2024 ISU International Adult Competition | Oberstdorf | May 12-17

Ah! I just remembered something else.

I can't remember who it was now, but somebody caught me out by wearing a dark pink dress, and then it turning out to be a "La La Land" programme.

Well, we just had another skater do the same. Ashley STEWART (CAN) was wearing a blue dress. But, she was using a song from the film that I had never seen being skated to before. So, I don't think the "yellow dress rule" applies.

We now have a Gold level triple-bill. It was supposed to start with the Gold II gentlemen doing their Artistic Free Skate. But, they have changed the order around. We are now starting with the Gold I ladies doing their "normal" Free Skate. 13 ladies, arranged into a group of 6; followed by a group of 7.

Livestream for the Gold I Ladies FS is now on air.

Here is the link for the livestream:

I lost track of where we were in this group. Because each of the PANNEPACKER sisters is followed by a skater whose name is Anglicised as Nadia! :drama:

  • Skater #2 Lauren PANNEPACKER (USA) is followed by skater #3 Nadja IHSEN (DEU)
  • Skater #5 Alexandra PANNEPACKER (USA) is followed by skater #6 Nadiia GRYSHKO (UKR)

That was Nadja IHSEN (DEU) that we just saw. Not Nadiia GRYSHKO (UKR).

Alexandra PANNEPACKER (USA) skated to "Toxic". And I am pretty sure I have heard the exact same edit of those two versions of the song already this week.

Big hug from Lauren when she came off the ice.

She goes into 2nd position.

Oh, I wish I could see the standings. Beause I can't remember who is leading. It would be cool if the sisters were 1-2.

CaroLiza_fan

Depleted group. The first two skaters, #7 Emilie FLECK (FRA) and #8 Aylin STEINER (DEU), have both withdrawn.

So #9 Rebekah FERRISS (CAN) ends up kicking the group off.

Didn't know the song at all, but it worked.

And she near did herself an injury coming off the ice. She had too much speed coming up to the boards, and didn't get stopped in time. Her blade hit the step and sent her flying into her companions. And it was a good distance that she went flying.

After the highlights, she held up a sign saying "Bingo". When she turned it around to a particular direction, there was a big cheer. So, there must be a story behind it that somebody in the audience understands but we don't.

She goes into 7th position.

I have to laugh when the announcers say that we will be back in (x) Oberstdorf minutes.

A minute is the same length no matter where you are!

I think they are overthinking things and thinking things are more complicatee than they are because they know people in different time-zones are watching.

(That's ironic. Me of all people complaining about people over-thinking things! )

We continue our Gold level triple-bill by moving from the Gold I ladies to the Gold II ladies. 13 ladies, arranged into a group of 6; followed by a group of 7. 13 ladies, arranged into a group of 6; followed by a group of 7.

Elena BELOUSOVA (ESP)

Seeing that surname in the entry list for a skating competition makes me smile.

I wonder if she is related to Ludmila in some way. It would be cool if she was a great-niece or something.

Now that I see her, I am putting it on record. I don't care what the rules say, there is no way that this girl is at least 28. I doubt if she has even reached 21! :drama:

She was good, though. Such a pity she tripped over her feet and fell.

She goes into 3rd postion.

CaroLiza_fan

Ah. Somebody who I have come across before. Lulu ALEXANDRA (GBR).

How did I miss her name when going through the entry lists?! :drama:

Bruno Mars medley: "Uptown Funk", followed by "Talking To The Moon", then back to "Uptown Funk".

She was wearing a fluorescent pink top with black belt and zebra print skirt. Yes, it was as wild as it sounds!

Fun programme full of energy.

She goes into 3rd position.

CaroLiza_fan

That's a coincidence. Anastasia BOYKO (CHE) is wearing a dress very similar to one of the Kevin van der Perren (BEL) costumes that was being discussed in the Awards thread. (The white and gold one).

But, she wasn't skating to "Lawrence Of Arabia". She was skating to "Euphoria" by Loreen.

I lost count of the number of times she nearly fell. She did succeed in falling, but just the once.

But, she doesn't seem to be bothered by it at all. She is happy!

She goes into 5th position.

Maybe things will go better for her team-mate on next.

CaroLiza_fan

Fernanda ROSSETTI (CHE) was wearing a beautiful royal blue dress.

She started with the normal version of "Believer" by Imagine Dragons, but then it changed to a magical version, and then into something else completely different that I did not recognise.

Yep, that skate went better than the one for her team-mate before her.

She goes into 4th position.

Right, the times aren't working out as well for me today. I'm going to be leaving for food during a group rather than between groups.

I might see one or two skaters in this group, but not any more than that.

So, all the best to those that I miss.

CaroLiza_fan

If this is not the same dress that Joanne JOHNSON (CAN) wore for her Artistic FS, it is mighty similar!

Thankfully, she did not have the same music issues today.

Everything about that was beautiful.

She goes into 2nd position.

CaroLiza_fan
I used to skate with a Joanne Johnson, a school friend, before I went into pairs and she stayed in singles. What age group is this JJ in? Common enough name, I suppose, and the one I knew changed it when she got married, but she could be still using her original name for skating.

Sorry for not replying sooner. I was away in the kitchen eating my chicken and spuds. But, I'm back now in time for the Dancers.

She was in Bronze V which, according to the rules I read, is for skaters aged 72 and over.

So, unless your friend was older than you, I doubt if it is her.

Ah. The Gold II Men's Artistic Free skate has disappeared. We are now leaving Singles skating to start into the Ice Dance competitions. And the rest of the day is all Pattern Dances. And they are doing it the way I like - all the PD1's, followed by all the PD2's.

First up are the Bronze level Ice Dancers. 7 partnerships, arranged into a group of 3 partnerships; followed by a group of 4 partnerships.

Livestream for the Bronze Pattern Dance 1 is now on air.

Not that much older! Thanks, I knew it was unlikely it was the JJ I knew, but just seeing the name brought back memories of being on neighbouring patches in patch sessions :)

You never know with these things. Sometimes the familiar name does turn out to be the person you know. I was reading an article in the Cyprus Mail a few weeks ago about a study into the role of castles in Ireland and sites in Greece in regional regeneration. And it mentioned an archaeology lecturer from a Uni in Cork. And I thought "I wonder if that is the same girl that was in my classes at Uni in Belfast". And it turned out it was!

It's always worth investigating.

After winning the Adult Pairs Artistic Free Skate earlier today, the Graysons (AUS) were just back on doing the first of their two Pattern Dances, which is the second of the three programmes they will be doing today.

They went into 3rd position, with two partnerships still to go.

Next up doing their Pattern Dance 1 programmes are a group of 4 Silver level Ice Dance partnerships.

Livestream for the Silver Pattern Dance 1 is now on air.
