2015-2016 Programs by Discipline

I agree with all the people who have reservations about Polina as Scarlett. Her on ice style has not yet proved to be as firey as the character she plans to portray. But I'm excited to see what she does with it! Beautiful music, and I'm sure she'll have a lovely program, I just hope she'll make a good Scarlett.

I am not so hopeful, maybe Polina will prove us wrong and will collect her Oscar but I'd say as of now she is terribly miscast.:)
Nothing to do with the colour of her hair/eyes. But 'that allurement to any man under ninety' (in Rhett's words) well I am not a man but I sense it is not there. Also if the intent is to show Scarlett's personal journey from a carefree girl to a have seen it all woman of 28 (I think at the end of the story?) it requires more maturity which Polina at 17 simply does not have. But mainly the story is so huge it will either be a huge hit or complete disaster. But one must bow to Polina she's got some guts - from Tinkerbell straight to GWTW, wow...

I don't think a portrayal of Scarlett O'Hara on the ice has to capture the character's sexuality. In film, yes, but not skating. Aside from the romance/sexual aspects of Scarlett's character, she goes from a selfish young girl to a selfish adult woman who is willing to do whatever she has to in order to protect herself and the few people she's got left after losing her parents. I'd like to see that gritty story told on the ice and I think Polina could be up to it, though I suspect the program will be somewhat more idyllic than that because I think in Scarlett's status as an icon people tend to forget what a gritty lady she is.

Anyway, I don't want to underestimate Polina until we see the program. Yulia did SL when she was younger than Polina is now and had the maturity to do it. I'm really excited to see how this program turns out. (And honestly, I hope both she and Rudy have read the book!)

Yulia was portraying a little girl though. The image (the read coat) already helped her for the first impact on ice.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not counting anybody out. I know better than that. ;) I was not convinced about I&Z Carmen last season (I thought another Carmen. Boring!:rolleye:) and they proved me wrong (I loved that program) and I still have doubts this season about their SD. :hopelessness: So probably my doubts are a prove that the programs will work in the end.

Takahito Mura JPN
LP O (from Cirque du Soleil) choreo by Jeff Buttle

I saw the program during one of 'The Ice' shows in Osaka. The music cut is different from Akiko's 'O', as I didn't realize it's the same song until the main theme came up. Mura was dressed in a white shirt and black pant on that day, probably some old costume. Unlike Akko's program that has a theme of bird, Mura's doesn't have a theme per se, but the whole choreography is pretty nice. I think the program is quite refreshing and it may help bring out Mura's artistic side. Besides, he nails all the jumps including a quad.

Thanks for the update, cohcaix! I'm sure it will be interesting. Great to hear he nailed the quad. I would like to see Mura-kun do well artistically.

Thanks for sharing, if I remember correctly, Akiko and Pasquale added in the bird sounds themselves so Mura's can be totally different, I hope he stays healthy next season, it's a shame with the depth in Japan that they only have 2 spots at Worlds

Well, Scarlett IS the main character in Gone with The Wind, but alhough skaters use and have used music from that movie, it does not necessarily mean that they have to portrait Scarlett excactly. Polina may interpret the music really well. Viktoria Volchova skated to the music from Gone With the Wind and she has blond hair, LOL.

Some quick updates from LPIDC

The Parsons FD is a Tango FD

McNamara & Carpenter are doing a Carmen FD from the Carmen Suite version.

Carreira and Ponomarenko are doing a Goran Bregović FD Ausencia and a couple other songs.

Grosul & Colucci are the tiniest kids I have seen doing West Side Story. They are adorable. They are also now with Shpilband, who was at the boards with them. Plus Grosul was announced from the Skating Club of Novi.

Thank you for this! Any chance of watching Gracie and/or Courtney?

Unfortunately I haven't found any links yet. I suppose the person who posted Polina's short might have also uploaded other ladies' programs but, as with this one, you have to have a direct link to the video in order to see it.

From what I've read audience liked programs from both girls, especially Courtney. Gracie had problems with landing her 3Lz-3T, both in the program and during warm-up.

Thank you, dorispulaski. Asian themes usually suit asian skaters well. Their last FD was something totally different, though - I am looking forward to them trying to bring it in the new FD. Tobias/Thacenko's FD choice became known long ago, but thanks for reminding.
