She smiled when waving to the camera, but for the rest of the time you could see she is deeply disappointed.

Kaori was determined to get both parts of the combination done - she was absolutely not going to fall on the flip if she could help it. Not her best skate - everyone except Mone I think seems to have been affected by nerves. I am always astonished by how much ice she covers on one foot on the exit from her 2A. May she have the skate she wants in the free!

Really weak competition,but thanks to that Free is more interesting.

Wish Kaori would commit a little more to the "tango-esque" moves. She could do so much more than the little half-hearted kicks and stomps. Her speed is intoxicating. Not her best, but she's a strong free skater. Sheesh. 4th.

Both Tim and Mark agreed that Amber won the practice sessions here and judges do watch practices, so I see absolutely no problem with Amber in first. She works so hard and her improvements this season have been immense given her history.

This was not a good competition. The junior girls were better. Chiba should be in first as she was the only one that even skated clean and she has good components. It’ll come down to the free skate.

I wish the SP was today of a tad bit higher quality but the results after the SP make for a less predictable outcome overall I think.

Well, that was interesting. I'm happy the panel did no favors, just called it as they saw it. I saw it the same way.

The BV of that triple axel really salvaged this for Amber. Barely. But enough in an event in which everyone had some error or other.
