreographer: Lori Nichol

Lori? Um, I would have liked to see David Wilson better. Interesting choises indeed. Don't know if it will match, but at least no warhorses (S&D was popular a few years back and it's not that overused.)

^^I translated their interview regarding their programs in their fanthread. it's an informative interview.

The LP is quite a warhorse tbh. I like their SP music choice a lot. I think they are aiming to show their SS, performance and flow more than anything with that music.
Who did their short last season, Wilson or Nichol? I loved that one. I like their LP too.

Chock and Bates twitted: "We've teamed with #MKBlades to announce our new free dance music will be Rachmaninov's Piano Concerto No. 2".

Oh dear!!!! That's not original, they needed something original and different to challenge.

I mean, last season the other top teams skated to Mozart, Vivaldi, Strauss, Danse Macabre... I don't think it means they can't challenge, especially since they have already reached the upper echelon of ice dance.

I also think this music will challenge them personally, since it doesn't strike me as music that plays to their strengths. I think that's a good thing.

And don´t forget the success of I/Z´s Carmen.

I think this is a very good piece for them. Emotionally and personally this plays to their strengths. Both are able to emote their feelings passionately and, consequently, inherently match/respond to the 'passion' of this piece.

David Wilson did both their programs. as well as both programs for Chinese pair Yu/Jin.
As for what they are aiming for in their new programs. I have posted their interview in their fan thread. it is better to know from their own words.

Thanks I did it.

SP romance is a romantic story, about two people fall in love then separated. That sense of here and far away. Lori, hope us to interpret using our hearts. And encourage us to get involved in the process of choreo, design some moves by ourselves. She also shared with us how to present a program. such as how to use every joint, She let we dance in the music (possibly improvise).

Just as I thought.

Point taken - but to push the boundaries as World Silver Medalists to challenge Papadakis/Cizeron something more fresh and innovative would be taking a step in a new direction, yes it probably would be a good piece for them - I see Madison as vibrant and energetic with a great smile - something more powerful and playful would be in the right mindset. I am just hoping the Piano Concerto No:2 will work for them - I should not be hasty at this stage - I am sure it will be romantic!!

Rachmaninoff is a very smart choice that fits very well with the current regulations of ice dance : piano and musical punctuation will be highlighted in the step sequences. Nevertheless, there is a clear desire to go to the French P&C type of program and I think it's a disappointment. I would have imagined them better on a similar character dance to their short dance of last season

C/B have choosen a very 'safe' music IMO. I don't see how it can be challenging. I just hope their dance will NOT be boring to tears, and not copycat of P/C FD of last season. They just need a good not overdramatic dance with good choreography. Let's see if they will deliver.

I would not give them the "challenge yourself" award, but I have to say that I'm quite enthusiastic about it! I think they could pull off something really good with it

I don't believe that Najarro would consciously copy anyone else's style. The question is - how much of his choreography was changed while putting it onto ice?

The Mozart piece used by P/C and the Rach 2 piano concerto are very different pieces of music. The Mozart piece is soft and dreamy. The Rach 2 is passionate and intense. I certainly would not pick the Rach 2 if I wanted to copy P/C's style. I think Madi and Evan's program will be quite different from P/C's Mozart free dance.

The Rach is a good choice for C/B. It will be a stretch, but not a total departure for them.

Davis&White used it (the romantic part) in their exhibition program in Sochi. However, I don't remember any dancers using in a FD.
As for other non ice-dancer skaters, Midori Ito and Mao Asada (the first part of the Concerto in 2013/2014 season) also skated to this magnificent piece of music.

I wonder which part of the Concerto is C&B's choice: the slow and romantic one or the first part which is more dramatic and where the tension rises from the beginning until the final notes.
