Going to be interesting if the same people here who went after Nyman and Savchenko tried to partner up will have the same energy with this new partnership.
It's not confirmed that they're partnered. I think I saw Haley Beavers' name on a recent competition list, paired with someone else.

Very interesting y’all. I was asking Sylvia Unseen about several of my less well known favorite men. Ben Jalovick has begun skating pairs. Partner is unconfirmed. Based in Colorado (did anyone confirm if Sappenfield is still coaching or not?)

Ben has been training pairs skills for over two years now;

I believe he started with Dalilah, but I haven't seen any mention of her camp for about a year (not that Ben posts all that much).

I think (based only on comments in his IG section and I could be completely wrong) that now he may be training with Pauline Oxanal, who I don't know, but is evidently a Swiss pairs skater.

Well, I'll be. I guess I am the last to know. Are they competing for Switzerland or the US?

I don’t know, I didn’t even realize that he was serious about the training (despite the IG). She is in the comments talking about doing a death spiral, so that’s where my guess comes from.

Since being moved to this new section, this thread doesn't seem to be very active. :(

There's a lot going on in the skating world, and some recent event news for U.S. pairs at Cup of Colorado:

Interesting new pairings. Of course, Danny and Nica used to be partnered together in juniors and a few seasons in seniors before they split. Danny recently paired with Grace Hanns after parting with Sasha Fakhroutdinov.

Hoping the best in their continued development for these two new teams. 🌟

Also, thanks @el henry for sharing Ben J's training clips. Kudos to Ben for all the work and dedication he's putting in. 👍

There isn’t a whole lot to talk about unfortunately. Both Philly and Cranberry pairs were both cancelled. Which is very unfortunate as most of these pairs need all the competitions they can get under their belts. There are few NQS comps for pairs too.

^^ There is still U.S. pairs happenings to discuss though, even beyond summer events. I think this thread isn't frequented as much generally, because it's more necessary to remember to search for it off the main page in Edge. It's certainly a good idea to have a dedicated section for specific countries' national news. In part though, I think it's about people remembering to look for this relatively new section. Also, there are new pairings who haven't been seen much, and sadly better known veteran teams who are no longer competing.

What's going on truthfully with Danny O'Shea? Is he working in Colorado moreso as a pairs coaching assistant? Or, has he found a new partner? Is Jessica Calalang still interested in competing? Or, has she decided to stop looking for a new partner?

Have Knierim/ Frazier's new season program selections been revealed yet? K/F should certainly win both of their GPs, which is an extremely unusual expectation. What about the eventual GPF showdown between K/F, Miura/Kihara, and Peng/Jin? Some fans appear to be mourning that Russian teams won't be competing. Others are bemoaning the Canadian pairs retirements, and that discipline's continuing challenges due to a recent split, and a prospective new partnership not launching as anticipated.

Also @moonvine, I don't readily pick up on what NQS stands for? "New qualifying ..." ?

Yes, this is a transitional phase for pairs generally, and for U.S. pairs in particular, as a result of retirements and splits. But there's still interesting transitional phase happenings to discuss. Has anyone attended any of the summer pairs events that have occurred to date?

Here’s something to discuss. Are there are any unattached US pairs ladies who might be a good match for Trennt Michaud?

It’s not unknown for US ladies to find partners in Canada (example: Deanna Stellato)

Well I went so far as to ask Sonia’s mother about Danny. Not sure what else I can do. I don’t know about Jessica. It does seem late to be pairing up at this point but what do I know?

NQS is National Qualifying Series, which has replaced Regionals. NQS is all these small summer comps (such as Cranberry Open) and while there are plenty for singles, there just aren’t all that many for pairs.

The next NQS pairs event is in Houston next month if I’m reading this correctly. https://figureskatersonline.com/news/mec-category/national-qualifying-series-events/

By the way I look at this section daily FWIW.

^^ Yeah thanks @moonvine. I don't get to check here everyday. There don't tend to be a lot of posts. I appreciate your contributions. 👍

Thanks for explaining the NQS acronym meaning. Yes, I believe there are some things unfolding, but since the pandemic a lot of things are different. I am happy that K/F are returning. I am going to miss seeing other veteran teams. I'm especially sorry for how the pandemic took away Calalang/Johnson's momentum, and they were never able to get it back fully, especially after the 2021 bad luck scenario which befell them. :(

As well, the bad luck for Chelsea and Danny, and then Ash/Tim's World's fp mishap. I still believe that Ash's ankle injury wasn't fully healed. Not having a rest day between programs further hampered her ability to be full strength, IMO.

Anyway, good luck to all the skaters for the new season.

Yes, even Kaitlin Weaver is from Texas. She partnered with Andrew Poje as a junior ice dance competitor formerly representing the U.S. But then, conversely, Tanith Belbin was a Canadian skater prior to partnering with Ben Agosto. Christina Carriera is also Canadian, I believe.

Marissa Castelli partnered with Mervin Tran the season after he had returned to representing Canada (with N.Purich), in the aftermath of his unfortunate split with N. Takahashi, post their unexpected 2012 World bronze win. However, Castelli preferred continuing to represent the U.S. Castelli/Tran were a talented team, but they did not have good luck.

I hope Trennt finds someone good soon. If he has to expand where he looks that will provide more opportunities, but also citizenship challenges. In terms of where Trennt is currently at in his career, it might be helpful if he could find a young skater who is experienced in pairs. Perhaps a Russian pairs skater looking for a new partner??

Deanna Stellato matching up so well and relatively quickly with Maxime Deschamps was fortuitous, post her split with injured Nate B. Maxime had been planning to pair with an Asian partner(a South Korean skater? I don't recall exactly). I'm sure he was stoked when things quickly transpired with Deanna, and he was able to continue representing his home country! ☘️🇨🇦

I'm glad to see that K/F have finally announced their new programs:

Alexa Knierim & Brandon Frazier USA
SP: “Separate Ways” by Journey, choreo. by Shae-Lynn Bourne
FS: “Sign of the Times” by Harry Styles, choreo. by John Kerr & Sinead Kerr

John Kerr did great things for James/Cipres, with input by other members of their coaching team. And I enjoyed the fp that Sinead and John did together for Liu/O'Shea last season. So, I'm eager to see what they do for K/F. Will K/ F have grown and evolved over these past months and be challenged to grow in new ways this season?

I'm also happy to see K/F working with Shae Lynn, which was previously announced. Now we know the music. Shae Lynn had been working on a SP for James Cipres two years ago that obviously came to nought when they had to retire. So bring it on now for K/F Shae!!! 🍿

On the latest episode of TSL , Dave Lease rightly complains about U.S. figure skating failing to provide any kind of interesting p.r. or forward-thinking coverage of their skaters who will be competing this season. He feels the lack of advance p.r. around Cranberry Cup and Cranberry International is an excellent case in point. I agree that U.S. fed is missing opportunities to do much more. Creative and effective coverage during these building up weeks is very important to generate more buzz for the season.

Sadly, U.S. figure skating has always been lacking in creativity and outside-the-box thinking. They are too Mom-Pop, dated, and same-old, same-old in their thinking and in their non-existent approaches to rolling out pre-season p.r.

Of course, I shouldn't forget that Shae Lynn choreographed K/F's House of the Rising Sun sp last season! 🥰
