2015-2016 Programs by Discipline

What piece of music is that? It sounded so familiar yet I can't identify it. Felt like a soundtrack.

I wish he would lengthen his signature cross grab layback spin (I mean, make it more than 2 revolutions). I just love that move.

It is the Scent of Love by Michael Nyman, very beautiful piece, from the film The Piano

TSL posted video of Jason Brown's new free skate: http://t.co/GnexOKQ3MP

The program has good potential. It is smart for Jason's team to pick the Piano OST to develop his artistry. It has wonderful subtlety and nuance which he can bring into the choreography, arguably no less effective or emotional than something like Schindler's list for Josh (I'd love Daisuke to skate to something like this). It is a vehicle that can highlight the power of stillness, hold an edge, control. Develop lyricism and elegance that arguably were previously missing in his performances. A challenge to deliver emotional rippling effect highlighted by seamless flow in incrementals (and repetition) as indicated by the main music motif. It is one when less can be more in the right place of the program. No reliance on cheap dramatics (thank gawd!). Internally reflective, brimming desire, contentment/fortitude with subtle waves of lingering sadness (as consistent with the entire sound track tracks and the piano interpretation). Nice spiral sequence already, so some good stuff.

Although I'd say the performance lacks the subtlety, emotional variance (therefore impact) I'd hope for for a piece of music like this, but it early in the season, and he is on the right track. With more polish and attention to details,, it can be really wonderful. Greater distinction between each movements with greater clarity, phrasing and pay attention to the rise and falls with understanding and sensitivity.

Come on Jason, are you going to start making me like you?! Please let there be a cheap dramatics SP program, just so I can be sure I am looking at a Jason Brown program ;P

Yes. Whether this program ends up being a success for him or not (I already think it's really beautiful, personally!), it will definitely help him refine and polish his skating. I love that Kori and Rohene challenge Jason so much because I think it really pays off longterm.

I have a feeling I'll be leading the prayer circle for Jason's 4T at every competition, though!

Any word about Yuzuru's SP?

Nope, absolutely nothing - I wouldn't be surprised if it still took a while for word to get out about that. It's not even sure if he even already picked new music, I believe.

He might have a new EX program though (if he isn't just using that for the summer shows), called "Requiem of Heaven/Sky and Earth", set to a song that's a Requiem for the victims of the 2011 earthquake/tsunami. It hasn't been broadcasted until now though.

oh, how thoughtful of him! I'll be sure to try and find a video of it!

New music 2015-2016
Short program : You raise me up - Josh Groban
Free program : Titanic - James Horner

Carly Gold posted this picture today: https://instagram.com/p/4ezvoqsAcF/. Judging from Gracie's dress, I'm guessing Carmen or Espana Cani. Was hoping for Scheherazade actually, but anything is better than Firebird!

I thought it would be the Firebird but was hoping for Schez. I actually didn't even consider Carmen because the idea of Dave associating it with Evan Lysacek made no sense to me. It still doesn't so I'm leaning towards Espana Cani.

I love the dress, tho!

Weird the first name I would throw out for Espana Cani is Sasha Cohen, Miki did Espana Cani as a novice skater so I wouldn't even think of her when you tell me that piece of music, she did do Firebird 3 times though, as a junior and senior, it could be the dress to her other program.

Lol so maybe the SP is Carmen and LP is firebird? They looks beautiful though :)

I swear, ISU needs to do a mandatory 100 point deduction for the next senior level skater that skates to Carmen (or Phantom).
