Samsonov got two senior GP spots without completing a single junior season and placing 7th at Junior Nationals. Had he been anyone else or with any other coach, he would have stayed in juniors and Mozalev and Gumennik would have got two spots each. Now even if Mozalev or Gumennik were selected as a substitute they have no US visa because they were not included in the list of those who went to Uzbekistan to get theirs. Samsonov OTOH got a visa he doesn't need except for personal use. Ever since Samsonov was appointed the saviour of Russian men's skating at age 13 because he landed a quad lutz, he seems to be treated like he is in a league of his own without actually doing anything to live up to it, even if it's through no fault of his own. RusFed wants to wait till he maybe one day gets over his health problems and finally saves Russian men's skating
