2025-26 Programs By Discipline

From the recent GS article about him:

Shunsuke Nakamura JPN
SP: "Yesterday" by The Beatles, performed by Babyface, Chloe Flower, and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra; choreo by Misha Ge
FS: The Last Samurai soundtrack by Hans Zimmer; choreo by Kana Muramoto

Uhh, two Yesterday SPs among the Japanese men this season :palmf: (because Sota is recycling his old program)

Quite a number of warhorses, and a grateful shoutout to all skaters who have decided not to torment fans' ears with them. Kudos to Tatsuya, that's a pleasant surprise after the music choices of the previous seasons.

I expected the number or warhorses would increase because it's the Olympic season and few are bold enough to pick something original, sadly (and this is on the judges). But knowing why skaters do so doesn't make the actual listening any more enjoyable. Incidentally, I watched the Paris Air Show footage last week, and it's pretty sad that the planes' programs/routines/numbers/whatever it's called, were accompanied by less overplayed and better suited music than many skaters I see in this thread (though there was a Blue Danube offender also, lol)

Mai's choices give me retirement vibes... her friend Kaori is retiring next season, so it would make sense. Has Mai mentioned retirement?

Nikolaj Memola ITA
SP: Tosca
FS: Scheherazade

Both choreographed by Barbara Fusar-Poli

Spousal Unit learned Funiculì Funuculà as a boy in one of his earlier Italian lessons in Naples. (he is not Italian, that's why he was taking lessons ;) ) It is a Neapolitan tramway, after all.

He told me he might even watch figure skating if this were a program. But they need the full song. And Neapolitan dialect.

tell him that one of your skaters (Jimmy Mah? Tomoki Hiwatashi? i don't remember well) skated to a taranta, it wasn't in neapolitan but in Puglia dialect, still close enough :ROFLMAO: all debts must be paid ;)

Semi-related to the conversation: When my wife and I were first married, we accepted an invite from some Italian American friends to a Knights of Columbus dinner/dance. Since then, I've always wished I had some identifiable Italian floating around in the bloodstream, because I've never had more fun in my life. The music was traditional and upbeat, and everybody danced every song whether they had any idea what they were doing or not.

Yuma Kagiyama JPN
SP: "I Wish" cover by Marcin and Hayato Sumino (original by Stevie Wonder), choreo by Lori Nichol

I gave it a listen, it could be a fun program - https://youtu.be/bXZGSe5oZKs

I'm so glad you attached the link, I was ready to be old and cranky and say just what is wrong with the one and only Stevie Wonder that "I Wish" needs to be covered?

But this jazz inflected instrumental version? I like.(y) Looking forward to what Yuma does with it.
