2017 Worlds Free Dance

Yeah I have a feeling Weaver & Poje will get to skate the FD round but we will see. I would love to see an Olympic medal here, since it certainly wont happen in the individual competition, as worlds here and clearly winning the bronze on the actual ice but losing it anyway to the Shibutanis and almost to Bobrova & Soloviev (and in fact losing to them in the FD part) proves emphatically for anyone who had doubts. So their only chance is in the Team Event, and I really hope they get that chance. And depending who is in the final round they could be non hurt at all by using Weaver & Poje. Even if the Italians and Russians are there W&P have a good shot to beat both Italian and Russian #1 btw, although it isnt a sure thing of course as it would be for V&M. There is still reason to have faith in them. I dont think the Team Event will come down to 1 or 2 points anyway though, I think it will wind up last time, with 3 teams that look pretty close going in, but by the end gold, silver, bronze will each be seperated by a good 6-8 points anyway. So I cant imagine using W&P will cost them at all, even if they lost a point or two possibly.

It all depends on V&M though. If they want to do both they will, if they want a breather W&P get a go. V&M totally will determine it. Last time they were gung ho to do both, so who knows if they will be again. They are older now.

Actually it'll come down to Patrick Chan even more. I believe the order of events is the same as last time, with pairs then men then dance then ladies. The D/R definitely won't do both with their individual so close and last time Patrick didn't want to either for the same reason. You can only use two in two events IIRC. So if Chan decides to skate both, they can either sub dance or ladies. If he doesn't want to do both, then V/M are skating the whole team event.

It would've been great for p/c to win but sd lead was too great.

B/S were so bad in short dance and they need to fix via new coach who doesn't say everyone hates Russians now -it's just unproductive with no value.

Or V/M could opt out of the whole team event and give the job to W/P. They did end up feeling that it affected them negatively in Sochi so if the goal is ID gold they might sacrifice a chance at a team medal.

I know it could come off as truism but did you notice that on occasion when Virtue / Moir make error in 80% of cases it is Scott, not Tessa?

Bar two obvious errors (one minor on twizzle, and that almost-fall on transition) I also noticed a couple of slips from Scott during 2nd Step Sequence.

I always had impression that Tessa is technically better than Scott, her edges are also often deeper. In the past - let's say till 2009 during parts of the programs it looked that it's Tessa who's leading Scott, not the other way around.

Scott is otherwise great Ice Dancer but Tessa is in her own class.

Something Bereznaya said about their Olympic program. They wanted to do Chaplin for Olympics and ended up doing a romantic number on the advice of their coaches even though they were no longer a couple. She was annoyed and described it as a love carrot for the judges.

V/M and P/C have the same base value. PCS (slightly) higher for P/C

One thing that surprised me : Scott skating seemed more flat than usual after the fall... I guess I can be distracting but you could really notice it. I know they have that fire to win but they shouldn't let it get your head like that... for what it's worth I wouldn't have gave them 116 to be honest, if it were ANY other team, this forum would have gone on fire ^^

I felt this too but actually I was super impressed with Tessa after he fell- it was clear she did see it, but other than about one second where I suspect she was simply trying to ascertain that he wasn't hurt, from her facial expression and her skating you would literally never have known that it happened, serene perfect smile stayed on her face, not the slightest other bobble. To me it did contrast with Hubble/Donohue where they honestly both deflated after his fall (though admittedly the situations aren't 100% comparable for several reasons). Part of being a real performer to me is the ability to 100% commit and do what Tessa did.

Gutted for Madi and Zach, but I'm truly impressed with their growth these past two seasons. In 2015, they were so close to being overtaken by Hawayek/Baker that USFS gave 4CC to H/B instead of them. This year, if not for a freak accident, they had a real shot at being world medalists. That's nothing to be ashamed of, and it proves they have the goods to be competitive at the very highest level. I hope they can put this behind them and get a pair of strong programs for the Olympic year - I think they'll slay the rhumba :cheer:

On the pleasant side of today's surprises, I'm so happy for Kaitlyn and Andrew! I don't think anyone saw them landing in 4th, and so close to bronze, too! Hopefully this puts them back in the conversation for what I'm assuming will be their final season.

