Rinka Watanabe JPN

FP: Piano Concerto No. 3 / No. 2 (Rachmaninoff), choreo by Lori Nichol

Rinka/Kana, Rinka/Lori - I'm sat!
Someone who was at the camp wrote that Rinka's Seven Nation Army is a cover with female vocals (could be the same that Marin used). I got excited about nothing. Nooo. Rinka, why? Why not use the original one which is the best by far? Rinka definitely has a vibe and enough energy that could pull Jack White rather than a soft, cutesy pop cover.

I heard it's this one below, featuring Haley Reinhart by Postmodern Jukebox, so it's likely the same one as what Marin used before.
I understand you like the original, but I don't hate this, either, and I wouldn't be surprised if Kana suggested it or if she had it on her playlist to pick from. Or rather, I would be more surprised if Rinka knew the original instead. Is it soft and cutesy for you?

Edited to add:
Here is Rinka's interview
from the part where it isn't paywalled
ショートの方は新しい自分というか、新しいニュアンス、テイストのものを、村元哉中さんだったり、林(祐輔)先生に選んでいただいて、この曲になりました
For the short program, I wanted something that would reveal a new side of myself—a fresh nuance or style—so I had Kana Muramoto and Coach Yusuke Hayashi help me select the music, and we ended up with this piece.

I don't like it, I love Marin but I hated this cover while she skated to it. I don't like neither the vocals nor the arrangement. It is kind of neutered of the rebellious energy of the original. I wish some girls had the guts to choose the rough rock version and I thought Rinka may be the one. Just my opinion, if you like it, good for you :)

I don't know, but the original reminds many of us of soccer a bit too much, even if it wasn't their intention. Do young people have any chance to listen to the alternative rock or even old rock revivals nowadays? Either way, I'm afraid young skaters don't really try to find music themselves but often ask for suggestions from choreographers or coaches. (And quite often those who pick one themselves end up picking a warhorse.)

rockers are more than you think and they all listen to old glories because the modern offer is...lacking (sadly)
