I wouldn't say it was cheap looking. But, I would say that it needs broken up a bit with something of a different colour. Even just a belt would do the trick.

Looks to me like they wanted to look her like a snake dancer

this is the problem I have with it. I think she wanted to be like a snake - one that could strike at anytime and is fearless, not like something out of a harem. I could be wrong about this, it just doesn't work for me.

The audience gasping at Kaori's jumps really says it all (an internet rumour says they gave tickets to sports science students so they're not all the most educated on skating) and that really shows the quality of Kaori. She really performed this program!