I was really impressed with Tessa too ! She performed really well, and though i HATE to cut the team in half when I talk about performance, I do it here because you could felt that she was a bit carrying him and usually, it never happens with them, so I was surprised... I mean they fell before (worst than that) but the fear of losing the title must have done that to Scott.

Heartbroken about H/D... look at ther PCS, they had it, they are litterally in the race for that olympic bronze. I am so annoyed arghhhhhh

I am not sure Morozov has captured who they are or rather been able to define who they are and I am not sure he is an ice dance coach anyways plus, which is wrong to worry about, I am worried he may want to snare Kaitlyn. His track record isn't great and that type of drama is not required. They showed some practices I hate the way he eyes her like some kind of prey. It looks like he is eying her more than for her technique.

Oh lord, I never would have believed I'd be defending Morozov in a post but he's currently married. We do admittedly have reason to believe he'd go after a student but to my knowledge we don't actually have credible reason to believe he's an adulterer/cheater. If he and Davankova divorce, we can talk.

In all total seriousness too Katelyn is quite old for him. He's always dated students in their teens and early 20's, never older, and the wife I'm talking about is still all of 18 years old.

As I've been predicting for months, huge push for B/S that will only go bigger next season. It's impossible for Russia not to have an ice dance team in the medal conversation at the Olympics.

Russian couple had some unintentionally messy moves i.e. flying with pasty arms like an upside down sea anemone. Props to hitting difficult positions, but it looks a bit spooky, and not in a good way.

I think Bobrova is often sloppy. Some of her upper body movements when not in hold were hillarious and not in a good type of hillarious. It's like she completely lost control over her torso and arms. But I have to give them credit for that upside down lift, hands down ... the most impressive and memorable one today.

Also there was more attack & speed during Four Seasons part than at the Europeans.

I still think they were propped up today, I'd have them in FD behind C/L & W/P and overall behind C/L too.

Besides, if you had Andrew Poje to stare at and sit the lap of and cuddle would you really be interested in Morozov? Poje was kissing her neck after the FD today. How could Morozov compete with that?

If Patrick doesn't want to skate both Skate Canada would never try to force him. And everyone assumes Kevin. It might be Nam or someone else.

yes... and actually it doesn't really matter much... because if you have patrick in the SP

china and japan most likely disappear and in the free, USA (we can assume it could be nathan winning this portion) RuS (not sure it's officially a win over any canadian) so there's not much to lose in the Free program... as either it would be a skater who can beat Patrick or any canadian or a skater who is reachable for Patrick or any canadian.

There is Nam... There is Nic... THere is Kevin and i have a wild card to offer : Keegan Messing. I think his new 4lz combo is getting out for the fall.

The lift was cool today. I was impressed with it. Not that I'm very knowledgeable about ice dance.

I actually liked B/S's program as much and maybe more than the top teams in terms of choreography.

C/L is my cup of tea though

Scott fell, right? In element or not , a fall counts for a fall, and there is a mandatory deduction of 1 point. Not deduction for Scott though.

again : it looked like a balance check with the hand... i was sure he wouldn't get a deduction for that...

I know it would never, ever happen but.. I'd probably cry like a baby if it was Balde. Like big messy Katelyn Weaver ugly crying tears complete with tissues. I promise not to Kovtun any of them.

P&C have never been a top SD team really. They havent even won the SD at the Europeans yet in their 3 wins, that is freaking amazing considering all the other best teams are really Canadian and American today, with C&L only bit contenders since their 2014 world title and B&S these days only bit contenders too for the most part.

It is the first time it is starting to cost them though, even costing them a world title now. Maybe that will be incentive to finally improve their always relatively speaking mediocre (for such a top team) short dances.

They did, in 2015.
