Which country is it?I see my country has one entry for the ladies event
Israel. I heard we did well in juniors ice dance, had a silver medal and congratulations for the pair who did it was all over our domestic skating/sports news. Hopefully our participant for the ladies events has a great skate!Which country is it?
The best of luck for Mariia Seniuk!Israel. I heard we did well in juniors ice dance, had a silver medal and congratulations for the pair who did it was all over our domestic skating/sports news. Hopefully our participant for the ladies events has a great skate!![]()
Thank you so muchThe best of luck for Mariia Seniuk!
Just days ago, I finally watched Junior Worlds Women Free Skate and noticed an aspiring junior skater Sophia Shifrin who represented Israel. With her, I think Women category has also good future prospects for your country.
Thank you so much
I know Israel as a skating federation is not even close to be amongst favorites for any elite world skating competition, but I do know skaters are working very hard and practicing their best to do well and have a great skate. YES, Sophia Shifrin works hard, does her best, again, perhaps not amongst the favorites and of course I am very biased, I think she is lovely and love watching her skate, looking forward to a great career for her.
We're not known for having produced great skaters (we did and do produce great rhytmic gymnasts and martial arts athletes) but lately I am seeing more and more positive results in skating competitions and being so far away, training figure skating here in Japan, I can say I can't help being very happy![]()
No, I didn't know! Nice to meet youAs you may know, I have adopted a family of Israeli skaters (Liza and Katya Gervits, and their Mum, Lubov Yanpolsky), and so have started keeping an eye on the domestic competitions in Israel.
The third round of the Cup Of Israel was being held at the same time as Junior Worlds, and I spotted that a Maria Shifrin was 2nd in the Cubs competition. My initial thought was that she might be Sophia's sister, but they are listed for clubs in different places (Maria for a club in Kfar Saba, and Sophia for a club in Holon). So, do you know if they are related in some way?
No, I didn't know!
Nice to meet youI'm not sure I understand. You adopted these kids but you mention the mother... so she also lives with you? Sorry!
Interesting. I just researched in Hebrew, in google, and found this
https://figureskating.oneice.co.il/כמה-נחת-כמה-תוצאות-היום-הראשון-באליפו/ (sorry, it's in Hebrew and it's not pasting here with the Hebrew characters), here it shows she finished 4th place in Cubs, result of 2022
Shifrin is not such uncommon family name. I have no idea if they are from the same immediate family. Israel not a big country with so many people, we joke we are just one big family. Not uncommon to find someone with an exact same family name as yours and you didn't know this person, but you immediately gain another relative
It's happened with me too, I say my last name, someone says "ahh you'related to the "xxxx" who run the "xxxx" shop om "xxxx" city?", you say no, but then I go there and they're my new relatives. Or if you're adult, then maybe they say to you "ahhh, I went to the army with a "xxx" in unit "xx", do you know him/her?" There's always someone who went to the army together with someone with your same family name.
I can message someone at home and ask to investigate if they're sisters, cousins or just someone with the same family name!

It would be very sad indeed. However, it rarely happens that home country comes away with no medals. So let's hope for the best!Hate for Worlds to be in Canada and have us come away with no medals.
Not to jinx them or anything, but I feel pretty certain that Stellato/Deschamps will pull out all the stops and end up on the podium, at least. Naturally Gilles/Poirier will also be in the hunt.It would be very sad indeed. However, it rarely happens that home country comes away with no medals. So let's hope for the best!
Interesting question G/P pretty much have a guaranteed podium with a hard time to win reguardless of how well they skate (due to dance politics). S/D have a decent shot to win if they skate at their best, but just one mistake can drop them off the podium. Not to jinx them or anything, but I feel pretty certain that Stellato/Deschamps will pull out all the stops and end up on the podium, at least. Actually, that’s an interesting question—as to S/D and G/P, which team does everyone think will have the higher placement in their event? And out of Chiu, Sadovsky, and Schizas, who does everyone think will have the highest placement?
Saturdays practice is at the Bell Centre. It's going to take some dedication to get oneself to the practices. If only I could be two places at once! LOL. I mainly want to see the men's practices, but I wouldn't mind seeing some others too. So I checked the men's schedule. Looks like once we get to Weds., all practices are at the alternate rink. Makes sense.

I don't think anyone can beat Chock and Bates. They are well liked, experienced, and have Marie France behind them. If or when Pc return will them fall to no.2 at IAMI am waiting for it like hell.
I've been competing in another winter sport myself, volunteered at dozens of sport events, so to me any championship is a special time. But especially, when it comes to figure skating - the sport I love more than anything else.
Frankly, I am bit jealous of those who live in Montréal^^ My own domestic competition will happen only in 2027 when half of my favorites will probably retire. And another half lives on other continents, so there will be no way I am gonna see them compete in my home city that year. But that's life
This year, I am looking forward to seeing... everyone. Really, I think this year there are so many intersting skaters and programs in all disciplines that I will be enjoying watching it from the very first group. I don't even have a wish list for podiums - may the best one win.
P.S.: but we're all humans, so I will be still a bit disappointed if Malinin wins over Uno and Kagiyama or if Guignard/Fabbri make it over Chock/Bates and Gilles/Poirier.
