2015-2016 Programs by Discipline

I could not agree more! Most people's main problem with her was "princessy" music/packaging, and this isn't princessy in the least-yeah, it's a warhorse, but not like what she usually does. And everybody is complaining about it? I sincerely hope she doesn't read this stuff-or at least only reads her fan fest thread where it's more positive. #HatersGonnaHate

It's not just the music that was a problem/too "princessy". It's also the choreo that was rather generic, and I'm not sure different music choices alone are going to change that. Also, to me Gracie never really had any connection to her music, and that's another thing that might not change (and that's by far the biggest problem).

So the only thing I'm left with looking at that is "warhorses, and both programs might feel way too similar". I also don't have much faith in Lori, that's really not helping either.

(I'd agree on the point though that Gracie shouldn't look around internet forums. I don't think any skater should.)

I wanted to write practically the same thing about Gracie.

Any news about Polina Edmund's programs? Been looking but haven't found anything ..

I hope they use the Beyonces 50 Shades of Grey remix of Crazy in Love.

It's good, but I would go back to 2013 and use her remake of "Back to Black" from the Great Gatsby (the duet with Andre 3000). That would be dark and beautiful. I can easily see V/T kill the SP with it.

Re: Beaudry & Sorenson (DEN)'s choice of INXS's "Never Tear Us Apart" for the SD: INSPIRED!

I also recommend Paloma Faith's remake of the same song if they want to switch it up. The instrumentation is identical so they can switch it up.

Pairs

Yuko Kavaguti & Alexander Smirnov RUS
SP I Finally Found Someone, the Oscar-nominated duet by Barbra Streisand and Bryan Adams from the movie 'The Mirrors Has Two Faces'.
LP

Sorry dorispaluski, I made a mistake in typing this out the first time. It's "The Mirror Has Two Faces", not "Mirrors". I typed too fast and didn't edit!

Love the choice of D/R to do "Your Song" from Moulin Rouge -- I can almost picture their lift or throw lutz punctuating the operatic part of the song with the moon singing. Hopefully it'll establish a greater emotional connection between them that a lot of people have criticized them for lacking. Any idea what their LP is?

THIS 😍😍😍😍😍

What I learned from discussions on warhorses is that there really isn't much tolerance towards it. You choose a warhorse and people WILL complain about it (at least here on boards). #HatersGonnaHate doesn't actually pertain a skater as much as the music.

Jason Brown's "The Piano". Holy moly, that could be a work of art. I haven't seen it done so beautifully since Delobel / Schoenfelder won 08 worlds with it.

I don't think Jason does artistic well. He is more of a showman and does well in sort of the old Philippe Candeloro (sp?) type programs. I don't think this program utilizes his strengths. It looks as if he does the spirals and spread eagles over and over and the music doesn't pick up. I know it is still early and the program may change before the season starts but I do think he does better in showman type roles.

I hear ya, it's a subtle piece, but Rohene has done some good work on it. It's got a lot of potential. Maybe he should slow it down a bit more? The problem of course is if he has a bad day, and it's such a quiet composition, that it would fall flat. If he can pull it together, it will be a quiet but beautiful work.

Know who can do it well? Your avatar, Adam Rippon. HE could make that into a glorious showcase.

Have you heard the interview with Kori? Because she says exactly the opposite - that this program is something totally new for him, and that it showcases the true nature of his skating, his strengths, in a way that neither Riverdance nor T&I did.

Anyway, he's just barely started with it.

The point is to get him to grow.

Now they can get his out of the way early in the quad so he can do more him programs for the Olympic year without people saying he never does anything different. Get the different out of the way, learn what you can from it, go into the Olympic year with a beautiful resume and a very you set of programs -seems like a decent method to me.

I agree about the music, but I think the choice of music was consistent with the intent as stated by Kori Ade in TSL, which is to show not Jason as a showman but Jason as a skater with the skills of a Patrick Chan (edges and flow across the ice). In Kori's words, bring him to "another peak," i.e. level of development. As I had posted in his thread, Jason will have to "sell" the program with his skating because this music, unlike "Riverdance" and "Tristan and Iseult," won't really help him there.

Jason's Short is a Razz-Ma-Tazz program. Two of them all season would be more dreary than dazzling methinks. And his last two long programs were 'showy.' I think it's a shrewd move by Kori and Rohene to showcase an entirely different side to Jason's skating. Even if I'm not a fan of the music...

You know if Brian Boitano and Robin Cousins could clone a little bit of themselves you might wind up with this long program. Just sayin'...

Sorry, if it has been posted already. Alexandra Stepanova Ivan Bukin FD will be to original cover of the song of Montserrat Caballe and Freddie Mercury.
