2017 Jr Worlds Mens FS

He'll need them and his 4T and 4F. I'm guessing he gets the SA slot. He should have enough for two already though.

Yeah, he'll easily be in the top 24 (I think someone said #11) with that score.

Isn't it that every Junior World champion is guaranteed for two GP spots if I wasn't mistaken?

If I am not wrong, just 1? Not 2? :scratch2: But if they got into top world standing or season's best high enough they could get 2. Samohin got 2, Shoma got 2. Even Boyang got 2. He was not 1st.

I thought Boyang's assignment to Cup of China beside NHK was a host pick, but I could be wrong.

Yeah, but Vincent could get SA host pick too, no? He's been skating both junior for a while and senior too, so I assume he would have had enough points to be on the world standing high enough? If not, that 259 score should definitely be on the top 24 of season's best. He should get 2 at the very least?

Glad to see no one melted down in the free. Congrats to the medalists!

If Brown wants to be in Olympics 2018, it would serve him well to get 3 spots because I don't he'll get in if US has only 2 spots.

The point here - there were several clean skates, with quads, and despite Aliev's seemingly warm personality and beautiful choices of music - it should not have given him enough advantage to make up for the tech mistakes he made. He almost fell on the quad, and his second hand 3-1-3 had a huge prerotation on the second jump. Also, why choosing slow lyrical music for both programs? His upper body expression is nice, but kneeswork/edges/speed are not by any means superior to Cha and Petrov, while spin-wise he is weaker. Just because female fans here love this kind of music/type of men it should not give him higher comps.

Samarin was not perfect on SP and he is in fact weaker in comp factor than Aliev, however his programs were well suited to him (just as Ali's) and he did his LP clean with 2 quads. That should have made enough difference against Ali's one failed quad.

Cha is better than both top Russians in terms of spead/choreo/transitions; he is also at least as good as a performer. Again, they put him down for the fall, but he still had another clean quad (unlike Aliev who had none), and underrotation (which was better than Aliev's prerotation), and his comps should be about the same as Aliev if not higher both now and in SP.

With Petrov - I honestly don't understand the scoring. His SP was superior in terms of both cleaness and interpretation; still they put him only on the fourth place. In LP he showed a clean quad and the rest of elements, still his PCS are for some reason much lower than Aliev, although Petrov has better SS.

Anyway, glad there was at least an unquastonable winner - Congrats all on great skates, and Vincent on gold!

What I originally meant is I wonder whether every JWC would get two senior GP spots automatically regardless of being or not within top 24 in Worlds' standing. I see your point, but I don't think Zhou will be assigned to SA anyway as Nathan Chen, the reigning National champion will probably be there. Vincent is the current US silver medalist, so I can't hardly imagine USFSA would let him with only one GP spot if his total score today weren't sufficient for top 24 or even if JWC were only guaranteed for one GP spot. He has a nice start as senior next season anyway. :)

He would get 2 spots trust me
The USFS will make it work (joking aside even without USFS his season best and standing should be enough for 2) ;) But iirc by rights they should only get 1. I don't remember well though, don't take my word for it :slink:

??? No way. Not even close.

But why couldn't both Nathan and Vincent be at SA.

Nathan would be in SA because expectedly he will be top 6 at worlds. Vincent is there as host pick.

ITA. And I was in awe of the way he looked absolutely unfazed after that mistake. I also found Brian's reaction to his score interesting: pitied that he missed the podium, but he quickly shrugged off as someone who's so been there. Jun can only soar higher :console:.

What it has done for Mr Cha is given him a name. He's now a serious threat and a player for next season. And that is nothing to sneeze at!

Really, he's my discovery of Junior Worlds so far. I'm a new fan!

Because assigning them to SA together could increase more chance to their non-compatriot rivals and decrease their chance to advance to GPF together. The rivalries between Nathan and Vincent can garner more locals though, but next season is an Olympic season, so every move should be carefully done. Nathan will be in SA because he is first of all, a National US Champion.

Vincent will get 2 GP events next year. He's US #2 right now.
I think without 3 spots for Olympics, it will be impossible for a host of them, and slim chance for Brown, Farris, Rippon, and Aaron.

I see, you are talking from a strategic point of view. If Vincent and Nathan are in the same event, then there is one less GP event where Vincent can block non-US skaters from placing higher.

So Vincent would need to get someone to host him if he does not get 2 assignments automatically.
