Wow, how is isabeau only 3rd? Did she get docked levels on spins? Was she not given high PCS? I'm very surprised. I thought that isabeau would have to completely tank if she wouldn't get the gold here.
She was second after the SP remember, and then Sarah (at third) appears to have come back strongly. Some skaters are slow to get started in the season, a good reason to do challengers and small competitions to 'warm up'. Though I admit, as a lifelong and massive fan of Victor Borge I have problems with taking anything with Liebesträume seriously and will spend the entire season hearing like "a cup of questionable coffee" about the 3 minute mark  and other odd lines in my head...

Sarah skated well though her dress is very... well, pretty but oh so what we have seen a hundred times before to this workhorse.

Sarah turns 18 this year, so I think she has aged out. Out of curiosity, why would she want to go back to Juniors anyway? She just beat the World Silver Medalist in this competition.
Singles skaters are eligible for Juniors until they are 19, so if she turns 18 this year she can still compete in Juniors. What I was thinking about was the JGP and Junior Worlds. If she doesn't get the TBD senior GP host spot at Skate America, it would be worth doing the JGP and trying for a spot at Junior Worlds because that would give her valuable experience. She would still be able to compete in senior international events as well - it is just the GP where you cannot do both Juniors and Seniors.

Sarah did so well but let's be kind and not over hyping her from that one early season challenger. This happens pretty much every season when a relatively newcomer makes a good outing and it's not necessarily fair to the skaters to being put under so much pressure, so quickly. I wish Sarah a great season !

Sarah is not a newcomer. She has never been a Federation favorite. So hopefully she will get some international assignments.

Let's be honest here. Sarah should get the host spot for Skate America because basically she only one that does not have a GP spot yet. Everybody else who is deserving has at least one GP spot and most of the top US Ladies have 2 GP each. Sarah had good Nationals last season and was 4th and just won here so it like she has not earned the spot. GP spots are valuable and should be used as tools for development of promising skaters. We should not give someone a spot just because the federation feels sorry for someone or because they they think someone might bring greater attendance to event. With all of Isabeau growing problems, Amber shaky nerves, Ava having major injuries, giving Sarah the experience of skating in major event might be good for her because she may have to be called upon to do and this is a good way to give her the experience she needs

Wow! Just saw the results of this. Levito only third, and checking the scores it seems like she doubled out on her combo in the short and in the free. And with another combo <.

Well, I have always been suspecting that Isabeau's technique is going to fail her in the end, but I've said that for three years now, and she had always surprised me. It's early days of the season, I'm sure she will do better!?

Great to see such a good result for Sarah and Elyce!

And also great to see that Ahsun Yun seems to be back in form!

Edit: Everhardt improved her best score from last season with almost 28 points!
Lin-Gracey +15 points
Levito -18 points
Yun +53 points!!!

Yeah, Sarah really showed that she wants to play.

This competition really showed how important it was for the American girls to show up early. I think this means that Sarah will be on top of the Replacement List now for the GPs. And Elyce is up there too. Great start for the underdogs of American Women skating.

Video of Sarah's Firebird FS - I will never not think of Gracie Gold and her "laying an egg pose" to this music, lol. Sarah is a great technician and I hope to see her develop her performance of this program throughout the season. If she's clean at Nationals, I can see this being a moment for her.

Video of Isabeau's Liebestraum FS - This is a lovely program and her dress is very pretty. I think with a second triple triple (she did a triple/euler/double), cleaning up her spin errors and choreo, this will be a 140+ program for her. I'm sure coming in 3rd here will light a fire under her and we will see a better performance during the Grand Prix.

It's a shame there was a small audience for this competition. I would have loved to have gone but my skating travel budget is already spent on Boston Worlds. Westwood/Norwood is a 3.5 hour train ride on the Acela from NYC, so it's always tempting to go...
Isabeau is quite lucky with the scoring the opening combo both jumps aren't rotated, she then does a 2A that's not rotated (they give her five 2's for it ), then a 3Lo not rotated but three 3's and three 2's. The lutz should be getting a not clear edge at a minimum every time. She's really struggling. I'm not sure about those 8.5's she is receiving for PCS for a very underwhelming performance.

The men seem to have grabbed up all the interest in this event. 160 posts on the mens thread, only 52 on this one.

I’m not worried. Isabeau is just getting her new programs out there for the first time. I love both new costumes and look forward to seeing her at Skate America!
I saw the results, and thought she must have had a bad skate. That's not the case.

Sure, she needs more speed, and I didn't read the protocols to check rotations... but even so, this was a very credible performance this early in the season.

And while I wish she had gone out of the box with her music, I suspect this program will wear well as the season goes on. There are things to improve upon, but this is a very good base.

Her final spin was marked as invalid, but I’m not sure exactly why. I did notice a stumble/trip during her footwork sequence. Also, she did try to go outside her comfort zone last season with her SP music and she ditched it before Nationals. I liked the program, but then I’m not the one skating to it.
