2018 Worlds Ladies FS

A CHOICE EVEN!!! Hey, I pick Pada 2, because like most Canadian Mounties, you are both honourable and a gentleman! Sooo excited here to see you in Red Serge. Hey, why not enjoy some Poutin and a cold Canadian brew, while you're at it. We'll have you moving to Montreal before you can say, ...can- you-canoe, 6 times in a row!

Thanks Sam, ...Kaetlyn, and the Maple Leaf forever!

Cheers,

Osmondlooking4backtobackgold (my new handle) ;)

I don’t know how to create avatars though. I just save the images to my computer and then upload them in the avatar settings. Good luck with that and congrats to Kaetlyn. :dance3:

FTR: I certainly wasn’t rooting against Gabby. I was pulling for her :)

If Alina had withdrawn from Worlds, Russia would have lost their 3rd spot. It is an incredible burden on her, but the way thing was she couldn’t just say no. It was not like she was at a big risk of being injured if she competed (correct me if i am wrong), plenty of skaters have dealed with puberty in the middle of the season before. It is a bet with manageable risk that she and her team took. I do think under a better circumstance she should not have done it though.

It was so heartbreaking to watch her skate like that and I hope she has time to rest, adjusts with the changes in her programs and comea back stronger next season.

I don't think it was Alina's responsibility to keep three spots. If she wanted to, fine. But if she didn't feel up to competing, she should have withdrawn. I'm sure she will get another shot at a World title.

I'm reading backwards, as per usual.

No. Another shot at he worl title is very uncertain.
To start, because her coach chews the inside of her cheeks when Alina's high marks come out.
Because the field is very deep and the Russian battle must be merciless.
Because as much as she jumps she limps on crossovers, and that fragility goes together with her emotional, social, and, as I understand, economical fragility.

A girl that says "I brok a leg, then I broke an arm (or viceversa, I don't remember), but if I can get to rulsilts it will be worth it, for my parents".
She's frail.

To the point I seriously ponder the moral respondability an athlete has towards the competition he/she enters, and the morals behind bowing my jumps and giving Alina that title, if I were in a position not to have to worry about a decent life.

These programs of Loena are mindblowing. They stay with you. Just compare that to Maria Sotskova's snoozefest. I will never understand Clair de Lune and a grey costume. Talk about forgettable.

I think Maria Sotskova was underrated here actually (because of a couple underrotation calls that I disagree with). For me she deserved 3rd in the LP and maybe even overall too, as she had a clean SP. I will have to look at exactly what total score I would give to Kostner in comparison (Miyahara is 5th at best because she had underrotations that weren't called and her LP was quite robotic to me). Sotskova's Clair de Lune was not the most beautiful, but I do think she had an appealing gentle quality and immersion into the music, something that most everyone else in this competition lacked. Her refinement was certainly better than the American ladies, and we had people like Zagitova being gigantic messes in the LP.

No matter what we say, it’s not going to make any difference to them....They are Sore Losers

This is what you and others are doing. Thorough reasoning has been presented and you simply ignore it and name-call as an argument. You haven't said anything of value, there has been no scoring breakdown or discussion from you that details why you think the result was correct. The one person who responded to my request to provide concrete reasoning scored Osmond 9 points lower, in the LP alone, from where the judges had her (and didn't score Higuchi at all). Like I said before, debate the exact points the skaters deserved with a thorough analysis, or else your opinion is nothing more than empty shouting.

Ok, a few comments and opinions on the ladies FS that may have some on the forum wanting to hunt me down, but anyway:

Everyone is talking about how badly they feel for Zagitova's meltdown (and I concur), but I have to say, I feel more for the third Russian lady Konstantinova. Zagitova will undoubtedly get more chances, but will Konstantinova? This may well have been her one and only shot at worlds and she had a meltdown. And it's not like Canada sending Larkyn Austman — if you're sent by the Russian fed you're expected to perform whether you're an alternate or not. Poor girl.

And speaking of Zagitova, yes, I too felt terrible for her to have such a meltdown. But — her PCS were unfairly generous for that terrible skate. Not trying to kick her when she's down, but when the judges do that, it's unfair to the ladies who skated far, far better than she did and got worse, or similar PCS. I mean, honestly, better PCS than Tennell and Hendrickx, who both skated really, really well? The same identical score for performance execution as Tennell? Really? Really?! Just, no. And she was less than a point off of Higuchi's PCS. Absurd! Her PCS has been overly generous all season, but when she doesn't land the jumps all the cracks in her basic skating and in that program show like neon signs. There's a real problem in the judging of PCS — remedial classes for the judges are in order.

I don't usually ever broach the topic of weight on the forum, but Tursynbaeva's appearance concerned me. She looked so, so tiny and almost skeletal. I know she's always been small, but... Does anyone know anything? I'd be most relieved to be told it's just the way she's built.

