2015-2016 Programs by Discipline

Yeah, I thought...does she mean Rickie Lee Jones? I never heard of Ricki Lee or her song either - can't say I like it much. I fear this program might be a little too reminiscent of Elena R.'s JLo program... :disapp: Hopefully it's more 16 Tons and not too much Ricki.

Hey I loved Elena R. JLo program and I liked this song by Ricki Lee upon hearing it. I hope its more Lee than 16 ton  guess I'm in the minority :drama:

The ladies LP from Glacier Falls 2105 is now up on IN. Polina Edmunds is a lovely lady, but IMHO, she is completely wasted with the GWTW theme. Both her skating and the music are a bit one note, the program could be about anything, it lacks a point of view. They could easily change the music to either R&J or the pas de deux from Spartacus, make some choreographic adjustments to suit and her LP would be an absolute hit. She has the SS to pull it off. As it is, the program itself is too repetitive and flat.

Your points are clear and insightful. I wonder if Polina and her team are considering the impact their musical selection has on judges and the audience after having debuted the program. Sometimes you can't tell until you skate it. Maybe later on during the season they'll find a way to make it work for her.

Polina might do well with Romantic/Post Romantic era music - Tchaikovsky and something pop/rock like Ashley did in the Olympic season.

Polina could probably portray an excellent Clara (Nutcracker Ballet) - she's got elegant, neat, clean skating with balletic lines. She needs to work on where she places her arms because well, there's always something to work on. The Nutcracker could work for her if Polina & her team work on the packaging - it's a coming of age story, and in many versions of The Nutcracker, Clara is an adult during the dream sequences.

Actually, I would love to see that! It would be especially good for Polina because Clara is (correct me if I'm wrong) a younger teenager (maybe 14) growing into a mature young lady. Even though Polina is a little older than that, it's a well-matched role age wise, and she can portray a younger character without it coming off as juniorish (well, it could, if they didn't do it right, but not like some of her other stuff).

However, I wouldn't write off GWTW just yet. It's her first competition, the crowd was being loud and likely distracting her, and she can't possibly have had that program for more than two months. It's pretty likely that it will develop artistically as the season goes on. Comparison: does anyone realistically expect a first-season pair team to win a world medal? No, they don't, because it almost never happens. So you can't expect a skater to compete an entirely new program to its full potential in their first competition. If all else fails, she can switch programs with Liza and go back to Peer Gynt. :laugh2:

No, actually, let's not. I highly doubt Liza would be able to pull off that program.

Wow. You went 90 years into the future?! ;) Jk

I'm not sure if I've missed it, but do we know anything about Denis Ten's programs? I'm hoping he keeps Caruso.

I totally agree. For one, I just don't think GWTW is that interesting musically and I don't see how it facilitates the character playing that team Polina is supposedly aiming for. I also think she can do wonderfully with something classical, preferably from a ballet as it will make good use of her dancer-like style and musicality, and it will come naturally for her and be more accessible to the audience. She already did wonderfully with a Romantic piece like Peer Gynt from 2 yrs ago IMO, and with the improved maturity, refinement and power, if she skates to something in that vein I can only imagine it will be better.

Obviously this is just filler till they get to Olympics ;)

I agree with this. I love the music in the movie but I don't think is such interesting piece of music to skate. Maybe that's why I never liked a GWTW program so far. Maybe Anna Rechnio SP in 1998  but it was quite different, the music version as well.

Polina's GWTW when I first saw via TSL short clip, I thought it was flat and one note, then I watched it on IN at its full version, I like it and actually, a little touched. Polina showed noticeable effort in that performance she is acting the role (although she is still kinda too soft)! I will reserve my opinion until its been further developed and performed in more competitions. Her choreographer Rudy Galindo definitely registered with me now.:o:

The thing is, I think Polina is not even trying to portray Scarlett exactly as she was in the book or movie. Even from her interview it seemed they have made the program to be more about a young carefree girl who is forced to mature quckly while experiencing the horrors of war. And that's exactly what Polina is trying to portray in her FS. It's just that other aspects of Scarlett's personality are not really touched in this program. As for the choreography, it still seems a bit too empty to me, and I agree with others who are saying that the music itself is not very interesting, it works only as an accompaniment to the great movie where the actors, the successful screen adaption and everything else makes up for the somewhat bland music.

Ivan Righini's SP has been updated (and the FS is now blank) - I guess he dumped the Jeff Buttle programs?

“Nessun Dorma” – da “Turandot” di Giacomo Puccini – tenore: Paul Potts (Choreo: Ivan Righini, Rostislav Sinicyn)

Meh...what are we up to now, 4 Nessun Dorma programs just from the guys?

Well better he dump Buttle's programs before the man calls him out for mangling his choreo. ;)

And the waltz will go on!

Isabella Tobias and Ilya Tkachenko - SD and FD
Lorraine McNamara and Quinn Carpenter - SD and FD
Brother and sister Parsons - SD

The SD of Isabella and Ilya is really cute, I love it.

SD of Madison and Zach min 42 http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x3...2015-08-09-01-22-58-2015-08-09-03-51-22_sport and Paul/Islam at 1:13:50

I think Madison and Zack have a very beautiful program but that is a waltz?
About the program of P/I I am not sure, the music is boring for me.

As long as they respect the tempo, waltz rhythm&style for the pattern they can choose any style and music. Not enthusiastic about it myself (I'm too conservative maybe) but these are the rules.

I naively believed that after the POTO-gate of last season, we won't be seeing any for a while... :laugh2: How wrong I was.

Am I unduly biased because K&P is one of my favorite ice dance teams of all time, or is Anthony Ponomerenko as good as I think he is? This kid can dance!
