2015-2016 Programs by Discipline

Those jumps so close to the boards :hopelessness:. Didn't they learn from last season??

Love the costume. Sure it's a little too glittery in the front but I love the sexy open back with the long, asymmetrical skirt.

I like the program choreographically, and it seems like Gracie was halfway there on selling it. Decent effort for a summer competition. But seriously, something needs to be done about where her jumps are done in the rink.

just watched Gracie, LOVE:love::o: agree with all your opinion. now I am going to watch it a few more times.
Also, Kaetlyn Osmond is skating to a TANGO long program.

TSL has posted Jason's, Gracie's, Polina's, Mariah's, Courtney's, and Karen's SPs. (Also Nathan's, but it's obviously not a new program for the season).

I said this already in another thread, but Karen's spiral is such a wow moment. The music overwhelms her throughout almost the entire program, but that spiral shows how great this program COULD be if she could live up to it.

Courtney's SP suits her well, but nothing about it really stands out to me at this point.

Sooooo many shades of Riverdance in Mariah's. She seemed to get tired by the end, but I think it'll be a great vehicle for her as the season progresses.

I'm lukewarm about Gracie's SP. I appreciate the effort on the choreo, but I feel like it still lacks emotional investment. The little we can see of her face seems still, not inexpressive; but it's like... detached. I hope she will work on it, it's not the kind of program you skate with a poker face.
And why does she still jumps in the boards ?!?! Not just the combo but every jump!!
I also have mixed feelings about the skirt. Finding the asymetry a bit awkward. Or maybe it's the length, it almost looks like an ice dancing dress.

On the other hand, I really enjoy the spirit of Jason's SP. But the quad is so far...... :hopelessness:

^^ Mariah is a big fan of irish flute.
If you can pull off single's moves in an ice dance dress, it is a big plus.
EDIT: copy paste my very primitive impression of other lovely ladies to here.
Gracie: I have a gut feeling that Gracie's program will look much better, if it is from judges side and better music sound recording (not like this fancam). Many details and nuances in this program to appreciate. I like how she flares her long skirt(like Patrick plays with her tuxedo)she actually properly utilized that long skirt.also how she holds and controls and varies her speed to reflex the music. And many many other great stuff!!
Karen: Karen used an unusual step sequence pattern, Also her loop and 2a jump are timed to the music phrase, but she didnot get it right this time(possibly some spin ideas as well). it could be impactful just like her spiral.

I don't think this program will ever have an emotional oomph. Although that would be nice to see. I'm not sure I've ever seen Polina emotionally invested in a program yet.
I disagree with that, of course. Her Peer Gynt at the Olympics was the first time I saw her skate, and the expressiveness and openness of that performance made me an instant fan. I also think she put a lot of heart in her Tinkerbell program last season and skated like it should be skated. But to each his own.

Can't believe Gracie Wagnered the 3Lz. No underrotated and double footed landings! That's Ashley's signature move. 3T also...just no.

Gracie twizzles in both directions, lovely. Unclear edge on the flip (I'll leave edge calls to everybody else, so while it looks like ! to me, I'll defer to everybody else saying it was an e because it probably was). Excellent edge work. Maybe it's a Frank trademark to have skaters with really well-developed basic skating. Maybe it's also why Polina is also starting to show better basic skating, since she trains with Frank (occasionally) and David Glynn (what a hot dad) trained under Frank in his competitive days.

Let's talk costume. It's horrid. Don't use this dress. It creates many lines. Too many. Too much going on and it's not making the program pleasing to watch. In fact I think I spent more time trying to ignore the horrid dress than appreciating the program.

I want one of the Americans to step it up. I'm hoping Ashley will (favorite out of the current americans) but whoever goes out there and skates so well that she can't be ignored is the one who deserves to be given the chance to take it across the line.

Hope you give your heart all season, Gracie. So far this program is a little boring, but I believe Gracie can make her programs exciting and emotional. Soon. I hope.

I slightly agree with the dress. Like it's very pretty, don't get me wrong. But it's a little too much. Maybe it's the turtleneck part or the asymmetry of the skirt.

Maybe Gracie Wagnered the jumps because of how close she was to the boards. Just like if I feel too close to people when tumbling, I stop myself.

I don't think it's because it's slow that makes me not fully sold on it, i agree with others that she's executing her edges quite nicely. I think it's the fact that it's obvious (ETA: to me and some others) she's DOING the choreography, rather than PERFORMING the choreography.

As I said in her thread, it seems she's focused on executing the movements. Everything is textbook, but it lacks (for me) that emotional oomph that kind of program should provoke. But I think it's well-choreographed and it seems she got the technical goods, so my hope is that the movements will become more natural as the season goes on.

I completely agree but honestly it's too early to judge a program in terms of emotions, nuances, interpretation etc. The more you skate the better it becomes. I'm not a fan of the Moonlight Sonata. I'm not sure she is the best skater for this music either but from what I can see it's a big change from the last season's SP. I really didn't like that program and her skating to it. I thought it was mediocre at best. This one has potential.

...don't you have to tumble too close to people if you're doing cheer?
...?

Not shoulder-to shoulder close.......

Like maybe 1-2 people widths apart shoulder-to-shoulder.

Though for me, I have a claustraphobia with people tumbling around me when I deem "too close."

The choreo at the beginning seems interesting, like she is portraying a bird. Also, there are a lot of good moments. The costume is very nice, I only don't like the back line. The jumps weren't really there though and she was slow during the step sequence. The music cuts at the end don't seem good to me and she still need to sell the program. Overall, I think it has potential but she needs to sell it.

Yeah... Well, I like her arms, really. Better than her last FS.

That Nessun Dorma music is overpowering Karen Chen.

It is certainly a powerful piece but she was not in her best condition so I will give her benefit of the doubt. I like the ambition alot and can see potentials in the grandiose choreographic movements with good speed, flow, coverage she really goes full out. Particularly the ending with the spirals, the performance has some focus issues, may be more steadily build up rather than go all out like that. The feat is certainly operatic and can be positively infectious and awesome if delivered. Hope she can skate to its potential as the season goes by. It has potential to bring the house down by US nationals/GP series if she can stay healthy

Gracie's FS impressed me most so far out of the whole competition, but there's a few more program I'd still like to see. Not sure about her SP yet, maybe because I really hate the acoustics and just didn't like the music, so overall find the whole thing a bit frazzled (I keep worried she is going to hit the board and do a Mirai).

By the way has Polina even watched Gone with the Wind?

I only don't like the back line. .
The back line is the it thing this year for figure skating fashion it seem. Kaetlyn also used that style in her new SP.
EDIT:
LOVE the little fuzzy feathers on Gracie's dress. Cute Cute Cute. :o::love: Every skater girl should portray a bird and use feathers in their career at least once. :p

She's out of shape, I actually really don't like people skating to Firebird but giving Gracie more "fierce" programs are a huge upgrade from the princessy thing they used to go for. We'll see at Japan Open when it's had time to grow, they moved her 2A-3T to the second half like I said they should so the tech content is also upgraded this season

Definitely agree I can see the potential. She still has at least a month to work on it. I'm not sure if its just me but her dress doesn't seem to match the dramatic music, seems a bit underwhelming?

I really like Gracie´s LP. In general I don´t like Firebird´s music but in this program it works well, and usually figure skaters wear the most horrible and orange costumes when they are skating Firebird, I glad Gracie did not the same, I love her dress.

So in my opinion she has two beautiful programs, if things dont go well we can only blame her :p

Her programs with Lori were always beautiful, they just didn't suit her, her POTO program was actually one of the better vocal programs from last season but it was a bad fit for her
