The wow is the jumps, so I hope he can hit them consistently cause there isn't a whole lot in between.
Thanks for the link. My opinion is the same as you.

This is my face whenever I see he does he move like scratching his armpit  I mean seriously who choreographed that?? such a bad choreography and interpretation. I can't use other words.

I wouldn't say that there isn't a whole lot in between the elements. He definitely emoted well (at least for the SP for this particular competition) and has upped the choreography, which I think was well executed. He still needs to work on his skating skills and speed to be up to par with the rest of the competition, but overall it has definitely improved. What I will say is that there isn't a whole lot going on between jumps in last season's LP. Should he keep it as well, it will be interesting to see what he does with it.

I think so too. Perhaps there weren't much transitions and step sequence wasn't what we can see from some other skaters, but he had excellent energy and moved well, like the music demanded. It felt good to watch him. Not and "omg he pulled me through the screen onto the ice" but an entertaining performance nonetheless.

I too enjoyed the performance and I agree he has improved in his basics and in performing. But that said (as you pointed out Moria), compared to the senior men he will be facing this season (and even some of the juniors who will be debuting this season), there isn't a whole lot in that SP other than the huge jumps. That's not a terrible strategy IF he can do that jump layout consistently. That was what he faced in juniors -- when he hit the jumps, he ended up well (see JGPF 2014; Jr. Worlds 2015) but other times when the jumps failed him, it really cost him cause he didn't have much else to fall back on.

I like this kid though. He seems to be a hard worker and I look forward to seeing how he does on the GP. If he can get 50+ (90+ FS) he will be on any GP podium even if he only gets 35 PCS or something like that.

^^ and not to mention the score they gave him was quite generous already. If it were me, his first spin combo should get negative GOE because he traveled too much. And the levels he got don't look that convincing.
Of course if he lands his jumps always he will get good score base on BV, but not many of his elements should get GOE if judge correctly. His axel is still not that good, till on the air too, landing not secure.
Yes he has improved, but compare to other skaters same age, his SS is below them quite a long way. I'd say his SS is around a kid 13-14 years old.
But overall the 4lz3t is nice.

I guess they are playing up to his strength rather than forcing him to be an "artist", and it's working well for him as we can see

Of course he will be quite hammered on PCS when he will go head to head with Chan and Hanyu in seniors, but if he will nail his quads he can set good results

Not only with the top men, I mean look at all the men in senior I can hardly think of any men having weak SS as Boyang.
Even Nam isn't that bad.

But of course, if Boyang lands his quads consistently, his PCS will be relatively okay for his level, because judges love consistency and reward consistency maybe more than quality.

Boyang is doing a 4LZ+3T that no other human being has ever done in this universe. I will give him some slack if there is no transitions before that jumping pass, other than that there are plenty of transitions in between all his tech elements, including steps in front his 4T that late in this problem. In terms of skating skills, he certainly can improve and still lacks a lot. Style, could be more polished as well, but he indeed performed a hell out of that program. All this happened at high altitude. Respect!

This is probably not the best thread to ask this, but hypothetically a program with a layout like 4Lz 4Lz3t 4T, 4T3t, 4S 3a1lo3S, 3a, 3lz. Is it even possible to beat? I'm not sure if I'm zayaking if another 4S is put in (can you only repeat two different quads or does it not matter?). Just throwing it out there.

I get confused on this too, but I think you can only repeat two jumps of 3revs or more (doubles are different). So the two quads are ok, but the second 3T and the second 3A would Zayak.

I have seen one other skater do 4lz-3t, but it was in practice and not competition. It will definitely be a major achievement if Boyang can get that ratified in an ISU competition.

If he were to do 4lz, 4lz-3t, 4s, 4t, 4t-2t, 3a-2t, 3lz-1/2lo-3s, 3f or something along those lines then it would be ok under ijs. That zayak rule is really annoying...
