2024 ISU International Adult Competition | Oberstdorf | May 12-17

A shimmy from Roberta WHEELER (GBR) when she was coming onto the ice,

Well, when you're wearing a tassle dress, you may as well make the most of it! ;)

Boys but she was enjoying herself out there!

She goes into the lead.

Was Birgit RICHTER (DEU) trying to portray Little Red Riding Hood? Well, she was wearing a red dress that had a red hood, so I suppose so.

Can't work out any connection between Little Red Riding Hood and "I Have Nothing" by Whitney Houston, but she skated well. And that is the main thing.

She goes into 9th position.

You know, there was a moment earlier on when the music started, and I thought it was "Nelly Fantasia". And I was relieved when it turned out to be something else.

But Karen CIPRIETTI (CAN) did not let me escape it completely today!

She was good. So good she went into the lead.

CaroLiza_fan

That was a really fun programme from Lilias DUTZ (DEU).

And what an appropriate song for her. "Lilly" by Pink Martini.

Never heard the song before, but It was a barrel of fun. I would love to see more people skate to it.

CaroLiza_fan

OK, so I called it wrong with Caterina PANETTO (ITA). I thought it was going to be a "Grease" programme. But it was "I Want To Break Free" by Queen.

Not a lot of speed, but not a lot of mistakes either (at least, not that I noticed!)

The tribe is really depleted now. Just 7 of them I think. But, Daniela VALLONI is still there.

She goes into 7th position.

CaroLiza_fan

I can't help myself. I have to say it.

We just got a Spaghetti Western from Eugenia Maurizia NATOLI (ITA)!

Not sure what film the music was from, but the music was defintely Ennio Morricone's handiwork.

Eugenia has a bigger tribe than the previous Italian. And Daniela VALLONI wasn't amongst them! :jaw:

She goes into 3rd position.

CaroLiza_fan

We finish the day with Claudia BINDER (CHE).

And she finishes in 6th position.

Podium Ceremonies are coming up, but I'm going to bail out now (I'll catch up first thing in the morning).

See you again tomorrow (hopefully!)

Ha! The skaters were too quick off the mark! They went out onto the ice as soon as the announcer started talking after the trumpets! After the North American announcer said her initial introduction, the local German announcer told them (in English) to get off the ice. But they didn't. So, the announcers continued with their speel.

It all got comical when they called the skaters onto the ice to start their 4 minute warm-up. Even though the skaters had already been on the ice for about half that length of time!

They say never work with children and animals. Well, maybe elderly figure skaters should be added to that! :p

CaroLiza_fan

What an embarrassing start to the day. After the skaters decided to have an extra-long warm-up, the CD player decided that it didn't want to play ball for the first skater, Joanne JOHNSON (CAN). She was standing there in position for ages waiting for her music.

But, she took it in good humour. She gave a wee understanding smile.

It was worth the wait. She was good.

@dorispulaski - thought you would appreciate this.

We just had a German Doris double-bill! Doris VEY, followed by Doris BREITBARTH.

I have no idea how to describe what Doris Vey was wearing! It was predominantly green, with an orange stripe down the front and multi-coloured edging. Oh, and pale green tights.

She was skating to a German song with an upbeat tempo, and it was such a fun programme. And it was obvious that she was having a lot of fun doing the programme.

She goes into the lead.

Doris Breitbarth, meanwhile, was dressed like a 50's housewife. She skated to a medley of the theme tune to "The Love Boat" by Jack Jones, "San Francisco" by Scott MacKenzie, and then back to "The Love Boat". And at the start and each transistion, a man with a German accent would make an announcement as if we were on a cruise ship.

It was different.

Unfortunately, I missed what position she went into.

Helena VÄÄNÄNEN (FIN) - I wonder if she is anything to Milania VÄÄNÄNEN... 🤔

Aha! Another skater I recognise from watching a previous Adult competition - Marcela NOVOTNA (CZE).

OK, so we also saw her quite a few times yesterday supporting the other Czech skaters when they were getting their scores.

She was skating to "I Like That Old Time Rock And Roll" by Bob Seger, and you could tell that she does! She was having the time of her life out there, rocking away!

She goes into the lead. And she and her team-mates are delighted.

CaroLiza_fan

Rosa Maria GERVASONI (ITA) WAS DRESSED AS SUPER MARIO!!!!! MOUSTACHE AND ALL!!!!!! :cheer:   :party2: :points: :hb:

No prizes for guessing what the music was. Although, it was a totally different edit to the iconic programme that Kim Lucine (MCO) had as his SP in the 2013-14 Season, and also used as an Exhibition programme. (Was that really a decade ago?! :jaw: )

The tribe has grown again after becoming depleted last night. Daniela VALLONI has got rid of her face paint, but it hasn't made much difference as her skin is quite pale anyway.

We now complete the Bronze Artistic Free Skate with the Bronze III ladies. 27 ladies, arranged into a group of 6; followed by three groups of 7. Who knows when there will be resurfacings! :rolleye:

Livestream for the Bronze III Ladies Artistic FS is now on air.

I don't know who this North American announcer is (it's not PJ Kwong, because she is en route to Shanghai at the moment), but she is making a lot of mistakes this morning. Not least there now when she announced the wrong competition as starting.

CaroLiza_fan

Ah, we finished the Bronze V competition with an Italian portraying an iconic character, and we start the Bronze III competition with another Italian portraying another iconic character.

From Super Mario to Cruella de Vil.

I liked that.

And there is Rosa Maria GERVASONI standing behind her for the results! The cap is gone, but she is still wearing the moustache!

CaroLiza_fan

@Diana Delafield - we just had a German lady, Juliane von GEISAU, wearing full Highland dress and skating to bagpipe music!!!!!

 :cheer:   :party2: :points: :hb:

There were vocals briefly, but they weren't there long enough to spoil it.

Your Scottish blood would have been bubbling with pride! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

She goes into 2nd position.

CaroLiza_fan

Awwww!!!! In the middle of a big crowd surrounding her, Maureen BENNIE (CAN) was holding a little girl (presumably her duaghter) when she was getting her scores.

And she was followed by somebody who was a bit confused. Christine GILES (USA) was doing a "Star Trek" programme. But, she was skating to the "Voyager" theme while wearing an engineering uniform from "The Original Series".

🖖

Nevertheless, she goes into a tie for 2nd position.

Didn't notice if this was the same crowd that was there for Maureen BENNIE (CAN), but there was a little girl at the edge of the camera shot, so I suspect it was.

CaroLiza_fan

Tatiana KULAGO (ITA) had the full tribe with her. And she was delighted when she went into 2nd position.

When the announcer was doing the introductions, she told us that there were THREE withdrawals from Group 2. And, right enough, there are only 4 skaters on the ice.

So, a short group coming up.

Hopefully the won't extend the resurfacing when it comes along, so that there is less of a chance of us running behind later in the day.

CaroLiza_fan

I'm speechless!

Only an American could pull off that type of programme. And Lorelei Dranae JONES (USA) pulled it off big time!

She was having the time of her life out there! So much energy.

She goes into 3rd position.