I thought Sotskova looked like a million bucks. That silver/grey dress with her blond hair was trés chic.

I second that. Been thinkng the same the enire season.
May very well be the best russian figure skating costume in history.

Stanislava has been given many, many chances. Not the R. Fed's fault that she's been blowing them.

I don't follow juniors so am unfamiliar with her history. Still, sorry to see her blow it in this first major senior international.

I was away at a sports camp but check in. Some basic comments. Despite the love on this thread for Wakababy - too much imho and some hatred to Osmond the rightful and clear winner was the Canadian. Even if you don't like her style or ptrogram she has presence, amazing flower, power and speed and big and glorious jumps.

I have mixed feelings about Satoko Wakababy deserved a medal but I am not sure Satoko deserved a medal. The crucified Sotskova on R's and I think Satoko should have been penalized.

I am sad a bit for Kostner not ending probably her career on a high note. But she has been gifted with medal so many times. But she and Satoko despite being beautiful skaters really under performed. Satoko was given the benefit of the doubt too much in the fs. But her skating and program is beautiful - her jumps are a little too small and ur's too be really beautiful But she is so fluid and lyrical like Kwanesque.

I dislike the hatred towards Maria and Kaetlyn and yet Satoko seems to be treated much more with kid gloves. And the love for Wakababy is amazing. Let's not call it redemption though that is a bit much and way too overdramtaic. She earned, won and deserved the silver. The bronze well it was just a crap shoot. To the poster who said this was the worst competition that is far from the truth. Considering the number of triples and triple combos I would look for the year of sya 2006 and Meissner's win or some of the Witt years when there was some real weak skating.

Great job as expected from Bradie -t hough she did not do as well as I though she might do. Loena deserves a great round of applause. I have much empathy for Alina. I don't thinkit is an excuse all theevent she may ahve been involved with since the olympics. My fear is this eating issues and her increase in height so fast. That could really effect those jumps. Mirai was okay. Mariah also okay. Gabby was kind of blah and sad to see her struggle so much. USA is down to two girls yet Canada has three and only needs 2. I wonder if Skate Canada will really push alaine or some other skater for the third spot. As somone said Larkyn appears to be a lark. Two times in a row she did not qualify for the fs.

What you are calling "reasoning" is just arithmetic. It's based on false assumptions. Just because you did the arithmetic right, it doesn't mean your conclusions are valid. If you start with the wrong numbers, adding them up correctly doesn't give you the right sum.

In your world, anyone you want can get any result you want them to have, because you give them any value you want them to have on any element. In the real world, Katelyn Osmond won the ladies event at Worlds.

Just stop by to say that I am happy for Osmond. Finally, delivered when it mattered. Congratulations to her and her stans here. The rest,... I better stay away.

Well, she got to go to worlds, a chance many other, more deserving skaters did not get. This performance was expected out of her - It's not like it was a secret to the fed either. You reap what you sow, really.

You probably would be surprised, but I doubt that this will hurt her status at all. The last season she skated similarly poorly at junior worlds and in response her domestic scores skyrocketed. I assume now she'll be flirting with 75 PCS in Russian nationals etc. next season.

Actually, she has delivered on several occasions when it mattered, including her previous World and Olympic medals. Thanks for your congrats, whatif ;) Her Fans are def. excited and beyond thrilled for her! For the record, she has accomplished so much more than just one comp...

- Landed on every podium she competed in the past 2017-18 season
- The only current ladies skater to have medalled at the GPF, the OGs (twice), and World's, during the 2017-18 - talk about consistentcy in health/performance
- 3 Olympic medals, of every colours - the most of any current ladies single skater
- The 2018 World Champion and 2017 World Silver medalists
- Achieved a total score of 200 plus, in every competiton in years 2017 and 2018
- Ranked No. 1 in the World, as per ISU Rankings, March 2018

whatif, saying ''Finally'', is just such an understandment of what this young woman has achived, in particular since her return to skating and results the past 2 years which have been beyond...AMAZING!!! .

Just the view from where I sit.

Just read the Zagi interview and the line that struck me the most was "From all. I almost did not go to school this season." Seriously? A fifteen-year-old? That is NOT OK on any level.

I'm not sure about Russian education but at least in Finland, mandatory education should have ended for Zagitova a year ago.

Mm IIRC Russian education starts a year sooner but of course, I don't know the inner workings...

This is pretty common in the US too. Just about on any given day they’ll be a gaggle of skaters who do online/correspondence or a majority of their homework at the rink and only go to a few.if any classes at a traditional school. They’re not even Olympian’s...just maybe lucky enough to get beyond regionals one day to never be seen on TV because they are in the early groups.

In US home schooling is not rare, even for more typical children. In other countries it is, so no wonder people are confused.
